March 15, 2008

Will Eisner's The Spirit writer/director Frank Miller has updated the movie's official website with a fourth Production Blog, in which he talks about the adaptation of The Spirit's main love interest Ellen Dolan from the pages of Eisner's comic series, to Miller's vision on film. The character is played by the always great Sarah Paulson ("Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip") in the movie.

Check out the update, as well as the three previous Production Blogs, here!

Coming to theaters on January 16, 2009, Lionsgate's action-adventure stars Gabriel Macht, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Eva Mendes, Paz Vega, Jamie King, Dan Lauria, Stana Katic, Johnny Simmons and Louis Lombardi.

Damn, I can't wait for this movie. I'll be there for the earliest showing I could attend. The Spirit kicks ass. My hat's off to Miller. He seems genuinley interested in the character and I trust he won't disappoint the fans.

Ah yes, the spirit I'm familiar with is the green ethereal omnipotence that emerges from my **** netherregions after I eat 4 big macs.

Tarantino's a Man Child posted: "Ah yes, the spirit I'm familiar with is the green ethereal omnipotence that emerges from my **** netherregions after I eat 4 big macs."

I never thought I'd see a comment more useless than a number post or an ad in "disguise".

I haven't trusted Miller since RoboCop 2, but The Spirit is a really cool opportunity to do something different in the comic-film scene (aside from the direct lifts, of course) that is battling in my brain over the inclusion of Eva "f**k acting get us some t*ts" Mendes.

This movie scares me. I'm so scared of Frank Miller these days. Please, for the love of Eisner, I hope those reins are strong.

I think Frank Miller is a genius. I LOVE his Batman. Yes, even the All-Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder.

I'm in for whatever he does...

This comment is for 20xx...

I wouldn't blame Miller too much for Robocop 2. They butchered his script so badly that he swore he'd never work in Hollywood again. It took Darren Aronofski (sp?) to even get him to work on a script in the 21st century when they did a work-up of Batman set in the 70's. The studio didn't like it. Too violent and very much in the spirit of the Deathwish movies. It wasn't until Roberto Rodriguez put everything on the line to give Miller tremendous amounts of control (ass. director credit) on Sin City that we were able to get a cinematic vision true to Miller's intentions. Miller knew Will Eisner, and is a fitting heir to his legacy. I think this film will be quite good.

I'm looking forward to whenever it is they decide to show what The Spirit will look like. It seems like they should've shown something by now. Unless Frank Miller is trying to be secretive until close to the movie's release.

Was never too familiar w/ the spirit besides knowing the character was legendary. I love Frank Miller but has he ever directed anything? I know he did the screenplay for RoboCop 2 or 3??

Marv...ahem...Steven The Comic Book Artist Here!
I've read a set visit article (in Wizard, I think) where the writer described The Spirit's look as:
*Black Fedora
*Domino mask (like the character)
*Black suit and shirt
*Red tie
Sounds like the color scheme is different from the comics. Yet, I'm such a Frank Miller geek, I have faith that he'll keep within the "spirit" (pun fully intended, beeyotches!) of The Spirit.
If you ask me, though, I'd love to see Miller adapt either Hard Boiled or Give Me Liberty.
Anyone have any thoughts on the casting of those 2 comics to fliks ideas?
I'll remain open minded about The Spirit film when I see it.
IN FRANK WE TRUST!!!!!!!!!

Miller is an untalented hack who got lucky. He will ruin the Spirit with his warped vision.

He is so cool and talented. I appreciate him. Internet is a good place to share information and meet friends. I recently found a nice web site called pubspa.com where you can meet friends who have same interest in beauty care, massage, wellness and spa treatment. You can also share blog, video, game, photos, etc with people from all over the world. Unlike other online dating sites where you have to pay membership fee, this site is totally free. I already made several interesting friends there.

Frank Miller is one of the reasons we have the movies based on comics that we have today. That he has gone from drawing to writing/drawing to screenplays to actual adaptions/directing his own works to adapting and writing Eisners Spirit, it cannot be denied that the man is beyond talented, his ability to visualize his stories and translate his vision regardless of the vehicle used is unmatched. Can you name another writer/artist/director with the body of work Frank Miller has to his credit? You cannot. Anyone who cannot accept that Frank Miller is one of the greatest artist of our time is simply an idiot beyond compare.

I'm not too familiar with THE SPIRIT,though I
have heard about that character a bit.The cast
looks really good so I'm excited to see how
Frank Miller will put it together.I think this
film will be good, and being that I loved SIN CITY and 300 was such a cool movie,it shouldn't
disappoint.I'm looking forward to the trailer whenever it comes out.The Spirit is gonna be a cool movie.

As long as it doesn't turn into the "Godd*mn" Spirit...

Posted by: JonnyQuest037 on March 17, 2008 at 13:52:25

OK, so black hat & suit, no Ebony White, a recharacterized Dr.(?!?) Ellen Dolan... just what exactly is Miller NOT changing about the Spirit?

So far this sounds like "Will Eisner's The Spirit" the same way the Francis Ford Coppola film was "Bram Stoker's Dracula"...

Posted by: JonnyQuest037 on March 17, 2008 at 13:56:08

Oh, I forgot one more change from Eisner: An Octopus whose face we see, as played by Samuel L. Jackson.

Way to go, Frank. Next time, why not try adapting your source material rather than just rewriting in your own style?

I Believe in Frank Miller. Nuff said.
