I'm pretty sure that's the effects of a poor marketing campaign. The Spirit is not a particularly popular character these days. I don't think that the trailers did enough to let non-readers know what the plot actually was.

And in the Comik book, the monkey don't know whom is truly his master, until the end when Dorothé is back for him

IT WAS SO BAD

That's a shame, because it was pretty friggin' sweet... It's definitely not for everyone, and it's very weird, but that was right up my alley. It had a lot more humor than I thought too.

Punisher War Zone should have done better than this crap.

Good. Now hopefully Miller will realise he isn't a director and stick to comics.

Come on! It opened on Christmas! You really expect it to make any money over the holidays when every body is rushing to get there Boxing Day big screens from Best Buy? I haven't seen it yet either but I'm going this week, and I heard it was awesome.

I agree with NOT A TUMOR. Money is tight and it's Christmas time. This should have been released in the Fall or the Spring, not Christmas Day.

You can't blame the fact it came out on Xmas day for the box office. Christmas is a very busy time for theaters...I had to wait in a line that went out the door on Christmas night. Several other movies were sold out that night such as Yes Man, Valkyrie, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Spirit had a decent crowd but everyone hated it!It got booed at the end I am not kidding! The movie was one of the worst films I have ever seen!
It dropped off 60% from Xmas day to Friday so word of mouth helped kill this garbage film. Frank Miller needs to stick to comics and leave movies to real directors.

seriously. i dont understand why movies come out during the holidays. especially ON xmas day. who ****ing goes to movies on xmas day? stupid idiots.
im a huge comic geek and i have yet to see punisher or spirit simply due to how busy i am in december. If someone like me, who lives for this ****, cant make it out to the theatres what makes these studios think that the average citizen who isnt huge into comics is going to go out of their way to go see movies?
sheesh.

Well... Ow. What's worse? That Marley & Me, a FOX release, won the box office.

Because not everyone does exactly the same as you on Christmas for their whole lives.
Non christians, people working away, people who don't have family, people for whom Christmas is just another day...
I've done it when working in a foreign country (Holland), living in a city where I didn't know anyone - it was something to do...
You'll understand a bit better when you've grown up a bit and experienced a bit more of life and the world, I'm sure.

The problem here is that nobody knows or cares who or what the Spirit is ! Stupid choice for a movie adaptation ! And It was way to much like Sin City visually ! Frank Miller is a great writer but this was a dumb movie for him to cut his teeth on ! This would have done better if it was done as a minuet along side the Phantom And the Shadow ! Like 3 short stories rolled in to one movie !

Personally,I hope this keeps Miller away form movies AND comics!

i haven't seen the movie yey but i plan on seeing it tomorrow.i can't say i'm surprised the movie is not doing well.for the average movie goer it looks like a rip off from sin city.but sin city was directed by robert rodriguez and he was the one who set the tone and the look for that movie and not frank miller imo.that's the second flop for lionsgate(first punisher war zone) and it's sad because being a punisher fan i really enjoyed that movie and deserved to make enough money for a sequel.

If you like The Spirit, it was an alright movie. Definitely not for everyone. I got to my local theater, and there was a line around the building. I was pretty sure I was the only one there for the Spirit. I was wrong; I had twelve other lonely companions. Damn Marley.

Well, needless to say, it was like **** Tracy on crack. So, at age seven, **** Tracy was cool. Now that I'm old, and looking for that childish side of myself, but without the embarassment... The Spirit is the way to go.
