Update: Mark Millar Addresses Superman Rumors
September 20, 2009
Mark Millar (Wanted, upcoming Kick-Ass) was recently quoted by MTV as saying that Warner Bros./DC Entertainment couldn't afford him now for his take on Superman.
"I don't think they could afford me now," MTV quoted Millar. "I'll stick with Marvel." The site also said that Millar pitched his idea for new Superman movies.
Millar posted on his official website that he probably didn't say either, and if he said anything about the studio being able to afford him, it would have been a joke. Here's his post:
Two quick things:
1/ I don't think I said they couldn't afford me now. If I did I was joking because writing Superman would be a massive payday so if I said that I was obviously laughing at the time. It's possible though as I like being glib.
2/ Nobody has ever seen my Superman idea besides Matthew. We never pitched. I've never done a pitch in my life (it's demeaning) so all this stuff about people hating my Superman ideas, etc, is just bullsh*t. Nobody's seen it. I don't write or give ideas away for free and simply wouldn't. I mentioned a big epic idea to Empire in a Wanted interview which was a couple of lines long, but no story stuff at all. So the stuff about me pitching is nonsense. I don't and will never pitch. That's why I like working in comics.
You can read what Millar said last October about his idea here.
UPDATE: You can now watch a clip from MTV's interview with Millar here in which he does in fact say the above quotes... but he's obviously joking.

"So all this stuff about people hating my Superman ideas, etc, is just bull****. Nobody's seen it."
So outside of you blabbing on and on about your Superman movie idea to anyone who'd stick a microphone in your face to the point where anyone who'd been following you for any length of time could recite the plot of the trilogy by heart, yeah, no one has heard anything about your Superman movie.
Mark Millar reminds us all once again that he's one of the biggest self-congratulatory douchebags in the comics industry.

why are we talking about the joker on this thread? i'm a huge dark knight fan, but not everything leads back to it.

Superman Returns was pure garbage!

I would love to see an 8 hour epic 3-movie, as he proposed, but not one that ends with the end of the world and the end of superman. Superman is about hope.

seeing as how marvel is consistantly putting out ****ty films, while DC seems to be taking things more serious, i think millar should reconsider things.

"That's why I like working in comics."
What a joke.

If Superman Returns had instead been Superman Begins, and they'd Eliminated the 'deadbeat dad' plot, it would've been a much better movie, albeit a remake of lex's parts in supermans one and two. Regardless of the recycling, had they done that, we'd already be seeing Superman two, if not already, then next summer, and Green Lantern would've been cast as another serious film, instead of the 'light family romp' it's going to be.

i don't think we'll see another superman movie for at least another 6 years or so. look how long it even took WB/DC to get superman returns off the ground after superman 4

So.... pitching is 'below' mark millar.... shows how he treats the people working under him... just from that statement I don't like him.
get your head out of your a$$. Loser... people like that should have to work manual labor to understand what's really hard... moving heavy equipment all day or looking at video and saying 'i like tha/i don't like that' and having someone edit it in the comfort of a chair and air conditioning.
GET SOMEONE ELSE. GET AN UNKNOWN who actually cares about the effin character.. not about his 'payday'

"seeing as how marvel is consistantly putting out ****ty films, while DC seems to be taking things more serious, i think millar should reconsider things."
Yes, taking things more seriously and leaving ZERO fun for everything else. DC has boring **** films like Dark Knight and Begins. I really hope Green Lantern and Lobo prove to be good as the Batman franchise has already lost as far as being fun, entertaining and enjoyable is concerned.
Marvel puts out better movies and everyone knows it. Sure, Daredevil gets quite a bit of hate but it's sure as hell more enjoyable than anything WB has put out lately. So is Punisher War Zone, and I can't believe people hated that film because it was TRUE TO THE COMICS in every way, shape and form. I guess people just naturally like crap...
Mark Millar isn't even all that. Ultimates was garbage, his Hulk was lame, I think he needs some lessons or something. DC can't afford him because they don't want him. And if they do, if they truly do, I feel bad for them.
Posted by: mwhite13 on September 20, 2009 at 04:40:56
do we really want him doing a superman movie? he kinda took the wanted story and changed it up completely. do we really want a superman without powers? cause the wanted movie was garbage. just one comic fan's opinion!

Millar comes across as being a bit full-of-himself, but in that industry you do need to promote yourself.
No one else will.
Even though I didn't enjoy his run on Fantastic Four, I'd be happy to see his take on a Superman movie.
As for not pitching? Come on man, pitch already.

Millar would do Supes as a huge ****** just like his Ultimate Cap. Millar sucks and I have long ago boycotted anything he is attached to. Overpaid hack.

@ jason B
Both Dc and Marvel have made bad and good films.
