Who Will Spidey Face on Broadway?
March 28, 2009
The New York Post sneaked into an event this week for Julie Taymor's upcoming Broadway show "Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark" (full details here) and learned more about the villains in the story, which Taymore described as a "circus rock-'n'-roll drama." Here's an excerpt from the article:
As Spider-Man, Peter clashes with a parade of Marvel villains -- Green Goblin, Carnage, Electro, Rhino, Swarm and Lizard.
Berger and Taymor have invented a new baddie for the show -- Swiss Miss, whose costume, designed by Oscar winner Eiko Ishioka ("Bram Stoker's Dracula"), consists of rotating knives and swirling corkscrews.
Five young singers performed six songs from the show, including the haunting "Rise Above," which is as good as any rock ballad in "Rent."

Just a bad idea. But hey, if Bono wants to flush $30 million down the drain, he has the right to do so. Ain't America grand?

It's a GOOFY idea, but not an appalling one. Relax.
It's a Broadway show, there's an enormous amount of work that is put into it. Costume design, lighting, choreography, vocal rehearsals, countless hours of preparation go into these performances.
This isn't just your average little high school play guys. There's more to it than just trying to make a 'quick buck'.

I'm not a big fan of Broadway enterainment, but this actually sounds interesting. Plus, it's Spider-Man, and I'm down for anything Spidey related.

This is clearly an attempt at a family friendly musical. It may well be a masterstroke. I cite "Lion King" as an example. Support this venture as that "buck" referred to in earlier comments is exactly what Marvel needs to fund it's own movies. Now there's a good cause!!!

Hollywood has taken Spiderman, put him in a pink tootoo(spell?), and forced him to sing...did I mention the glitter? Before you know it they'll have Thor playing the lead in High School Musical 4: RAGNIROK.

I heard rumours and speculation (not from Sam Raimi),that some scenes in Spiderman 4 are going to be shot in Africa for Kraven's introduction...From the gorgeous wilds of Africa to the stinking sewers of New York City...God Bless America.
