No Sin City Sequel for Mickey Rourke?
Source:Edward Douglas
December 7, 2008

A couple days ago, MTV's Splash Page chatted up actor Mickey Rourke at a party for Fox Seachlight and the results of that discussion (which you can read here) seemed to indicate that both Frank Miller and Mickey were ready to go on the long-delayed Sin City 2.

At the junket for Darren Aronofsky's The Wrestler in which Rourke gives a heartbreaking performance as Randy "The Ram" Robinson, a has-been wrestler trying to go out in a blaze of glory, he told ComingSoon.net/Superhero Hype! that he's not as gung-ho about returning to play Marv as he might have been last week.

"No, I'm not interested in that right now. That's not a reality right now. It's pissing in the wind," Rourke admitted. "There's different factions going different directions there. I don't know. That's three hours of make up and I'm claustrophobic, so I'm going to have to work something out."

Who knows how much of a role Marv would have played in the sequel considering that it was to be based around the mini-series "A Dame to Kill For" but Marv was always kind of in the background even in the stories that didn't feature him, so hopefully, they can work things out.

In the meantime, Rourke told us he was really digging the movie he was currently working on, 13, Gela Babluani‘s remake of his own French film 13 Tzameti, but he told us that the character he plays is a new one not in the original movie.

Check ComingSoon.net in the next couple weeks for a full interview with Rourke talking about The Wrestler, which is released in select cities on December 17.

as upsetting as it sounds, i understand where he's coming from. they've been jerking him around on this for awhile now and, as a man looking to re-establish his carrier, their is no way he can just stand around and wait for them to pick up the slack.

Smart move.

How long have they been talking about sin city 2 now? Its been delayed so long its looking more likely that either it wont get made, or miller will go straight into directing it as god knows after the spirit, he wont get a job on anyone else's intellectual property.

"considering that it was to be based around the mini-series "The Dame Wore Red" "

Um... "A Dame To Kill For" I assume is what that's meant to say.

NOOOO I want him to cme back for this so bad. THAT and I don't want Angelina to play Ava in A Dame To Kill For either. Anyone but her. She's a good actress and all but I just don't like her and I don't want her in the Sin City movies because the books are at the top of my list and I don't want her in there ruining it for ME personally. Mickey Rourke though not in it sucks big time. He has such a wicked scene with Dwight in that particular book.

Duh.. thanks hollywood... I don't know where I keep coming up with that alternative title... completely mind fart.

Posted by: hollywood690 on December 7, 2008 at 17:49:10

HA No worries, I had to double take that because I've made the same mistake several times.

Posted by: EDouglasCS on December 7, 2008 at 17:55:12

It's my favorite Sin City story, too... I just remember those bright red colors of Lynn Varley and that title just seems to fit better. :)

Posted by: better dude on December 7, 2008 at 18:06:50

Rourke should have been the Punisher. There, I said it.

Posted by: NOT A TUMOR on December 7, 2008 at 18:16:56

Crap!

He made Marv.

Now what?

Posted by: theBoondogsaint on December 7, 2008 at 18:20:24

Man.

That really sucks!

I love Marv! He made the first movie and I loved him in the series.

I can see where Rourke is coming from and can't really blame him, but its just a shame that he won't be in the film!

In response to "better dude" anyone coulda been the punisher, but with a script like that it wouldn't have mattered.

Sin City is the only movie I've ever wished I would've walked out on. Artistically beautiful but morally corrupt and degenerate. I understand and appreciate noir but Sin City was simply filth disguised as art. I will not be seeing any sequel and will most likely boycott The Spirit because of the Frank Miller association.

Posted by: mel on December 7, 2008 at 18:32:18

Is Clive Owen gonna be in it? Isn't the story about his character? Anyway, Marv was definitely the best part of Sin City. I bet this Rourk bulls#1+ is just about the money and contract negotiations.

Might as well not even make the movie, oh well tdk comes out Tuesday!!!!

Ever think of going into advertising?

Good point Mel. Mickey is being groomed for an Oscar. Why do something as "crass" as SC2?

I have to admit, JimmyB makes a good point to...

I mean "too."

And my first sentence was meant to be read with a sarcastic tone.

I hope he just means like there gonna do the one with Johnny Depp first Hell and Back and not he won't come back or that his just pissed its taking so long to get made. Please don't do it without him. He made Sin City great!

It`s too bad.Mickey Rourke was pefect as Marv the loveable barbarian brute who as the story goes wasn`t crazy,he was just born in the wrong century.Although at this point Mickey Rourke`s face is begining to resemble that of Marv`s(and Carrottop`s) more and more.In Frank Miller`s world the heroes are never what could be considered handsome or pretty-boy types they`re always the tough hardened bruisers who
aren`t afraid to fight back.Like I said before it`s too bad Rourke won`t be coming back. And to Better Dude``s post I could`ve seen Mickey Rourke as The Punisher if we were talking about the young bad-ass Mickey Rourke from the 1980`s.But,now due to the excessive plastic surgery I just couldn`t see it.

Ray Stevenson is the right man to portray Punisher for Punisher:War Zone. And I respectfully disagree with theBoondogsaint`s post saying that anyone could play The Punisher.Just like any other role for a Superhero movie,it takes a certain type of actor to play a certain type of character. And Ray Stevenson fit the role of the battle-hardened violent vigilante called The Punisher, personally I never saw Dolph Lundgren or Thomas Jane as the true Punisher.I think because of Lundgren and Jane as well crtics who just didn`t like War Zone( and I`m obviously not one of those critics)-the thought that anyone could be Punisher has floated around, even though it`s not true.
Mickey Rourke`s a talented actor and I don`t know if he ever got enough credit for that because of his wild-man reputation.
Sin City 2 has been delayed for a while now. After watching the first one I think it goes without saying that Frank Miller is a very talented and very disturbed individual(but than a lot of visionaries usually are).

Dang. Mickey Rourke was great in Sin City and totally brought that character to life. It's definitely a bumper to hear he's not interested.

Posted by: nelson on December 7, 2008 at 20:56:05

is Hartnett's character more involved i was always intrigued by him in the first film never read books does he play any big part

If Rourke isnt doing Marv, then my interest takes a huge drop. They already did the better Sin City stories in the first movie, Hard Goodbye and Yellow Bastard. The Gail and Miho stuff is fine (especially with the lovely casting they had for them) but I'm not a fan of the Dwight stories, although Family Values is fun for the Miho carnage. Big NO on Jolie playing Ava too. And Hell and Back is just awful, so dont even bother with that one.

Posted by: mojojackson on December 7, 2008 at 23:23:06

It's a major disappointment that Rourke may not be Marv in SC2, but there is one (and only one) other actor who could pull it off, and that's Ron Perlman. If both Rourke and Perlman turn it down, they should let sleeping dogs lie ad forget SC2.

Posted by: etrigan69 on December 7, 2008 at 23:36:51

He'll change his mind. Yeah, the make up sucks but he should be able to shoot his parts in a couple of days or so. In fact, if Robert and Frank are smart they could just shoot him for the other cameos he makes in some of the other stories. Plus they could do one of the Marv shorts to keep him interested.

If they do it he will probably be there. Worse comes to worse thwy could make someone up to look just like him anyway......

I couldn't have put it better. Luckily I didn't watch it in the cinema... but still, I wish I would've just pressed eject on the remote shortly into the film when I actually felt what was previously described by deadsquirreldelta.

I saw Sin City on TV, and I wondered what all the fuss was about. I thought I was watching some weird episode of Moonlighting where they tried to do it in black and white.
