Iron Man 2 Set Visit Preview

"I am Iron Man."

With those words at the end of the 2008 summer hit Iron Man, Tony Stark's future was irrevocably about to change. Moviegoers will find out how on May 7, 2010 when Iron Man 2 blasts onto the screen with plenty of familiar faces and a few new ones. Oh, did you doubt a sequel was coming? With an estimated $582 million worldwide box office gross, Iron Man secured the Marvel character's place as a ripe A-list property. Certainly, just reward for a film with a charismatic lead (embodied by Robert Downey Jr.), smart script and some pretty stellar FX.

With Iron Man 2, returning director Jon Favreau is fixing to recapture that first film's charm and deliver a transcendent superhero sequel. At Favreau's side is writer Justin Theroux, taking a crack at the genre for the first time, and returning cast members Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow and Samuel Jackson. Don Cheadle is stepping in as Rhodes this time (a role formerly played by Terrence Howard) and on the "heavy" side you've got Mickey Rourke as "Whiplash" and Sam Rockwell as industrialist Justin Hammer. For added sex appeal, they're throwing in Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow.

Is Favreau falling into the trap of adding too many elements to his once proven winning equation? That's just one question Superhero Hype! had in mind when we ventured down to Manhattan Beach where we found Favreau and company back on the soundstage and in Tony Stark's lab for a set visit. While there, we toured the remodeled lab, caught a few glimpses of some very interesting--and revealing--props and drooled over the new Iron Man suit. We also got a chance to speak with Favreau, Downey Jr. and Marvel's Kevin Feige (the producer) about Stark's latest adventure and the challenges he faces.

We'd love to tell you more, however, we have to remain tight-lipped for now. Simply know Favreau is piecing together what sounds like a layered, larger sequel that's steering Stark in the right emotional direction with a few surprises in store for the fans. Look for a full set report next month! In the meantime, "keep the skies clear," more Iron Man is on the way.

set preview that doesn't preview anything. all this said was "trust us, we saw things." yeah, good for you, but it's not news to us if you don't share anything. useless article.

Looking forward to the report, this film is looking incredible, can,t wait.

Posted by: Bigfoot on June 4, 2009 at 15:54:51

Hey, does anyone know how to pronounce Kevin "Feige" last name? Every time I read that name it frustrates me!!

Posted by: Fanboiii on June 4, 2009 at 15:55:13

Referring to Scarlett Johansson/Black Widow as "added sex appeal" is totally sexist. What about Mickey Rourke or Don Cheadle? Or does being a female only make you a sex symbol? Ryan Rotten indeed.

Looking forward to this 2010 film more than any other at the moment. But yeah, I'm kind of with Fanboiii. This feels like a teaser of a teaser of a teaser. "Here's a whole bunch of information you already know followed by us telling you that information you don't know yet will come around one day."

I just hope the film doesn't suffered with adding too much elements in it, just as this report said. Many super-hero movies suffered from it just like Spider-Man 3, X-Men 3 ao.

@Bigfoot

Sound it out, it's FEEGE. sounds like feet but with a G at the end that sounds like a J.

I want Hawkeye.

"Feege" Ok. Thanks, Landfill.

You're welcome Bigfoot.

First! Am I cool now?

Posted by: CyberViking2000 on June 4, 2009 at 16:49:19

Kevin Feige's last name should be pronounced like "page" but with an "f" instead of a "p". Other examples to support this are "weight" and "eight". There is an exception where "height" sounds like it's with just an "i" instead of an "a" sound. But even then, an "e" sound isn't in their company.

"smart script"

I stopped reading here. The first flick was trying to be many things, but "smart" was definitely not one of those. It was 2 hours of fun, silly action with a hammy cast. Nothing more.

I read these post and boy am I amazed at all the professional movie critics. I am sure most who post havent written or directed any movies but based on some of the critical opinions thats given by them it makes me curious to see how some of these movie wizards would direct the next Iron Man sequel, please until you have a proven track record of great movies you've written or directed these negative remarks are just like Anus everyones got one but they all stink. No one has to like anything they dont want but until you take to the directors or writers chair you would never understand the difficulties asscociated with movie making. If 1000 people like a movie you can find 10,000 more who will hate it no matter how good or bad it is, thats just opinion and remember everyones got one.

"...larger sequel that's steering Stark in the right emotional direction." That better be alcohol! Awesome. Favs is the best. That glove bit on Fallon was so cool.

Can't wait to see what the Crimson Dynamo armor is going to look like!
