McAdams Debunks Spider-Man 4 Rumor
Source:Entertainment Weekly
November 17, 2009

Last week, it was reported that Rachel McAdams was a frontrunner for the role of Felicia Hardy/Black Cat in Spider-Man 4, but she tells Entertainment Weekly it's not true:

“That’s a total rumor, I have to say,” the actress, who will next be seen in the Dec. 25 action-adventure tentpole Sherlock Holmes, tells EW. “I was hanging out in Toronto the other day and someone came up to me and said, ‘I just heard you’re doing Spider-Man 4.‘ And I said, ‘Really? No one told me!’ It’s not true.” A rep for Sony Pictures concurs: “It’s an Internet rumor, as so many things are these days.”

That may be true, but there's been many cases of actors or actresses denying they've landed a role in a film, only to be announced a little later as being officially attached. We'll have to wait and see when official casting announcements are made.

interesting i do like her as an actress. I would be down if she does take the role. But we should know soon enough who and what sm4 is since filming is starting in march.

Good actress, but not so sure she's make a good black cat.

I always thought she would've made an awesome Sue Storm...as hot as J Alba is...she's no Sue Storm compared to McAdams!

Catwoman > Black Cat

Hope restored. No Black Cat please. No McAdams please.

Damn shame is what that is.

Oh, thank goodness. I’m glad that cheesy Catwoman rip-off-of-a-villain Black Cat is nowhere near the production of this film. And seriously, Black Cat? Do they really want to put Black Cat into this pathetic film?! Black Cat, to me, is nothing more than yet another example of Marvel and how they rip-off already established characters.

I mean, Peter and his Daily Planet, er, excuse me, Daily Bugle newspaper staff is a carbon copy of the Daily Planet staff, Kingpin is a poorman’s Lex Luthor, only fatter, Daredevil is Marvel’s dark and brooding answer to DC’s dark and brooding Batman, Fantastic Four is a superhero revamp of Challengers of the Unknown, and add Black Cat to the mix as a rip-off of Catwoman.

Oh, and storylines as well. Seriously, the pathetically written storyline of “The Other” aka “The Death and Return of Spider-Man” was an ode to a much more successful Superman storyline of the same premise.

Oy. Marvel, you are like Disney -- not a single original bone in your body except for a handful of characters.

Anyways, I'm in for a good laugh, and can't wait to see how they put Peter and MJ's relationship on screen this time. I'm sure it will be the typical I-love-you-hate-you-love-you formula of the past three films. And if "Spider-Man 3" was the "Batman Forever" of the Spider-Man franchise, then I guess "Spider-Man 4" will no doubt be the hilarously-eye-coveringly-bad "Batman and Robin" of the franchise.

senorashish,
I agree. remember those cartoons you used to watch as a kid that deep down you KNEW were so horribly corny you couldn't help but get a little embarrassed when you watched them? I had those. as much as I loved some shows, even if i was alone in the room I still felt a great deal of anxiety, especially during opening theme songs. that's how i felt during batman and robin. just five minutes of that movie makes me get some really bad goose bumps and I have to change the channel because i feel like i'm committing some sort of crime watching it. spidey definately seemed to be heading in that direction in the last movie. and i'm imagining the new one being some campy mess of stupid-looking villains and the shallowest of character developments.
-unfortunately, i feel the same way about the new batman franchise. I just have a feeling that the next one will be very much below the standards of the last two.
BRING ON A SLEEPWALKER MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that's all i have to say... I'm out!!

@ batboy999

AGREED!

But I think the difference between the new Batman and the Spider-Man franchises is the directors. I doubt Batman will be headed down the same path again with Nolan at the helm. "Batman and Robin" type crap is beneath him.

But with Raimi, he seems more concerned about making Peter and MJ's love story the premise and main plot of ALL of the Spider-Man films. I mean, serioulsy, when is the villain going to play an integral role in a Spider-Man film?

Green Goblin was a wasted opportunity. He was reduced to the typical "join me or die" villain, and showed up just for actions sake. There really was no reason driving his actions in the first movie. What was his goal? Beats me.

Doc Ock was a step up, but his plan has so many plot holes (i.e. How the hell was he going to use gold coins to finance his rebuilding of the dynamo machine? And, where the hell did he get all of that high tech gadgetry from in the first place? Did he just order it online and have them FedEx it to 1234 N. Fake Street, New York, NY?).

Now we get to part 3. Venom was a waste. Complete and utter waste. They tarnished the character. And Topher Grace? Yeah. I'm still trying to wrap my head around that. And why DIDN'T Harry just become Green Goblin 2? Instead he became some sort of Sky Rider Ninja. Stupid! And Sandman just appeared randomly trying to steal money. And his origin was as basic and crappy and formulaic as that of Poison Ivy's in "Batman and Robin."

There were rumors a while back that Raimi intended on having Morbius in the next film. If this is the case, then I give up. And I will seriously give up on ALL Spider-Man films if MJ is held hostage by the villain and is hanging from some high-up object again!

Yep Marvel sure gets "inspiration" from DC. But then Marvel makes every single character about 10 times more interesting than DC's ever been close to.

