Stan Lee to Appear in the Venom Spin-Off

At this point, it's a foregone conclusion that Marvel's former president and chairman Stan Lee will have a cameo in every single movie based on a Marvel Comics character whether or not he had any direct association with that character during his lengthy career. But how many of the upcoming movies can claim that he's already been written into the script?
When we spoke to Zombieland creators Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese a few months back, they were hesitant about saying much about the Venom script they'd been working on. (You can read what they could say here.) As we were going through our lengthy interview with them, we found a little missed tidbit that might thrill Marvel fans, as they admitted to us that Lee will appear in the Venom movie and that they've even already written his part!
"Oh, yeah. Stan Lee is in it," Reese told us. "I feel like that's the one thing we can say. He does appear in our script, and we're very specific about where he is and why. May he live forever. Let's hope he's in many movies to come."
Check out ShockTillYouDrop.com next week for our very lengthy interview with Wernick and Reese talking specifically about Zombieland, which comes out on October 9.

While Stan is indeed The Man, I still don't know what to make of this solo Venom movie....

So I guess that this Venom movie is really going on.

Really? A venom movie? as if spider-man 3 wasn't terrible enough because of venom...

meh...could be cool

I'll admit, I was kinda disappointed with Spider-man 3. Still, though, I say no harm in continuing to try. I do hope that we get some actual badassery from Venom this time around!

Why would Stan Lee be in a Venom movie? He had nothing to do with Venom.
God, this movie's going to blow.

Venom movie...hm...it 'thrills' me as much as a Deadpool movie...
So every 3rd tier character gets a movie...it bombs, then suddenly, comic book/superhero movies aren't in vogue anymore.
But I'll be first in-line for "Emma Frost: The White Queen's College Years"

Maybe true believers...Stan will be playin Cletus Kasady. Make mine Carnage!
Lets hope they bring back Topher Grace...he was awesome in Spidey 3.

All the people that pissed and moaned about Punisher: War Zone were wanting to see this movie get made. What do you expect out of this? Shakespeare? I mean, how many people complained about PWZ and it's over the top action and bad acting? You honestly think Venom will have a better, cohesive script? These are probably the same people cheering for TF:ROTF.

Todd Mcfalane should make a Cameo too

First, Venom is the most unnecessary movie Marvel is working on right now. Even moreso than Deadpool and Xmen First Class, which is saying a lot.
Second, it's obviously NOT a foregone conclusion that Stan Lee will be in every Marvel movie, since he hasn't BEEN in every Marvel movie.
When I started freequenting this site, it seemed like the best soursce of superhero/comic book based news around. That was my initial impression. But my confidence in SHH is increasingly shaken by oversights both large (Sherlock Holmes updates but no Star Trek updates? Really, SHH?) and small (thinly disguised Taco Bell, 7-11 and McDonald's ads disguised as "top stories"). I''ve asked SHH questions about these things-- perfectly politely, I might add--only to have my post ignored or outright deleted. I'm beginning to wonder if I should be shopping around for another site to frequent and recommend to my friends.

Stan Lee in a Venom movie? That doesn't make sense. And by the way, why are they even making a Venom movie?
Posted by: venomrox on July 3, 2009 at 12:43:58
As you can tell by my username, Venom rox! I hope this solo movie is good. Anything better than what we got in Spidey 3. My idea for a solo film-Venom survives the blast from the end of SM3, bonds completely with the symbiote and refers to himself as "we". Moves to San Francisco, has trouble supressing his desire to eat people. Gets captured by police, his cellmate becomes Cletus Kassady. Rest of the movie is straight up Venom vs. Carnage action! Just my two cents.

This news is almost as exciting as the new poster for Iron Man 2. Seriously, Superherohype, why even bother to post "news" like this? (Especially like this, where it's pretty much a given that Stan Lee would be in every Marvel film in some form or another!)
Well, on the other hand, it's good to know that "The Man" hasn't kicked the bucket. Just how old is the guy anyways?

Since I've heard that this movie will forego the connection to Topher and Spider-Man 3, I'm betting bucks to bottom dollar that this movie will be in the same vein as CATWOMAN! arrrrrgghhh!

I just ate my words. Sorry, mojojackson, didn't even bother to read your post first.

I actually really hope that Spider-Man appears as an opposite to Venom in this film. Otherwise, it doesn't make sense why they would make a Venom spin-off.
Posted by: Harish on July 3, 2009 at 13:00:09
I hope it's good. No sense b****ing and moaning like the cliché film adaption comic 'fan' is there?
Dunno what to expect, but hey a Stan Lee pre-written cameo - wonder what the big deal is hmmmm
Posted by: N_R_23 on July 3, 2009 at 13:01:58
Agreed, may he live forever!
Posted by: Allen Robinson on July 3, 2009 at 13:02:01
Dum ****s! Venom has had a solo comic for years and you can't compare it to Spiderman 3 which was written by a totally differnt group of people. The really bad Marvel films come from Fox! That's why Marvel started there own Production studio so there stuff will stop being raped by the studio execs at Fox.

evilhomer45, SM3 sucked because it was a horribly made piece of crap, not because Venom was in it. If you want to pull the "bu... bu... but Raimi didn't want Venom in the movie" then you're a complete sheep. Raimi was dealt a specific hand of cards and instead of making the best hand of it he completely flopped. The fuster cluck that is SM3 is Raimi's fault. Hell, he even caused Danny Elfman to jump ship.

Whilst I'll agree with your second point (your first is a fair belief, however I feel it's only just a film so why not?... IF they can do it right) I don't think it's fair to dismiss SHH! over Sherlock Holmes articles. Star Trek is not really superhero material, whereas Sherlock is a superhero of the old school who also happens to have [started with] novels and later, graphic novels (though none I've read). I agree that SHH! do too many "thinly disguised" news articles but superhero adaptions in general are thin on good news.
At least we get news, big or small, blundering or not it's available to look over if we so choose to read it.

Love Stan...don't see the need for a Venom spinoff. There's so many more deserving projects and so many they haven't gotten right.
