Reeve Carney, of rock band Carney, will play Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Julie Taymor's Broadway show "Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark," producer Michael Cohl announced Friday. Carney has a role in Taymor's upcoming drama, The Tempest.
The singer is joining a cast that includes Evan Rachel Wood as Mary Jane Watson and Alan Cumming in the role of Norman Osborn/Green Goblin.
The lavish musical is scheduled to open sometime in 2010 at the Hilton Theatre. The show will feature a score by Bono and The Edge of U2.

This is going to be better than Spider Man 2, I always thought Jared Leto would be better than Tobey Mcguire

I thought this was shut down due to budget issues??
SHH, because I'm lazy, can you find the article that announced it was back up and running and share with us?

Yeah, last I read on this ordeal, the thing was cancelled because of budget issues and the kid from 21 and Across the Universe was still playing Peter Parker...I can see this new guy as Peter though. That said, I'm interested when the events were changed around...

First off, it was never canceled, it was delayed indefinitely. Secondly, they announced less than a month back that they would proceed through the budget issues that were continuously arising due to Julie Taymor's ****ty ability to manage money.
Also, this guy could be REALLY good. He just needs a haircut and a smoother shave. Which I'm sure he'll be getting.
@Robert The dude from Across The Universe was NEVER locked in, he was a prospect.

A score by U2? This smells like a turd.

Sometimes, people need to realize that certain comic books are not meant to be translated to film, and, moreso, certain comic books should never be translated to the Broadway stage. In short, Spider-Man is the only comic book and comic book character so out there and cheesy enough to make the transition. It could work. I mean, Electro's stupid costume just screams BROADWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

senorashish- i can think of one better for a musical that would be far more interesting and hilarious. I see we get people to sign a petition to have them ditch this one in favor of a Deadpool musical! I can already see Deapool singing his insults at everyone while suing it to insult other musicals and the musical medium in general. it would be amazing!

Didn't U2 do the soundtrack for batman forever?
As i recall it was better than the movie.

Have to agree on that one

What about that Captain America musical I read about in the early 90's? There were ads for it in every comic I read from Marvel. Cap's sparkley broadway costume wouldn't be as fruity as Alex Ross' Cap costume. He's a good artist and all, it just looks like everybody is wearing cheap halloween costumes and everybody has the same head and face. That's what you get from a guy who thinks the Super Friends is the pinnicle of what super heroes can be.
Spidey musical is going to weigh fifty, sixty Courics.

Are any of you really going to see this? Why do you care?
Posted by: LunchBox on November 7, 2009 at 10:05:19
well the guy looks greasy enough to be tobey maguire. i'm gonna continue pretending this musical doesn't exist, and just hope for a better movie this time.

This Bradway stuff about Spider-Man, i don't give much credit to it. They should worry about the movies and not theater plays.
What is worrying is that Marvel Entertainment is losing money and with Disney on the mix Marvel future is becoming darker and darker.
I am giving today more credit to DC than Marvel.

It's a shame if tomorrow Marvel will end...

Wow i almost forgot about this. Will have to see the reviews on this one, hope it's good

wood shoulda played MJ in the movies! wtf?!
Posted by: Captainhulk on November 7, 2009 at 17:44:40
Marvel lost money, because they only had one movie in 2009 and iron Man 2 looks like the only thing they will have out in 2010. Just wait until 2011!
Posted by: HulkSmashNow on November 7, 2009 at 18:08:35
Dear Jesus, why? Why would they do this? Oh, well, Marvel does need the money. Waitaminute, no they don't!

Kind opf amazing how a single casting choice will drive some of you to be insane freaks. I appreciate your passion for Spider-Man, but you're already judging this guy when you haven't seen his performance yet. I think it's brilliant (and appropriate) that they chose a lead singer of a rock band. And yes, with a haircur and a wardrobe change, he DOES look like a suitable Peter Parker. I hope this musical will rock. I'll be there opening night.

This already wreaked of fail when the got U2 to write the music for it.
