As always, the best special effects are those which do not look like special effects at all.

Go iron man!!!

Iron Man leads the noms? Unless there's a special category for "Best unnecessary CGI hastily plastered over live-action shots" that's a travesty. That goofy ILM'd suit stuck out like a sore thumb.

"As always, the best special effects are those which do not look like special effects at all."
Which means The Dark Knight should've gotten more nominations than it did.

The Waste Allocation Load Lifter - Earth class is the best miniature ever!, I mean, effect, ?

Chris Nolan excels on relativity. The special effects in TDK as fabulous as they were; were nothing compared to the other superhero flicks of the year... so .. go suck an egg Bat Fan Boy's... Go suck an egg. We'd all like to see IM win some of theese but its got some heavy competition ... and mainstream favorites... GL Iron man.

gears of war 2 should be in there for best real time visuals in a game

It's as if everyone has forgotten The Incredible Hulk was out this year... I personally thought that the scene in the lab was pretty darn special. I guess not special enough.

Talk about the ultimate shaft, The Hulk just got it. I don't understand how some of these movies can get nominated and the Hulk not. Some of the scenes in TIH were mind-blowing (Hulk holding Betty at the college campus)

BAM, while I agree (to a degree) with your assessment, I still don't understand how Narnia, Hellboy 2 and Cloverfield beat out the Hulk. Not even acknowledged in the "outstanding animated character" category.

the suit really was the best part, as it should be. i wasn't a fan of the movie, but the suit is sweet and that's the most important part. story does not matter for IM just effects. it's along the lines of Independence Day and movies like that. plot = flan-fest (thin) but effects = $$ (the entire budget)

As much a fan of TDK and IM I am I have to admit that the best special effects of the year were in 'Benjamin Button'. I just cant tell that its a special effect, and the only reason I know it is is because I know Brad Pitt is 45 years old and like 6 feet tall. The effects are amazing so I hope it wins. (this dsnt mean TDK and IM's effects weren't great too).
Posted by: Tired on January 20, 2009 at 08:58:10
Dear Lord I am so tired of TDK. It was a good movie but it was not the end-all-be-all to movies. These people who think it should win every single award are delusional. These over the top Batfans are starting to sour the entire series for me.

I think the movie that's getting shafted the most by far is Hellboy 2. the effects in that movie were amazing. And speedracer216 is an idiot. are you saying that Iron Man had no story or not a good one...? good joke. Iron Man and Hellboy 2 should be leading the noms.

I think that TIH should have gotten at least one nomination. The part where he is protecting betty from the helicopter looks like it´s being watched in the news. I mean like you´re watching it through your own video camera.
Dark knight: Two-Face effects were great and the China takes were too.
In Hellboy II TGA, the effects of the Elemental were sick!!, and they improved th effects on Red´s red right hand.
Iron Man is the one which delivers the goods in almost all scenes.
Won´t comment on the rest, because I haven´t seen em´or just because I don´t like em´. (Cloverfield, I´m looking at you!!!

Did they forget about wanted?! Wanted had better visual effects than half of these movies combined!

Wall-E was a masterpiece.

they should redo this. hulk definately deserves A LOT of these nominations. this is so f***ed up >:(
Posted by: JAROS GETTING ANGRY!!!! on January 20, 2009 at 13:15:23
how the hell does speed racer get nominated, but not hulk?!
they should really look into what fans think, and not what they think is best. b u l l ****!
Posted by: Dan on January 20, 2009 at 15:35:51
The Incredible Hulk's visual effects were mediocre at best! You are all just a bunch of whiney Hulk fanboys.
Posted by: DEMfan on January 20, 2009 at 16:42:02
Why did TIH not get noticed? Quote, "do not look like effects at all". The Hulk's fundamental problem is that it is IMPOSSIBLE to make us believe we are watching something real, so it gets looked at as if it were a cartoon. Not a lot anyone can do about that. You'd have to put the green makeup back on Big Lou and digitize the image up to 8 feet. Hey, after two disappointing (commercially, I quite liked them both) attempts, what have they got to lose?

Where is Hancock...come on...he put a logo on the moon. Sorry, thought we were mentioning movies with special effects not on the list.
