UPDATE: Sony Going with a New Spider-Man?
May 28, 2008
UPDATE: Sony Pictures tells us that there is no truth to the rumor that the studio is looking to replace Tobey Maguire in the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man in future "Spider-Man" movies.
Last week, it was rumored that Sony Pictures is looking to shoot Spider-Man 4 and Spider-Man 5 at the same time using a script by James Vanderbilt that spans the two films. While that hasn't been confirmed, Latino Review added its own rumor... that Peter Parker/Spider-Man may get recast for the films.
Who do they say top the producers' list for the role? Patrick Fugit and Michael Angarano. More details here!

Thank goodness. I hope they reboot the franchise, maybe make it part of the Marvel Studios Universe. Having two films would allow the writers time to establish the new continuity. I would personally like to see a story starting several years into Spider-man's career, perhaps with some interaction with other characters from the Marvel Studios Universe (Iron Man, Hulk or Nick Fury perhaps).

I personally wouldn't mind a retooling of the series. The last one was kind of a let down to me. As everyone would agree Venom deserved his own movie with Spider-Man. Oh well maybe I'm too easily bored with things.

I don't believe any of this nonsense . I'll wait until this officially confirmed .

Hey, I know a lot of people hated Spider-Man 3, but that's no reason to try and "reboot" the franchise. Not to mention this would be a HHHHUUUUGGGGEEEEE financial disaster. You may not like Maguire or any other cast or crew members, but through 3 movies, audiences have given an emotional investment into them. Throwing a new guy in there is setting yourself up for a huge bomb, no matter how many fanboys show up opening weekend.

I'd go with Patrick Fugit. But, if I was really calling the shots, Tobey Mcguire wouldn't be replaced at all. Ever! This guy is Spider-Man/Peter Parker. Tobey is perfect casting. . .

Personally i would have to see a reboot/retooling of spider-man that would be a terrible thing to do. I would like to see the raimi universe continue. I would like toby to stay but if he doesnt want to i hope they get someone who atless look simular to him and all that like Jake Gyllenhaal.

NO!
Tobey needs to stay.

I am fine with a whole new cast at this point. I never thought Kirsten Dunst was well cast and the leads whinning during the press coverage was annoying. Give the roles to some one who will appreciate it.

We don't need a retooling, do we? Very little in the Raimi films contradict any other Marvel Universe films....why does it have to be rebooted? Nothing in the Raimi films suggested that Iron Man, the Hulk and other Marvel Heroes couldn't also be present, right? Just add on to what's already been established!

YES REBOOT THE SERIES! I WOULD LOVE THAT. AFTER THE CRAP FEST SPIDEY 3, WE NEED NEW BLOOD IN SPIDER-MAN!!!

They both look more like Tobey than Peter from the comics.

Er.. Patrick Fugit, alright

Yea it would be silly to really reboot/retell spider-man we dont see to see reboot for spider-man his origin was good and the raimi universe is good too. Yes sm3 wasnt the best but you can easily continue off from that. As i said if Toby doesnt stay or they do want to recast i would rather have some one who atless is simular looking to him like i said in above post like Jake Gyllenhaal who was at the time sm2 was to start going to take over if toby didnt heal from his back injury from the horse film he did.

I don't think it's about rebooting anything--just givin' it some fresh air..

Although there were many flaws with Spider-Man 3, Raimi has done a brilliant job on the franchise as a whole (he also made Evil Dead 2, Darkman, Army of Darkness). I would agree a "new" director is required.
Hopefully, they will film Spider-man 4 and 5 back to back and keep Tobey Maguire & Kirsten Dunst.

Everyone said the same about Batman & look how well the story played out. This time they can make the movie better who knows.

Yeah the last spiderman was terrible, maybe they should do a whole new cast and director. Im a Sam raimi fan, but maybe a whole new perspective can give spiderman new life. Hopefully Spiderman 4&5 has to do with the whole Sinister Six series as rumored. Spiderman 3 was just bad, really, sandman as the main villain and Venom is only in the last half hour of the movie. That was a major mistake. Then it seemed like there was way to much background stories on everyone, and not the fun action we came to love. Did we really need to know Harry's, Marry Jane's, Eddi's, Flynt's background. little information would be fine but when you strecth it out through the whole movie it just seemed like when is Spiderman gooing to do something besides dance in his emo outfit. First two were great but the last was just a disapoinment. Heres to a fresh new start.

Yea hopefully they dont decide to reboot/retool the spider-man film universe i would like to see the raimi universe continue and all that. If raimi doesnt return atless get someone who will have a simular style and keep the feel the same. We dont want to see something that happened with batman from being dark and gothic in b89/BR to campy mess of BF/B&R. Personally i would like as i said for toby to remain. Aless keep toby, JJ actor, Robertson actor, aunt may actress, and connors actor. If any one to recast it should be mj.
