Millar Has Director & Producer for Superman Revamp?
Source:Superhero Hype!
July 2, 2008
Back in October of 2007, Mark Millar (Wanted) said he was going to pitch Warner Bros. Pictures his vision of the "Superman" franchise. Now, just a few days ago, he told the Daily Record he is taking it a step further:
But Mark's big dream is making a Superman movie.
He said: "Since I was a kid I've always wanted to reinvent Superman for the 21st century.
"I've been planning this my entire life. I've got my director and producer set up, and it'll be 2011. This is how far ahead you have to think.
"The Superman brand is toxic after that last movie lost $200 million, but in 2011 we're hoping to restart it.
"Sadly I can't say who the director is, but we may make it official by Christmas.
"But fingers crossed it could work out, that would be my lifetime's dream."
Millar later clarified on his message boards:
That Superman news is interesting, isn't it? In the interests of clarity (because I'm sure this will be picked up somewhere) a very well known American action director heard about my love of Superman, approached my and asked me to team up with he and his producer to make a pitch for this. We've been talking for several weeks now and, if this is going to happen, we'll know by Christmas. He has huge pull at WB so fingers crossed. But this is nothing more than a huge US name pulling me into his fold and making me part of a package."
Back in March, Bryan Singer said he was still developing the sequel and in April, Legendary Pictures' Thomas Tull described a sequel in which we'd see "Superman as more of an angry god." We'll have to wait and see how this all turns out.

I think Singer should get one more chance. Yea he screwed up the first, but lets see if he can pull a X2 like type of sequel with superman 2. More more action!

As long as Routh returns, I don't care who directs it.

Mark Millar doing a Superman movie is good news indeed, hope they still get Routh for the revamp.

people who call out first must not win at anything in life...not video games, board games etc..they sit and keep track of stories so they can just try and get that feeling of saying first..yay I WON!!!!
ok done with that..
a new direction for superman is what we need, so much to see beyond lex luthor!! NO bastards kids needed..it just reminds me i'm a bastard.

Just get that Thomas Tull freak out of the mix with his "Superman as an Angry God" nonsense and they might be on to something.
And you have to be cautious of someone saying "Reinvent for the 21st Century" because that usually means "Change it beyond recognition" in Hollywood.

I really want to see Bryan Singer get to make a sequel... I liked Superman Returns, Singer did a good job trying to resurrect a hero that took almost twenty years to bring back to the big screen...
What Singer did was no easy task, and I have full faith and confidence in him to make an amazing sequel now that the pieces are in place...

As I have said since singer took his Val movie. Singer will NOT be back. It has been said I think I read it on a movie site that they are wanting a new direction.
THANK GOD! I cannot stand Singer's SR. It is puer homo-erotic and rehashed garbage.
I am an evil genius, an dmy most evil plan? REAL ESTATE! Mmmmwwwwhahahaaaaaaaa! Can Supes defeat Lex the Realtor? Stay Tuned. YAAAAAWN.

All I want to see is Supes actually hit something. No more Lex please. Bring in Doomsday, or Bizzaro, or anything he can fight.

Superman as an angry god??
How about Superman as Superman?

I like Miller, especially his run on the Ultimates; but I would still like to see Bryan Singer direct the next film...
I would rather like to see Millar put his efforts into the new MARVEL Studios, and make sure they make a killer THOR or CAPTAIN AMERICA...

I wouldn't mind a huge big loud messy Superman movie--in fact, I'd love to see that.. Not just make him lift some rock!

I don't think it's going to happen, but it's rather exciting news for me!
"Action director"... hmm. Hope to see some soon.

Well, what is this "reinvent"? Let him speak his mind and let the nerds sort it out. Batman got "reinvented" too if you consider the difference between Burton and Schumacher. And we saw how well THAT turned out.
Posted by: Matt on July 2, 2008 at 12:45:41
I think they should just keep going with Brandon Roth
Posted by: hypestyle on July 2, 2008 at 12:49:01
get the smallville cast involved and make it happen!

This could be a good sign.
Personally Mark Millar made one of the best reinventions of Superman to date with his Elseworlds mini series RED SON. In fact that book according to Dan Didio is one of the reasons the Elseworlds books have been put on hold. Apparently they were getting to many requests from people for more stories about those versions of the characters that it was undermining the monthly series.
Whatever.
If it turns out to be M. Bay doing the filming, then you can at least expect a visually appealing action movie. If Millar can write the whole script as he wants with support from the WB, then you will likely see a film that has Idea's as big or bigger than Dark Knight, but not the same sense of filming style.
In fact, I could see Michael Bay as the film version of Mark Millar's Artistic Partner Brian Hitch. Everyone knows that Hithes "wide screen style" is very remeniscant of Michael Bay.

im glad that they might be rebooting superman completely. i think that with nolan revamping batman begins and the dark knight, they should of gone in the same direction. im hoping millar's script is more like a begins story. like superman birthwright. arguably the better of the superman origin stories. i think id like to see another actor play supes as well. routh is okay, but i think he lacks some charisma u know. plus it would be confusing as to whether it connects to returns or not. he should also have lex, maybe metallo or parasite to start off and like the dark knight, build up towards doomsday for a third movie where he dies.
