Massive Set Being Built for Iron Man 2
Source:Splash News

A massive construction project at the foot of the Sepulveda Dam in L.A. has been arousing curiosity among motorists driving on the 101 Ventura Freeway in the San Fernando Valley for the past week. A "Rasputin" sign hangs at the entrance to the dam. The project, it turns out, is a set for Iron Man 2. We have a pretty good idea what they are building, but we won't spoil it here. Check out the photos below!

Jon Favreau is directing the May 7, 2010 sequel, starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Jon Favreau, Mickey Rourke, Sam Rockwell, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Garry Shandling, John Slattery, Kate Mara and Clark Gregg.

awesome, I wonder what they are gonna do with this set, hopefully an action scene between Ironman and Whiplash

It's a couple trailers and what looks like dry wall...

If you're makin' a movie, you gotta have a set. :( No big.

The Avengers mansion?

Posted by: WHat is it? on May 23, 2009 at 02:45:27

What can it be?

It's obviously either the docks, or perhaps going to be a set for a large cargo ship.

The ship seems more likely due to the cargo containers, and what looks like the makings of a large set of cargo doors.

LOL, I passed by that area yesterday :p

I'm wondering if there's any significance to the code term "Rasputin" and the fact that Mickey Rourke plays a Russian villain. Could it be that Rourke's character, be it Whiplash or Crimson Dynamo, is very hard to kill in this movie?

That is a big set. I never would have thought of using shipping containers to hold up a wall.

Posted by: Mayatiz on May 23, 2009 at 03:52:32

it's a set for Thor! LOL!

Posted by: ProdigalSon on May 23, 2009 at 04:16:39

i figure it's gonna be either Stark Enterprises or Avengers Mansion!!!

Posted by: JLanphear on May 23, 2009 at 04:31:02

My bad, the containers ARE being used to hold up the wall, you're correct.

I doubt that Avengers Mansion would be introduced already. HIGHLY doubt it. Why would they introduce the superhero teams HQ when the superhero team themselves haven't been established? Seems strange. A new wing of Stark seems more likely.

I just want to say I hate you people that claim "first" or "fourth" on these things. Your lives are pointless.

SHIELD Helicarrier?

Posted by: Supes05 on May 23, 2009 at 05:59:21

Has anyone thought that maybe this set is going to be a SHIELD Hellicarrier?

Posted by: Spider-Man on May 23, 2009 at 06:03:49

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I know & was with the guy who shot these photos yesterday. I'm not too sure either what this set might actually be the setting of in the movie, but I just wanted to clear something up about the cargo containers & the wall it supports. I heard that as soon as they complete the construction of the giant wall, they're going to paint it green to obviously serve as a digital backdrop for whatever Favreau planned this set to be of. So it's obviously gonna be something that's huge, but can't physically be constructed maybe. I just hope that helps the fans of the film or whoever is trying to figure out what the set could possibly be of.

I think it's a movie set of some kind.

Posted by: Leo Jussila on May 23, 2009 at 07:35:06

I also thought of the Helicarrier.

THAT WOULD BE AAAAWSOME! :D

Posted by: Skid on May 23, 2009 at 08:52:16

why do you people get so excited over a movie set. Jesarse, grow some nuts !!!!!!!

Posted by: Jello man on May 23, 2009 at 10:45:27

im thinking ... his rivals mansion or his rivals industry building in Russia. those look like steps of some sort at the bottom of the last shot.

Posted by: chris on May 23, 2009 at 10:55:06

well rasputin was some kind of russian sorcerer wasn't he?so im thinking since the movie villians are russian it has something to do with the villain.

don't know Crymson Dynamo should own Iron Man then get blow up by a missile

Posted by: Crazyish on May 23, 2009 at 11:40:12

as soon as i saw it the helicarrier popped into my head!!!!

Posted by: SmokinBandit on May 23, 2009 at 12:05:20

Fingers crossed for the shield helicarier...or maybe since the codename "Rasputin" Maybe its going to be either where Crimson Dynamo and Ironman fight...or maybe where Dynamo is made...But S.H.I.E.L.D Hellicarrier would be awesome.

All the kids saying avengers manshion should know that the avengers HQ is just one of Tonys manshions in the comics...I doubt they would build a set when there are a ton of great real places they could do that, just like the Xavier institute....

Im betting on a big fight scene set IMO.