Posted by: blackcatmeh on November 17, 2009 at 06:26:24

She would be horrible as black cat anyway. I was expected them to **** with continuity and make gwen black cat, as she looks so damn perfect for it.

senorashish

Copying DC? DC just had a long time ahead of marvel producing comics. Its like watching tv, you see many shows using similar plot devices, character archetypes etc. Marvel are winning the comic race nowadays, and DC want that action after seeing the publicity of cap duing, they killed batman. No one cared. lol

I've said it once on this site and I'll say it again...

I got an insider scoop some months back when I was in LA that the villains for the film are going to be The Vulture & The Vulturette.

Don't believe me if you don't want to (I almost threw up in my mouth when I first heard it, trust me) but time will prove me right once the film comes out.

Posted by: Bieleve Or Not I doubt on November 17, 2009 at 07:05:33

wait and see ( who i not) but i want the vulpture (bruce willis) and Kraven (Buttler) !

Posted by: senorashish on November 17, 2009 at 07:17:18

@ daddyahoh

If you are right about the Vulture and Vulturette scoop, then "Spider-Man 4" will indeed be the "Batman and Robin" of the Spider-Man franchise. Oy, let the laughter begin!

Posted by: raidermaggot on November 17, 2009 at 07:38:31

i think morbius is going to be a part of this movie

Just found it interesting what I found on that "sage of wisdom" wikipedia in regards to all the Black Cat / Catwoman comparisons:

"The Black Cat is sometimes considered an homage to DC's Catwoman,[2]. Yet some aspects of the Black Cat character, such as Felicia Hardy's signature low cut black costume, cat burglar profession, and steady relationship to Spider-Man, predate Selina Kyle's similar depiction in comics by almost a decade. Catwoman originally appeared in comics as "the Cat", a maskless cat burglar in a green dress and unrequited love interest for Batman,[3] but later on became a gimmick supervillain that used big cats for elaborate crimes.[4] Although she was eventually given a black catsuit in the television series, her modern incarnation combining these elements didn't occur until 1987 with Frank Miller's classic Batman: Year One."

Bullshi+ or no? Just thought I'd throw it out there. Anyways, they should just have fun on this movie, bring on Rhino!

Posted by: Boomstick on November 17, 2009 at 09:12:51

Better yet! Bring back Sandman, introduce Hydro Man... you know where I'm going with this right? ...and bring on Mud Thing! C'mon! It'd be ridiculous! ... I hear he's a great dancer...
Seriously thought, never read that story line so have no idea what that'd be like. But it sounds like it'd be somethin'

Posted by: Brand-O on November 17, 2009 at 09:18:37

That's okay. She didn't have the **** for the part, anyway.

Posted by: Marvel guy on November 17, 2009 at 09:45:30

Damn lots of marvel hate and DC love going on. you apologist are lucky Blackest Night came along otherwise Marvel would be blowing Dc outta the water (they are still leading them) DC is full of lame characters with lame powers that you never get to truly care about. Clark Kent/Superman is by far the most boring and uninteresting character out there and it shows in movies and comics. Batman tho.... c'mon like i have anything bad to say about that guy...he's badass! but would get his ass whooped by tony stark.

A good movie is a good movie no matter where the source material comes from, but when it comes to Marvel and DC comparisons, can anyone really make a claim that DC is better? Listed in DC's top 50 heroes and villains are Granny Goodness, Zatana (who casted spells by saying words backword???), Gorilla Grodd, Trickster and Pied Piper, Catman, Congorilla. Others are Captain Boomerang, Clock King, Killer Moth...Frankly the list of ridiculous goofy characters could go on and on. I guess if your mind cant grasp a good story you would be a fan of DC.

Posted by: Wakigo on November 17, 2009 at 10:05:17

interesting. This move will rock!!!!

Posted by: troll827 on November 17, 2009 at 10:34:41

Being a fan of both Marvel and DC I tend to lean more towards DC. Just personal preferance. DC must doing something right since a lot of their characters have been around since the late 30's-early 40's. But like I said, I still enjoy Marvel and read the Max Punisher and Deadpool titles every month. Spider-Man 4 will have to a lot to redeem itself as a franchise. No Black Cat, no wishy washy, boo-hooing love stories. Give us some awesome villian (i.e. Electro, Mysterio, HOBGOBLIN-though that one won't happen) trying to kill/maim Spider-Man or destroy something major. I think that's part of why the last 2 Batman movies were sucessful and Superman flopped. Batman kept the love interest to a minimum and that's all Superman was about. I am going to be very hesitant about seeing this after Spider-Man 3.

Posted by: Janos Skorzeny on November 17, 2009 at 10:35:53

Good! I hope this means the inclusion of Black Cat is just a rumor too. That has got to be one of the cheesiest, stupidest characters ever put into comics.
And, translating Black Cat to live action would likely end the entire Spider-Man franchise. It would be so stupid to watch.

Posted by: Big D on November 17, 2009 at 11:14:59

I like Black Cat in the comics but always thought she'd seem too much like Catwoman in the movies.
