July 24, 2009
We received the following from The CW this morning:
Calling all “Smallville” fans! Series star and co-executive producer Tom Welling will make his first-ever appearance at the world’s greatest pop culture convention, Comic-Con International: San Diego, this Sunday, July 26.
Welling will join showrunners Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson, as well as fellow cast members Allison Mack, Erica Durance, Cassidy Freeman, Justin Hartley and new series star Callum Blue at the show’s panel session on Sunday at 10:30-11:30 a.m. in Room 6BCF of the San Diego Convention Center.
This will mark the first time in the show’s history that the entire current cast will be assembled for Comic-Con.
The session will feature an exclusive sneak peek at clips from the upcoming ninth season of the show and a Q&A with fans about what lies ahead on “Smallville.” Award-winning film, television, comic book writer and “Smallville” alum Jeph Loeb (”Heroes”) will once again moderate the panel.
“Smallville” moves to Friday nights this fall, airing at 8/7c on The CW, and premiering September 25.
In advance of the season premiere, Warner Home Video will release “Smallville: The Complete Eighth Season” on Blu-RayTM and DVD on August 25.

According to AICN, the Superman costume arrives on the show this year. Haven't watched this show in ages, but I'll tune in for that.

If it does, I hope it's nothing like the comic book suit.

Not sure if we can make the panel on Sunday, but we'll try.

AWESOME! Maybe him and Justin Hartley can pose together in their respective outfits.
But I think it's gonna be a Red-Blue Blur costume and not in his actual Superman wardrobe.
Now I wish I could be there. It'd be awesome to go to.

I never liked this show, but I think if WB needs a Superman film fast before they lose rights to the character, they should just use Welling in the lead and get a move on. He's earned a go at the film series after eight seasons.

This smallville is getting bigville now.
I'm afraid is a little too late for Tom Welling to put on the tights by now. They have drag it too long & too far.
I mean he's already grown up, so everyone would have recognize him as superman if he ever don the big S.
Worst still he didnt even wear glasses yet. I'm getting bored & tired with these series.

@ BEN HUR:
WB owns DC Comics, so I doubt very much they will loose the rights to Superman any time soon. And like we all know, DC Comics owns Superman.

WB may own DC comics, but the rights to the Superman character will revert to the Shuster and Siegel estates in 2012. Which means WB/DC could lose Superman if they don't get a movie into theatres in the next two years.

@deacon0N
in the comic books and film if memory serves, clark kent goes to the fortress of solitude at the age of eighteen to start his training and when he returns as SUPERMAN he's in his thirties. now i dont know about you but 15 years out of the picture you can change alot and people wont recognize you. all i want from this season is more jor'el, the "S" shield and john williams legendary score in an episode to mark clark kents rise to SUPERMAN!
DELTA FTW

i had a beer with justin hartley 3 weeks ago!! cool guy, he said that tom welling did sign on for 09-10 but they only worked on this next season, because the show is moving to the friday (graveyard) its going to need extra attention from us fans to keep the ratings up, tivo and dvr don't count apparently, so if it does bad this year its out...

the COPYRIGHT will revert to the family of the creators. TRADEMARK rights are something else entirely. Without the Trademark, the Superman property is pretty much useless to market.

If Welling isn't Superman in the next film, I WILL NOT pay to see it. Nuff Said.
"Yo!"

I have been a fan of Smallville for years and I'm not a fan of Superman. I like the show and the cast I really hope the next Superman movie is a Smallville movie because Tom is just the right man for the job. Can't wait to see the new season Up, Up, and AWAY!!!

Meh, who cares? This show is so tainted with all those silly and dumb storylines. SuperLana? LOL
And Tom Welling Can't act. He is a money actor. He doesn't and never gave a damn about Superman.

Sam Worthington or Tom Welling as the next Superman.
Brandon...Nice try my friend.
Posted by: opp on July 24, 2009 at 16:58:46
it suppose to be a prototype superman suit

It only took him, what, 9 years to show up at Comic Con since they first announced the show? ;) Makes me think something big is on the horizon. WB needs to get their asses in gear on the next Superman movie since the rights revert back to the Shuster and Siegel families in 3 years. Welling and Rosenbaum would be fantastic on the big screen in finally fully realized versions of the characters they've been playing for almost a decade! Get Jeph Loeb crackin' on the script!

Why do some peeps want to see smallville make it to film? This show is a great watch but has butchered the Superman story so much it would not translate at all. SuperLana, Lex BFF, that magic stones story (vomit).
This show needs to end well, but please WB make a Supes film with Worthington as supes, keep spacey, add Rose Byrne as Lois and keep Singer away! Maybe Bay? Joke

It would be nice to see him at least fly , i dont think the suit will appear ,they have dragged on series to long. Hell its like everyone knows who he is.

wb definitely needs to suit him up for the next superman movie!
Posted by: Lana2k9 on July 24, 2009 at 18:20:19
Interesting. Why, after 8 years, does the series' leading man suddenly decide to attend a Con? I'm willing to bet that there was an incentive (oh, say, giving TW a co-executive producer credit) to get him to finally face his fans - and detractors.

TOM WELLING for the Next SUPERMAN film !
Come On people lets get it right !

Tom Welling shouldnt be the next Superman let him stay with Smallville tv series
WB needs to find someone else to star as Superman in the reboot not Tom Welling.
