Transformers 2 and Justice League Filming Updates
February 28, 2008

Variety has published an in-depth article talking about how a posssible Screen Actors Guild (SAG) strike could affect movie productions starting soon. The trade says Hollywood studios are refusing to schedule new start dates on films that can't complete shooting by June 30.

Transformers 2 director Michael Bay said the labor cloud has made the process harder, but not impossible as he tries to keep the film on track for an early June start in order to make its scheduled June 26, 2009 release date.

"If there is a strike, we shut down, but shutting down isn't that big a deal," Bay told the trade. "You make accommodations, you make a deal with vending houses on equipment and on the stages where you are shooting. You hope for the best, but you can't be incapacitated by the possibility that there will be a strike. We've got to get this town back to work. I can't imagine anyone wants another strike, we're all tired. Hopefully clearer heads will prevail."

Bay said that the sequel is still recovering from the writers strike, and that he's playing catch-up after getting back his trio of writers, Ehren Kruger, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci.

"They did a detailed outline before the writer's strike, and now they are in Michael Bay jail, holed up in a hotel and working feverishly," Bay said. "We're paying for a beautiful suite and they are getting a lot of work done. Hiring three writers was unusual, but it has been a godsend in getting us to where we need to be. Somehow you find a way to get it done."

Warner Bros. is hoping for director George Miller to begin filming superhero extravaganza Justice League in mid-July for a 2009 release. The project has been off-and-on in the last several months, as the script needed work. The minute the strike was over, scribes Kiernan and Michele Mulroney began rewriting the script. The studio is hoping to get a draft in the next six weeks.

Please, for the love of all that is holy, do not make the Justice League movie now!

Posted by: hmmmm on February 28, 2008 at 04:03:40

a SAG strike would be the best thing to happen to this JL "movie"

Posted by: Matti Simsson on February 28, 2008 at 04:08:32

why not? it's not the end of the world!

Posted by: xagonyxscenex on February 28, 2008 at 04:20:46

Whats with all the idiots yelling not to make a Justice League movie. You all are ****in retarded. I'd rather them try and make one, then them not make one at all. You'd think everyone would feel the same way. Although the band wagon that you kids jumped into shines bright. I guess the new cool thing to do instead of bashing Michael Bay for making a kick ass movie, is to yell from the mountain tops that Justice League shouldn't be made. Give me a break. A ridiculous vocal minority.

I agree with nick, they should wait a bit to make this film and concentrate on solo movies first!

Posted by: Andy114425 on February 28, 2008 at 05:08:49

the justice league just wont work as a GOOD superhero movie: not enough time to get a care for each member, batman and superman (the two most iconic members) both already have well established fan bases for their own movies so all the responses will likely be "so-and-so's batman just sucks compared to bale's", plus the idead is just to cartoony for a live action movie all the superheros catching up to hang out and fight crime together works in comics and tv series but seriously think about it portrayed with real people. Seriously...

like what marvel is doing with the avengers ;)

Posted by: Therefore I Am on February 28, 2008 at 05:24:56

Marvel is doing it differently, not only do they have more established characters already for the avengers, but they are waiting till the rest of them have their own individual movies first. not only that, they are hoping to use the same actors from the films to portray the characters in the avengers movie. and to top it off, it wont be a bewulf mo-cap cgi film like the justice league is. it will be full live action goodness. when you rush something like that you get whats happening with the JLA movie. but with patience, something like the Avengers happens, and it will be GOOD.

I agree with xagonyxscenex.Whats wrong with all those idiots yelling not to make the JLA movie?.Im sure they are just a minority of the fans. You seem to forget, retarded morons, that the movie is in the hands of George Miller,a very good director, with WETA F/X on board.
The JLA is gonna be awesome.Much better than Superman Returns.

Posted by: batboy999 on February 28, 2008 at 05:47:35

OK. here it is. one crappy movie after another with these comic stories. the last good superhero movie was batman begins. they need to ditch Justice League, make green lantern and the flash, and over at marvel, make a freaking secret wars movie so you can have the whole marvel universe fight it out once and for all so we don't have to sit through another ghost rider, or dare i say, spider-man 3. and none of this jack black as green hornet talk, that's just ludicrous.

I think the main reason Warners is making the JLA film is so they can spin off individual characters in to their own films which isn't a bad thing being as they dont seem to be able to get their **** together and do the film's regardless of JLA.
I mean look how long Superman was in the works at Warners and then they eventually came out with Singer's Pile of kak, Wonder Woman has been in Deveopment hell for ages and even some of the lesser characters like Flash and GL have been stuck on the back burner for a while now.
Meanwhile Marvel are bringing loads of characters to the big screen (not all of the them successfully I might add.)
Being as Miller is in control of this film I dont think it's gonna be complete ****e and if it get's Warners Ass in to gear to get spin off's going that carn't be a bad thing, Right!?

Posted by: David on February 28, 2008 at 06:27:29

I agree with a lot of whats being said on all sides of this discussion.

While most superhero movies have come off as tripe, and money making ventures for studios, i think that Marvels approach is working well, the fact that they are making their products into movies their way without big 4 studio involvement says to me they wanna do this **** right.

On the other side of the coin tho is the JL movie, and while i dont entirely agree with whats going on, i do believe that if it doest get done, China will become officially democratic, and I will have kids, so doing one now in this way may not be the best way, but a way that it will get the big screen.

