Will Faran Tahir Return for Iron Man 3?
Source:Moviefone
November 17, 2009

Moviefone chatted with Faran Tahir, who played Raza in Iron Man, about possibly returning for the third installment:

Every interview asks if you'll be in 'Iron Man 3.' If that role gets confirmed, what will be better: the fact that you're in it or that you'll never again be asked if you're in it?
[Laughs] I think I'd welcome both of those. I'm happy to keep answering the question. Jon Favreau and [the producers] are not stupid. They're also listening in on all of this and wanting to get the pulse of where the audience is. But at some point, they want to introduce Mandarin into the storyline and my character, like Mandarin, was the leader of the Ten Rings. We're leaving it open because, partly, it makes good business sense for us to leave a little bit of uncertainty for people to speculate on.

Has Jon even thought about 'Iron Man 3' or is he just focused on the sequel?
He has known for a long time where he wants to take it and I don't want to speak for him, but my feeling is that the second movie didn't want to just follow a singular storyline. They wanted to expand the characters to show that it's not a linear saga like 'Lord of the Rings.' There's a linkage somewhere in there, but the big idea is to do at least one more 'Iron Man' movie and then go into 'The Avengers.'

has anybody heard anything about the villain for the avengers movie? Wasn't Ultron a big villain in the comics? If he's not the villain in The Avengers, I think he'd make an awesome villain for Iron Man 3.

Posted by: Badger on November 18, 2009 at 00:05:55

We never see him get killed in the first Iron Man, only that Obidiah disables him with the hypersonics, just as he did to Tony. It wasn't fatal, Tony was dying because the battery was taken out of his chest. Sure, the clean-up crew were supposed to eliminate the Ten Rings, but perhaps they didn't think to shoot the guy laying in the dirt with blood oozing from his ears. Whether Faran Tahir is in or not, I'm ready for Mandarin to make an appearance.

If you think about it, the avengers movie has the makings of an all out war to save the entire universe. I mean why would they be recruiting so many high level people unless ALL of them combined was possibly going to be enough...

Think about what could be the biggest threat to this planet and universe that the Avengers might be able to beat back and I bet ANYTHING you will find your answer there...

Also, I bet we see Raza in like a few flashbacks but I also bet Mandarin will be chief villain in 3.

HOLD ON!

I thought he was shot off screen by Stane's men?

And does anyone really think that Raza is Mandarin himself? Think about the Ducard/Ras decoy plot point in "Batman Begins." What if Raza "died" by Stane's men, but then was resurrected by nearby buried rings or some crap like that? Yeah, I can see it happening.

Nevermind, that was a stupid idea.

I believe the 10 rings organization led by Raza was jus one gang of terrorists part of a whole league operating worldwide and controlled by this mysterious MANDARIN !...who shall reveal himself in Iron Man 3..I jus hope its more to hocus pocus magic vs tech instead of some all powerful leader with 10 captain planet rings !

i think ultron would be an awesome bad guy for the films be it avengers or iron man
but
ultron was created by hank pym who i'm sure you all know was ant man.
edgar wright is making an ant man film so i'm guessing that ultron would have something to do with that or at least be in a sequel.
i think the villain for the avengers should be the skrulls.
the kree - skrull war would be awesome and introduce mar vell.
and also what do people think to michael fassbender playing namor.
i think he's perfect.

Favreau said that we've already seen The Mandarin in the first movie, and that we're likely to hear of him in the second.

My bet is that it is Raza, and in IM2 Tony may find pictures of him that link him to terrorist activity or something of the sort, and question the possibility since he himself thought that Iron Man (Mark-I) took care of him

But I really like that guy. I do hope he comes back for another flick. He had a the style of a cool villain, slick, intimidating.

Or maybe our Mandarin is somebody completely different. Someone minor, maybe one of the people in the village Tony saved.

Though we never did see Raza die at the hands of Stane's men. Its possible he paid them off, or killed them himself... What is impossible is that if he was killed, the man was resurrected by the rings. I'm fairly certain, the point of these movies are that everything is going to have a technological and scientific motif. Resurrection is just not going to happen, and as for The Mandarin being in control of the rings... When the time comes to explain it, the rings he controls is going to be the terrorist sect, and the name was chosen due to a legend.

Sorry, no supernatural in these flicks, and certainly no Fing-Fang-Foom

@Mr. Underhill

Tom Hiddleston has announced that he'll be in the Avengers movie, and since he's going to be Loki in Thor, I imagine it's safe to say he'll be playing him in the Avengers as well so Loki will be at least one of the villians.

Everything has been quiet on the IM2 front for a while. Wish there were more updates on that.

There shouldn't be any limits on how many hero movies there are in a series. James Bond is a great example on how timeless a character can be if the story is strong and the people involved with the project have talent. Batman is another where we had the pleasure of Nolan's version of the character and the stories he wants to portray. Tim Burton had a nice dark version as well before some idiots took over Batman 3 & 4 and made it campy. As long as you do not insult your audiences intelligence and integrity then you may be able to pull of a successful and long franchise. I am sure many years later there will be another director and actor who take on the Iron Man story, but so far this version is golden and the staple. (Just like Connery as the best Bond of them all).

Mandarin will make an appearance in IM2, they will probably introduce him in a surprise cliffhanger ending.....

Posted by: Spidey on November 18, 2009 at 21:34:16

Okay: Mandarin in Iron Man 3 makes sense, but for the sake of the viewers: RE-CAST THE ACTOR!!! He was no where near good enough for that small role, let alone the role of a main villain.
