Sam Raimi Talks Spider-Man 4
Source:SCI FI Wire
April 21, 2009

SCI FI Wire chatted with Spider-Man 4 director Sam Raimi, who said that he's meeting soon with Kirsten Dunst to talk about her reprising the role of Mary Jane Watson. "I think she would like to. But I don't want to speak on behalf of her," he said.

He was also asked if the recent darker and edgier superhero movies will influence the fourth installment. "I hope we don't react to these very good and sometimes bad superhero movies around us. I hope that we just [look] ever deeper into the truth of who Peter Parker really is—as a human being and the unique character, and that we celebrate that, which is a lot of the reason I want to make this next picture. I still believe I have an understanding of Peter Parker as the character that I have not quite put onto the screen yet," he said.

As long as its along the lines of Spider-Man 1 & 2 we should be excellent

Posted by: theMerch424 on April 21, 2009 at 23:41:04

The whole series is already messed up. You can't make another good sequel after you mess one up as bad as Spider-Man 3.

Posted by: crusher creel on April 21, 2009 at 23:41:55

Doesy this mean more whining over Mary Jane, no Spider-Man cracking jokes, more emo dancing, showing a cool villian for only ten minutes, and only a few cool fight scenes which are followed by the villian and Peter Parker crying together?

Good grief....

Posted by: Quatros on April 21, 2009 at 23:42:39

Well, I do like consistency in my movies. I am just not sure if I like Dunst or the Character. Can we please drop that angle of MJ for awhile? And while we're at it, Aunt May? God, she gets annoying 'Remember that time YOU KILLED BEN?!'

Posted by: Ducey13 on April 21, 2009 at 23:42:53

I think they should stick to one central Villain and someone who can carry a movie by themself, I thought Electro would be the best choice for part 3 and still think he'd be the best for part 4. Runner up be Mysterio. 2nd Runner up be the Return of the Green Goblin aka Norman Osborn. I think Mary Jane is still important to the story but not Crucial. I'd be somewhat interested in Felicia Hardy being a new love interest with the mysterious black cat running around.

face the fact, the studio pushing Venom on Rami didn't make him put in emo dancing Pete, nor did it push him to cast the horribly unfit for the part and downright troll looking Dunst. And it sure didn't make him turn the Goblin into a Power Ranger villian. Rami's had his shot and it didn't end well...I want new blood for the Spider-Man series...

Maybe you should check out "the spectacular spider-man" for hints about what peter parker is and how he acts...?
I agree, you haven't quite got it yet.

Posted by: crusher creel on April 21, 2009 at 23:44:20

so... let's not emulate a huge hit they is now number 2 all time and did not insult the intelligence of the audience?

Posted by: Wil on April 21, 2009 at 23:44:34

Ok whatever...I already know it's going to be **** unless it's a complete reboot.

Nothing but a great reboot can ever make me forget how they raped venom in the 3rd and Spiderman as a whole.

Oh I heard of talks on a Venom spin off, how the hell can they do that?! They MADE and KILLED him Spiderman 3. So uh yeah ok...

No, you should lay off Spider-Man, "Hack" Raimi! You gave us an excellent "Spider-Man", and you gave us an even greater "Spider-Man 2", but "Spider-Man 3"? What the hell? It was so... mediocre. I mean it wasn't anywhere as bad as "Ghost Rider", "Elektra", either "Fantastic 4" movie, "Batman Forever", "Batman and Robin", any of the "Blade" movies, any of the "Punisher" movies, "Superman III", "Superman IV: The Quest for Peace" or "Catwoman", but it wasn't anywhere near as good as the first two! If you can't always surpass your previous movie, then you're an absolute hack, "Hack" Raimi. Why don't you go back to making "Evil Dead" movies, because you obviously have absolute no knowledge at all of Spider-Man. Yes, leave the franchise alone and let it die, so that years later, someone else can pick it up and make it dark. Yes! Really, REALLY dark, like "The Dark Knight" dark. I mean, Spider-Man isn't at all a dark character, not even remotely, but his movies need to be dark! We need someone who can show us Carnage, entirely devoid of any personality, going around and ripping NYC citizens in half in all gory glory! We need to see the brutal deaths of Peter Parker's parents in their plane crash! We need to see Peter Parker, Mary Jane and Gwen Stacy having a threesome while Venom goes around shouting "We are Venom! We want to eat your brains" every 5 seconds! But stay the hell away from Spider-Man, Raimi, that's the bottom line!

Of course, that was all sarcasm! Sorry, a little over-the-top, maybe, but hey, I had fun writing it all!

Posted by: crusher creel on April 21, 2009 at 23:47:03

More of the same Raimi bullcrap is on the way guys and gals, don't expect much.

And yeah, you sure as hell haven't gotten him down yet...

Posted by: Quatros on April 21, 2009 at 23:48:01

Chirping reboot is awfully premature. Maybe they can save this. Maybe they won't. But Reboots are not always for the best, especially since I think we're all tired of Origin stories by now.

Posted by: gringolandia1982 on April 21, 2009 at 23:50:01

Next movie should be Lizard and Morbius since both are or I should say were professors and the same university.

Any word on who's playing Mephisto? Also, I nominate Mickey Rourke as Aunt May: "Peter, I'm just an old, broken down piece of meat...I just don't want you to hate me so much..."

In response the theMerch424's comment

" The whole series is already messed up. You can't make another good sequel after you mess one up as bad as Spider-Man 3. "

Y cant you? Bad comics come out all the time. Then the next story is good. Comic stories are up and down all the time. If the movies are based on comics then y cant you have a bad movie and rebound with a better one?
Or did you just want something to complain about?

I thought so!

Posted by: Early bird on April 21, 2009 at 23:52:08

please no Emo Parker That was so lame!!!!

Posted by: The Wise Viking on April 21, 2009 at 23:54:59

You people know you are going to be there opening night whether is blows or not and despite your moaning and groaning, you will pay your $10. That is all the studios want. They don't care if you like it as long as you pay to see it.

Posted by: night0205 on April 21, 2009 at 23:56:34

Uh, Raimi does deserve respect guys. Spider-man 3 was just to much for one film...and yes Venom could get a spin-off. And Raimi knows about the complaints about the 3rd one...k, every reviewer told him.
Fact: Spiderman 4 is coming directed by Sam Raimi and you can't change it, so just try and face the facts and do the best with what we can. Let your opinions known, but your opinion isn't stopping Raimi from directing it.
Let's hope it's a learning experience.

to Anonymous:
You are dead on. Somethings work well being dark and edgy. Spider-man is not one of them.

You are a tool and ride the short bus.

We know who Peter Parker is, Sam. He's Spiderman first and Peter Parker second. Stop trying to give us your feelings on who you "think" he is and just read a few comic books. You may learn something and get a movie right.

lol @ Why So Serious!

Posted by: Anonymous on April 22, 2009 at 00:02:07

Yes, Will, the Spider-Man series is now OFFICIALLY butchered because Venom wasn't the star of Spider-Man 3. Waitaminute, what did I just say? "Spider-Man 3"? "*SPIDER-MAN* 3". Sheesh, if die hard fanboy ****s like you didn't ***** and cry rivers for Venom to be in the movie, then maybe we could've had a better movie.

Know something? Venom's about as two-dimensional as villains (of any medium) come. The ONLY one worse I can possibly think of is *gasp!* Carnage!
