Mark Millar (Wanted) talked to G4 about his proposed Superman movie project which has a mysterious American director attached. They pitched the idea to Warner Bros. Pictures and hope to get word over the next few weeks. If the studio decides to go with their version, they'd like to be shooting by next summer:
"I've had this plan for like 10 years for a big three-picture Superman thing, like a Lord of the Rings epic, starting over from scratch again with a seven-hour Superman story. One to be released each year." Millar said.

batman is way better than supes, but maybe this will open the door for a batman/superman movie

Interesting concept, at least they'll have the same people playing each character. Which means Lex Luthor. Here's hoping for Brainiac.

Who cares who does it, as long as its not Bryan Singer.
Stupid piano boy!

That would be awesome. You know he'd be all about having him fight robots and aliens and all sorts of crap. You'd think with a $250 million budget, in Returns he could've thrown a punch at something.

batman did so weel beacuse they went back to his dark roots. you need to cature what made superman popular to make a movie about him poplular. Truth, Justice and the American way. he is the reverse of batman

I would prefer a stand alone story with few details carried over each film from the previous one for continuity.

A guy who writes comics and is a fan of Superman. We might actually get a 21st century Superman from people who actually know who Superman is.

Oh god we'll have to sit through a 2 hour origin story again, and wait until the second for anything good.. "starting from scratch", no action superhero movie, didn't we just have one of those.
Keep Brandon Routh and move on. A new story doesn't mean it has to include the story from Superman Returns, it can stand alone, moving forward.Action please.

Mark Millar's already disliked by a lot of people because of him visibly trying to oust an existing director and cast through his propaganda. Fair play, he wants the gig and he's doing what he can to get it, even if it involves underhand tactics. Lets hope if he gets the gig he doesn't screw it up and end up with hated by everyone in the geek community.

I didn't even bother watching the video. Superman s ucks. He'll never be able to be transfered to film in a believable way ever again. And now people are all tlaking about making dark movies about comic book characters, just because it works for Batman. It works for him, because he is dark, started out dark, and is at his best in dark stories/settings.
As much as I hate to admit it, if you are going to make a movie about truth, justice, and the american way, it'd be more believable to make a Captain America movie, but have it set during WW2. Think about the way the first Hellboy movie started out. I think that would be sick. Then have him forzen, and thawed out in the present, for the current war on terror. Captian America should be played by Dennis Quaid, and Superman should be played by nobody.

eckoman, Batman just has a superior intellect and deductive reasoning skills. Superman has powers beyond imagination. Your statment is flawed.
Here's hoping Mark Millar gets a green light, we need something that erases Superman Returns and Bryan Singer completely.

These next generation (kids) of writers for comic book movies are screwing things up royally. Until we have writers and director's together who stay true to the comic book and don't let the studios make changes, there will never be an outstanding comic book based movie.

Cool, can't wait!!!
Here we come Supes!

Millar seems pretty jazed over the prospects. I would like them to build to Darkseid in 2 and 3. What better way to lead into Justice League then having Darkseid invade earth?!?! As long as they stay true to the story and the characters. Batman works dark because he is a dark character. Superman is the bright goody boy, they can keep him out of the dark side, do the movie(s) right and still sell hundreds of millions of dollars worth of tickets and DVDs.
DO IT RIGHT WB, don't F this up!!!

I love the idea of a 3 part 7 hour Superman story covered over 3 flicks!
If Warners is going the reboot route anyway, they should let Millar, his mystery director, and a KILLER cast and crew do up this idea. Sounds ambitious and interesting. Exactly what Superman needs to push forward with a new big-screen franchise. Millar is a more than capable writer and has a knack for widescreen style action and story (with substance). Just look at Ultimates and Ultimates 2 with Bryan Hitch. Now if they could just get Hitch to do the storyboards for the flick...
...WOW!!!
---Later!

I wonder how the guys at DC feel about letting a Currantly Marvel Exclusive Writer such as Millar take part in a DC Film....
Ya see Fanboys, The Professionals don't take sides, why should you?
Posted by: j on September 2, 2008 at 12:15:06
That would amazing, I am still on the fence on a reboot but if Millar wrote it then I would be totally excited. I think WB should do it with Millar for sure, I wonder what director he has been talking with. It would be cool if they did it like LOTR.

A 3 movie story arc? Could be really good, but a rather risky proposition for WB following Superman Returns. Here's the trilogy I want. First movie begins by an earth invasion by Darkseid. End the film with superman following Darkseid back to Apocolypse. Second film takes place with Suped defeating Darkseid's army on his home turf and returning to Earth to find Metropolis in chaos from an onslaught by Doomsday. Third film is the death and return of superman. End defeating Doomsday.

AWESOME IDEA! WB LET MILLAR DO IT! I am on the fence about a reboot but if WB announces Millar will be writing it and they will do back to back movies then I am totally on board!
Posted by: j on September 2, 2008 at 12:20:33
ALSO USE BRANIAC!!!!

I think this is probably the way to go...reboot the whole story line. I also think Millar could be the right guy for the job - unless of course they can get Time Sale and Geoff Loeb to consult on the movie. The danger is we all know the Superman origin story so well, anyone will have a hard time making us enjoy sitting through it again. Of course, the kids would be more open to an origin film and the old guys like me would be willing to sit through it if the follow-on films looked promising. This could work well if they knock out the origin and Lex Luthor in the first film and then get on to the cooler bad guys (Darkseid would be awesome). They'll completely blow it if the rehash the same "bad-guy-gets-some-kryptonite" storyline that they milked in three of the five preceding films. Make it fun, fill it with action, and throw Superman and all his pure Super Boy Scout persona against some new-to-film bad guys.

PHX Batman,
I would never have thought of Dennis Quaid for Captain America.....but I like that idea. I could see him making it work especially if they stayed with the WWII setting.

is millar the one who created the lord of the rings ..if not who was it or are they going with that kind of style???