George, you better do this right. your an Aussie, for **** sake don't disgrace us please.

ok soooo question???? DOES ANY ONE KNOW FOR SURE weather or not JL is going to be beowoulf style cgi stuff of if its gonna be live action im hearing both some one please clear it up for me ......

Posted by: the_ddb on February 28, 2008 at 07:20:54

from all that i've read it's live action...ya know...i hope they make it. as long as you have a good story and atleast the things that made these lesser known characters who they are then go for it. i know a lot of people care about these established actors in the series but alot of people thought anyone other than kevin conroy doing the voice of batman would be terrible and i think not only the new "the batman" is good (with a few joker like exceptions) but jeremy sisto's portrayal worked out great. many have played batman and superman, and more than likely many will. bale, reeve, routhe...these guys will not be the end all of batman and superman and if they are...what the hell's the point of going on anymore?

Posted by: Bo on February 28, 2008 at 07:48:43

Now everybody is looking at George Miller for Happy Feet. The man directed some good movies...The Mad Max series! We know that was action oriented and did very well. Warners do not want another Batman and Robin. Let's give this time and see what they will bring to the table. I have seen many people on the boards here complain about Routh as Superman, now they praise him and the same as Ledger as the Joker. I believe this film could be launching pad for Green Lantern, Flash, Wonder Woman, even other leaguers such as Aquaman and Martian Manhunter if the audience responds well to these characters.

**** JLA!!!!!

F@ck JLA!!!

Posted by: Tony on February 28, 2008 at 08:20:10

Justice League will not be a push-over. They have ILM (Industrial Light & Magic) doing the CGI. People already know the origins of Superman and Batman so they could do more story on Wonderwoman, Green lantern, Martian Manhunter, etc. N' they have a well-established director, George Miller. I don't think we'll be dissappointed. Plus they could do origin movies of individual characters but in a different time frame. Justice League could well take place in the future. N' in that case then Batman & Superman would be the veterans since they have the younger versions in films to date, n' could have younger versions of the other JLA members be in this movie.

I'm excited about JLA. Because it represents an awesome oppurtunity. I don't agree that you should have to introduce all the characters in their own movies first. I'm not convinced some of these characters DESERVE their own movie. Green Lantern works great on the team, but on his own? Meh. Not so interesting.

The other thing is, most people know (even if it's just vaguely) who all these characters are. And how difficult would it be to introduce them in a movie? You could easily have them all introduced in the first ten minutes and spend the rest of the movie telling the story -- a story that would allow for more exploration of their characters. Go watch almost any episode of the JLA or JLU to see what I'm talking about. Timm & Company found a way to tell entire stories in twenty minutes that often had to also introduce brand new characters. It can be done. It can be done well. And if this movie does well, then there's a much better chance you'll get your Wonder Woman, Flash, and Green Lantern movies.

How people can still want this movie made in it's current state is beyond me. You have a director who has done a serious action movie since the mid 80's. You have a cast that looks like something from the WB's fall line of teen drama shows and you have a rumored script that takes less than a quarter of the story of a major crossover that was done 3 years ago and pits a villain no one except current DC readers know about against what should be the largest group of heroes assembled. And you want this film made? Do we really need another Catwoman or Batman and Robin on our hands? Come on people I want to see a Justice league movie as much as the next guy but this won't be a Justice League movie, it'll crap on large screen. If you want the movie so badly you should have the patience to wait til it's done right, not done quickly.

soo stupid doing justice league now. why you can't wait until all members have their solo movies, except Wonder Woman, that would be a tired one. But y'all know for the studio's it's all about the money baby. If i could make it or have the responsibility, i would do it like a really big full animation Movie soo you don't have to worry about the cast.

I have no problems about the JLA film apart from the "continuity problems" and too many actors playing Batman & Superman. Another set of actors playing Batman (less than a year after Dark Knight) and Superman (3 actors inc. Welling and Routh).

Also, kids watching "Superman Returns" will now realise what a heartless bastard he is i.e. got Lois Lane pregnant and does not pay for child support ! To avoid paying for childcare, he changes into a different actor and joins the JLA !!!

I Have Been Wanting For A JLA Movie A Long Time And It Dosn't Bother Me If They Do It Now Or Some Other Time Besides The Could Do The Film And Have The Flash,Wonder Woman,Green Lantern Films As A Prequel Like There Solo films Take Place A Few Years Before JLA And Still Do The Justice Leagie Of America Film Now.

It's hard for me to get behind this one. The only movie I can think of where they tried to introduce this many new characters to the screen was Spider-man 3. I guess you could count Transformers, but that was even more childish, shallow, and substanceless.
X-men is a good example of introducing a team well...but that works a tad differently because they all have the same origin. Same with the FF.
As far as casting goes, well I thought Routh looked to young to be superman as he was. It's SuperMAN not Super young man. Not that the movie was bad itself... just very standard for superman. No surprises. Lex threatens world with Kryptonite. Yawn. But then I guess thats the problem when you have a character who can do anything. except for fight this green rock.

Posted by: Ivan on February 28, 2008 at 10:15:28

Listen...Like most superhero movies it all depends on the cast, not so much effects or camera angles, if they find a believable supes and batman i'd say it's a go...one thing bothers me about JL though, the storyline, when and where are they gonna set this movie, cause its success also depends on timing with other movies like superman or batman.
