Mickey Rourke Not Doing Iron Man 2?
Source:New York Magazine
February 18, 2009

Mickey Rourke has told New York Magazine that it's looking like he won't be playing the villain in Iron Man 2:

But so what if ICM's David Unger doesn't look good in a dress — at least he's battling Marvel for a bigger paycheck for Rourke for his rumored role as a villain in Iron Man 2, right? "Right now, we're not doing Iron Man 2," Rourke told us grimly.

In January, the news broke that Marvel had offered the award-winning "Wrestler" star just $250,000 to play a villain in the sequel. Perhaps further negotiations didn't go so well? Also, Rourke is now firmly attached to star in Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables, which starts shooting shortly and might interfere with the Iron Man 2 shoot.

Stay tuned for possibly more on this...

Well that sucks

like no one saw this coming

Posted by: Andrew on February 18, 2009 at 14:12:32

Thats why they replaced Howard. They are trying their best to make Iron Man 2 on the cheap. Which means it will probably suck.

Well we all knew that is not gonna happen after all. I feel that Iron Man 2 is DOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMED!!!

Looks like this movie has lost anyone and everyone attached to it! This really sucks since this was one of the best movies last summer. Hey if they need someone to fill a role, i'll work for 250,000!

seems like everyone they want is attached to other films already. I hope they find someone good soon since filming starts soon

Marvel is taking consideration of our current recession. Pinching all the pennies they can.

Geesh, Marvel knows this is going to make money! I don't know why they need to be greedy at this point? Rourke = more people in theater seats plus he would have brought a certain bad assery(tm) to the villian role that was lacking in the first one.

Posted by: regwec on February 18, 2009 at 14:16:43

Of course not. He's going to be Riddler in Batman 3.

Posted by: yeh on February 18, 2009 at 14:19:05

why cant he be crimson dynamo????????

iron man franchise not lookin good soo far.....

It does say 'Right now' they're not which suggests they're open to negotiation. Marvel really should make a move to secure Rourke or at least Samuel L Jackson soon because it would display some commitment to quality (or continuity). All speculation about casting and pay is just hurting the films prospects and considering the good will earned off the first that's a shame. Anyone else wondering if the reason the studio agreed on Downey Jr was because they knew they could get him cheap?

That said I do wonder how often this kind of thing goes on when trying to get a film together but isn't normally reported. It could be that Marvel Studios aren't as savvy as the more established studios when it comes to keeping these things quiet.

Oh BOO HOO!

So... someone else is going to be the voice inside an armored suit! Rourke is hardly irreplaceable.

And now, everyone is going to start complaining about Marvel being "greedy" and offer "better" suggestions for a salary. After all, we're all experts, right?

what is with Iron Man 2 shedding actors, I had figured it would be quite safe, look at how Spiderman kept its cast together over the first 3 movies, I figured Iron Man would do the same.

Marve...Marvel..Marvel...

They have a few good films under their belt...

...and more stinkers...and they now play power ball with the big boys..and looks like they are setting themselves up to loose..
If anyone can mess up a movie as bad as Marvel did Punisher War Zone...then what is to be expected.

well when comics are 3.00 a pop....it's no wonder there pinching where they can....marvel needs the money....there just going about it the wrong way....get quality actors....start out fresh with new young faces....that way you can milk them with sequels....you get more moola in the long run...and you don't scrimp on quality when it comes to getting talented actors....it's a shame comics are 3.00 bucks and up....too damn much

Austin: "Kriekey! This movie smells like ****."
Basil: "It IS ****, Austin."
Austin: "Oh, well, I guess it isn't just me then."

Well, that's lame.

After the success of the first film, why is Marvel low balling everything?

PS. John Barrowman as Cap, please!

Maybe if they get it in line quick enough, they can throw together an awesome teaser for Cap before Iron Man 2.

@ Shayera
no ..only I am the expert

$250K a slap in the face? It would take me almost 10 years to earn that same amount he'd make in under a year. Some projects can't be about the money, and even if I was used to getting 7 million per 6 month job I would consider stuping a little to get to be in a cool movie like this.

I hope that they get a good actor if Rourke cant play crimson dynamo, and I also hope that he isnt another iron monger looking charecter.
