Singer's Superman Sequel Deal Confirmed

Variety has confirmed that Bryan Singer has signed a deal with Warner Bros. Pictures to direct and produce a sequel to Superman Returns, with Legendary Pictures expected to co-finance.

The film is tentatively intended for release in summer 2009, although the studio stressed that there's not even a script or budget yet.

The sequel is apparently at the very beginning of the development process and, as with any other project, there are any number of factors that must be addressed before it is greenlit.

While Superman Returns wasn't the performer the studio had hoped for, it has earned more than $390 million worldwide and WB and Legendary say they will still turn a profit from the film.

The two companies are sure to insist that the sequel's production budget comes in under $200 million, adds the trade.

In terms of casting, Warner Bros. has an option on Superman Returns star Brandon Routh.

Dear Bryan Singer if you make superman returns 2 make superman do something in the fortress of solitude, talk to Jor-el. Have him fight bizzaro as well as some how get lex off the island like have superman find him and bring him to prison. Also have two villains instead of one.

Come guys up the ante,UP THE ANTE!!! Show off all of his powers, hell at this point I'd try to digest him changing into that blue electric crap, As long as it's something new and fresh.

Superman Returns was a great way to bring back Superman to his form. Everyone is so uptight because he didnt have a foe that he could lock up fist with. Thats what sequels are for....

Im hoping braniac is the villain. They could easily use the un-used material of Supes going back to krypton sequence and show somehow braniac downloading into his ship and returning to earth with him. So easy.

Good news. I was just talking about this with my sister yesterday, actually. I'm happy Singer's officially on board. Now, I just hope they call it "The Man of Steel" -- it'd be a nice parallel to "The Dark Knight." Besides, it's a lot more classy than "Superman Returns... Again!" As far as villains go, I'd be happy very happy with Metallo or Brainiac. The last interview I read with Routh was good, too. He definitely had the right idea with what direction Superman's character should go next.
