Where is Superman Headed?
Source:Variety
August 19, 2008

Variety's Anne Thompson reports that Superman: Man of Steel is in a holding pattern at Warner Bros. Pictures as the studio figures out what to do next. Here's a clip:

They too believe that the last movie didn't break the mold and wound up in some kind of middle limbo. Today I was told that it is a priority at the studio to find the right direction and if Bryan Singer is willing to do that, fine, but if he gets in the way, he may not stay on the project. There are no writers working on a Superman script now. The studio wants to figure it out. "It might be better to start from scratch," one exec admitted.

What do you think? Should they continue the story from Superman Returns or completely start over?

KEEP IT GOING

ps.. people saying first should be castrated

Posted by: funksinger.com on August 19, 2008 at 12:00:35

why doesn't singer just go back to screwing up x-men movies? that's what he's good at

Posted by: Anton Ego on August 19, 2008 at 12:00:45

that is to say, start over. singer missed the mark with SR. better to go with a clean slate.

Start the hell over. Superman Returns was a waste.

I'm anxious to see what Mark Millar has up his sleeve.

I think that supes return was good, i liked it very much. I hated the fact that they gave him a kid, and should stay closer to the comics. but i would love to see them start from scratch and give us a new Superman movie to love, like we all love the dark knight and batman begins

Hmmm. looks like a reboot will happen. kool.
Maybe now we'll get a proper Superman film with a Lex who doesnt have a fetish with real estate, and a supervillain that can stand toe to toe with Supes.

Superman Begins! cmon!

Posted by: Nightwing27 on August 19, 2008 at 12:05:13

Let Mark Millar write it and make it a reboot done write! And please NO CAMPY HOMAGES TO ANYTHING PREVIOUSLY DONE. Camp is the worst thing to happen to superheroes

Posted by: Nightwing27 on August 19, 2008 at 12:05:52

Sorry reboot done right

Posted by: Tim on August 19, 2008 at 12:06:00

Keep Routh, start over - without the grossly thin Bosworth and the travesty of Superboy.

Posted by: Db on August 19, 2008 at 12:06:03

Superman Returns was horrible.

Start over, but do it right. Singer screwed up the X-men, and now Superman. Why not have Singer direct Batman and give him the trifecta.

Start over, but make it believable, none of this bullet in the eye cr@p. That's as lame as the bad guys shooting all their bullets then throwing the gun at him.

Kick brian singer out of there, pick up mark millars idea and make a superman movie worthy of the character!!! if batman can do it then so can the man of steel!!

Posted by: UNTITLD on August 19, 2008 at 12:07:00

WHY PASS UP THE OPERTUNITY TO SEE WHERE THE STORY WAS HEADED FROM SUPERMAN RETURNS? I THOUGHT THAT THE IDEAS THAT SINGER EXPRESSED FOR THE UPCOMING FLICK WERE VERY INTERESTING. SOME GREAT LOOSE ENDS THAT NEED TO BE FINISHED OFF. BIZARRO? COULD THE BLOOD THAT SUPERMAN SPILLED ON THE GROUND THAT WAS BEING FORMED FROM THE CRYSTALS GIVE BIRTH TO THIS CHARACTER? IF THEY LET SINGER GO FROM THIS, YOU WILL END UP WITH A LESSER MOVIE LIKE WHAT HAPPENED WITH X-MEN 3. FOX STUDIOS SHOULD HAVE WAITED FOR SINGER TO FINISH SUPERMAN AND THEN MAYBE THAT MOVIE WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN SO DISAPPOINTING.

Bryan Singer filmed one of the most memorable superhero movies ever, but it was not a Superman movie. It was X-2. And it's a real shame that he left the mutant franchise to less talented hands to create a sub-par Superman movie. It seems he was too much in awe with the character and the Richard Donner legacy to create something special and new, and that's too bad, because the cast was fine.

i have a GREAT idea: let singer direct a Flash movie. jack black can star. and the villain can be mr. magoo. i'd buy that for a dollar!

Posted by: k18 on August 19, 2008 at 12:09:44

start from scratch!!!

Posted by: buzme on August 19, 2008 at 12:10:57

superman begin first , the man of steel next !

Posted by: jeremy crawford on August 19, 2008 at 12:11:25

i don't want a reboot i mean if they did that then who ever get's to direct might recast superman and get rid of brandon i want them to stay on track to a sequel and keep bryn singer and brandon routh i thought superman returns was a great superman film and i love to see what bryan does in the sequel.

Posted by: noirman82 on August 19, 2008 at 12:11:54

What did Singer do to screw up X-Men? As I remember, X-Men revatlized the modern comic-book movie, and X2 is one of the best comic films ever made. Maybe SR made people forget that.

Posted by: KisHay on August 19, 2008 at 12:12:20

Start over!!

Posted by: superboobs on August 19, 2008 at 12:13:12

they should never make another superman movie again. boring character with boring villians.

Posted by: Tony on August 19, 2008 at 12:13:21

Keep the same storyline and Routh from 'Superman Returns' but do something with 'Superboy' and recast Lois.

Give Lex a break from the movies, and bring in a villian that can go toe to toe with Supes in a fight, i.e. DOOMSDASY.

Posted by: Victory on August 19, 2008 at 12:14:39

If Warner wants a great Superman movie they should adapt The Darkseid storyarc from Bruce Timm's and Paul Dini's Superman: The Animated Series, which is heavily based on the work that Jack Kirby did for the Jimmy Olsen comic book and his own New Gods saga.
