Sam Raimi on the Spider-Man 4 Villain
October 13, 2009
While he naturally wouldn't reveal who the villain is in Spider-Man 4, director Sam Raimi told MTV what their thinking is behind the villain they will choose:
"What we're trying to do right now is really understand the journey Peter is going to go on this time and have the villain maybe be a counter to that growth, something that he has to overcome," Raimi said. "Or maybe he has to grow in a way to overcome the villain, because there always seem to be stories of coming of age, of a young man growing up and learning things about life, so once we are identifying the exact movement that Peter has to grow to, I think the villain—and we're trying this right now; we're trying to choose a villain based on who would be the proper counter to that growth, so we really have dramatic conflict."
You can check out the full interview here. Spider-Man 4 is scheduled to hit theaters on May 5, 2011.

i hope hes talking about a growth where parker grows a beard and starts merking on villains, i think the growth he is looking for is the introduction of the king pin, that way we will ensure parker to fail at something causing him to grow

lizard would be the right choice, preceeded by a spidey whoopin in the first 5 minutes on the rhino.

it would be reallly sweet if they introduced the tinker, if it was possible

the fact that everyone wants the lizard is rediculous how can a mindless animal give the wall crawler a run for his money. what needs to be is someone who will make peter choose his values over what is the right thing to do, giving carnage a great villain letting peter decide whether he should take a life to defeat someone who does not care one way or the other, to live or die. carnage would be a great villain that makes peter make that choice should i kill or let the justice system takes its course.
thanks for reading if you have anything smart to say to try to make me look dumb, i have not dissed anyone, but if you diss me i will come back at you fo sho
thanks

When Peter still hasn't "grown" after three movies it's means either he's really dysfunctional or the director is.
As for the villain ... in another interview, Raimi said he wanted the villain to be "very New York". He also said he wanted a more believable, more personal, and mature villain. For those reasons, I think he's going to use the Kingpin.
There have been too many "good scientist turns monster" villains to possibly warrant a Lizard movie. Doesn't mean Raimi won't, but I'm just saying it's very repetitive. I think he needs to ground this franchise in some realism anyway, especially after the last one, which was panned almost universally by audiences and critics alike.

He said that same exact thing before making the other movies as well.
And in this case he's probably going to go Lizard. I'd bet lots and lots of money that it's a story about how far he's willing to go with blah blah and sees Connors go too far and realizes he should cry some (which doesn't fit anymore because connors is a "physicist" instead of a biologist/herpetologist).
How about Peter just wants to graduate from school, and with midterms just around the corner he has to deal with Sir Ben Kingsly and, because his Ultimate appearances are always great for a snappy, funny if not brief fight, a low grade Shocker.
I don't want the villain to represent his internal struggle. I prefer the villains in the books because they create the internal conflicts.
I dunno, I'm just rambling at this point. I've been so disappointed.. I wish him the absolute best of luck making this one count. For mine and the fans' sake, not his.
And for the love of all that is Marvel, will Tobey Maguire please hit the damn weights? Just because the franchise is yours without you having to audition or lobby anymore it doesn't mean you can just take it easy and bank on a girdle underneath your spandex. Show some respect for the fans, your craft, and most importantly for the character.
And if anybody cuts your shirt in a mid air battle, you'd better have the suit on underneath and your mask in your pocket. Or rip something off of a clothesline and wrap it around your face. You wear the mask for a reason.. keep it the fug on.

The Lizard should be the main villian and "Final Conflict" of the movie, but Kraven should be the sub-story.
Kraven comes to America to capture the large man-Lizard that has been terrorizing New York. Spidey and him constantly meet on the trail to the Lizard and Kraven being the Hunter he is, goes after Spidey as well...
now roll with it

God, just hire a good writer and u wont have a prob. While i dont want raimi to direct i definitely dont want him to write another spiderman flick, the last one sucked.

Fox owns the Kingpin.. not gonna happen.
Would be neat, there's no denying that, but I don't think we'll get it.

It's a Spider-man movie!!! Not a Peter parker movie!!
Think about it

Mysterio.
Also, have Bruce Campbell be Mysterio. That's his "expanded" part. He's the villain in Spider-Man 4.

geting older from young how about the vulture he takes ur age away to make himself younger but the lizard in order for the lizard to be in it the kingpin has to be in it anywase he gives the lab to connor to use and he makes the mistake in there then turns

THE LIZARD!!!
Posted by: Phirun Roeun on October 13, 2009 at 01:45:47
The Vulture. He needs young people to reverse his age. Maybe he'll absorb peter and make him old, now that's real growth! If they can make the Vulture and action fighting scene like the in the game "web of shadow"(youtube fighting vulture in web of shadow), then HEY! But I would actually rather see a story about Kraven hunting for the Lizard in NY. While Spidey tried to save Doc Connor, he ends up having to fight them both, so it becomes a big dilemma between all three of them because they are all fighting each other, one is hunting the other two, one is trying to save one from the other one, and one just want to be left a lone by the other two. The Lizard could be the plot that the story revolve around. Just an idea for starter.

i ve decided i dont want to see the lizard because everyone wants the same thing lizard and kraven, so damn predictable, thats not story telling, thats turning a cartoon into a movie
Posted by: Brand-O on October 13, 2009 at 01:52:57
Lizard's the next logical step, although I'm secretly hoping for Mysterio. And story-wise, I hope they jump ahead a few years to match closer to Tobey's age; Peter should be in his late 20s/early 30s this time.
Posted by: cire on October 13, 2009 at 01:59:02
I agree... I would love to see Kraven the Hunter hunt Spidey down, especially on his wedding day or have the sinister six come in and spoil the fun too. As for Doc Oct... well, you know. In the comic book universe. Villians have come back without any reconition of their past.
