Exclusive: New Trailer for The Spirit!
Source:Lionsgate
November 14, 2008
On Christmas Day, Lionsgate is release Frank Miller's anticipated The Spirit, and ComingSoon.net/Superhero Hype! has your exclusive first look at the new trailer!
Written and directed by Miller and adapted from Will Eisner's comic book series, the action adventure stars Gabriel Macht, Samuel L. Jackson, Sarah Paulson, Eva Mendes, Dan Lauria, Paz Vega, Jaime King, Scarlett Johansson, Louis Lombardi and Stana Katic.
The Spirit is the story of a former rookie cop who returns mysteriously from the dead as The Spirit (Macht) to fight crime from the shadows of Central City. His arch-enemy, The Octopus (Jackson) has a different mission: he's going to wipe out Spirit's beloved city as he pursues his own version of immortality. The Spirit tracks this cold-hearted killer from Central City's rundown warehouses, to the damp catacombs, to the windswept waterfront... all the while facing a bevy of beautiful women who either want to seduce, love or kill our masked crusader. Surrounding him at every turn are Ellen Dolan (Paulson), the whip-smart girl-next-door; Silken Floss (Johansson), a punk secretary and frigid vixen; Plaster of Paris (Vega), a murderous French nightclub dancer; Lorelei (King), a phantom siren; and Morgenstern (Katic), a sexy young cop.
Then of course, there's Sand Saref (Mendes), the jewel thief with dangerous curves. She's the love of his life turned bad. Will he save her or will she kill him?

I have no real desire to see this movie, having no attachment to the source material, and as much as I do love and want to see Watchmen, I think this trailer is a better trailer than Watchmen's.

Looks more like a commercial than a trailer. Still on the fence about this one.

Wow! Sin City 2 looks great
Posted by: Honest Fan on November 14, 2008 at 13:33:44
Wow... with this and the WATCHMAN trailer coming out, it's been a great day to be a comic/movie fan! Both look great. The Spirit is going to be very different for most people, especially those not familiar with the source material... I hope it doesn't discourage them from going out and enjoying the movie. I appreciate that in both cases (WATCHMAN & The Spirit) they're doing their best to stick to the source materials. I love the costumes, the corny lines ("Shut up and bleed" - I mean, are you serious? Can't you picture Stallone saying that?), and, in the case of the Spirit, the larger-than-life-dare-I-say-'unbelievable' action sequences. Just looks FUN to me.
I'd rather pick corn outta puke, put it back in the can, and eat it for dinner than watch another comic movie where the director felt he had to 're-imagine' some of the key factors of the hero (i.e.- Spider-Man, X-Men, etc.).

Looks pretty rediculous. Like Frank tried to remake it with his flair for over ther top-ness like in Sin City. But I still think that its probably going to be going to see it when it comes out.

Spirit will have the same elements and feeling as Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez's Sin City film a few years ago. The only actor I know that is in this movie is Samuel L. Jackson playing Octopus. I saw him in his acting outfit and he looked like a comic book pimp daddy suits Sam Jackson I suppose.

I love the Spirit comics, but I think the film is gonna totally screw it up by re-inventing the Octopus in the guise of Sam Jackson going full out like some kinda crazy mo fo. Don't get me wrong - I like Sam Jackson, but this doesn't feel right. And I haven't been impressed by the trailers I've seen so far. In the comics, you weren't supposed to see the Octopus' face, only his gloved hands, or an outline of his shape in shadow. FM missed the opportunity to create a villain in the mold of a Blofeld in the early Bond films where you only see him from the neck down, thereby creating a curiosity and a sense of mystery as to his origins, and to what he actually looks like.
And hell...the Watchmen trailers kick ass! You can't even compare them to the Spirit trailers. The first longer Spirit trailer that I saw made me think that had Will Eisner still been around during the making of this film, he would've kicked FM's ass right into a green screen.

Wilyking, Whoever you were talking to I think he knows that Spirit is not Sin City it is made by the same directors as Sin City and the look and feel of Spirit will remind you of Sin City. BTW, Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez will be doing the Sinc City sequels but, I don't know when Sin City 2 will be out. I hope Devon Aoki talks in the following films. In, the first film she was beautiful, dangerous and didn't say anything at all just used facial expressions in the place of talking. Also, I really enjoyed her in DOA: Dead Or Alive Devon is really a sexy woman and I love asians like crazy. Kasumi Ayane I know of your love for my brother. I will find Hayate and bring him home.

Hey Armand, yeah Octopus' face is not supposed to be seen, but can you name one single actor that would agree to a script where their face wasn't able to be seen. Those days are over, my friend. That's why the Spider-Man movies started to blow... Toby had in his contract that his face had to be seen a certain percentage of the time... so we got a freakin' torn mask in all three films and him unmasking every chance he got. Actors are too self-absorbed to do what was done in the early Bond films, or the Charlie's Angels TV show. Although the idea is killer, we'll never see it again.
That's my two cents... and you are right about the Watchmen trailer.

Probably gonna wait for DVD. Just never had an overwhelming urge to see this.

Well well well...A merry Bah Humbug to all the critics today.
Whatever you think, the fact is, It's gotta be better than last Christmas' movie.
AVP R! Eww! Shudder!
I want to see this movie, if only to see Frank Miller in the Directing chair. If he rules the screen we can expect more movies just as intense as the comics he writes and inks. Perhaps a Dark Knight Returns in colaberation with Nolan or Rodriguez. That would be a great direction.

beecause it's always so better than a french movie, cause Miller make a great adaptation with his own talent, cause Eisner and Miller were great friends, working in the same place, cause Miller get inspiration from argentins cartoonists autors for his black/white : Hugo Pratt, and Muñoz... I want to see it in France in december 31th... or a bit later. :-)
Great movie !
