Rourke and Rockwell are the Iron Man 2 Villains!

Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler) and Sam Rockwell (Frost/Nixon) are in talks to star as the villains in Marvel Studios' Iron Man 2, being directed by Jon Favreau from a script by Justin Theroux, according to Variety and The Hollywood Reporter.

THR says that Rourke would play a tattooed Russian heavy named Ivan who becomes a man with deadly, technologically enhanced coils. Variety adds that Rourke would play the Crimson Dynamo. "He's considered to be an evil version of Iron Man because he battles the superhero in a nuclear-powered suit of armor," says the trade.

Rockwell would play Justin Hammer, a multibillionaire businessman and a rival of industrialist Tony Stark, AKA Iron Man, being played by a returning Robert Downey Jr.

Rourke and Rockwell would be joining a cast that also includes the returning Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle, who is replacing Terrence Howard.

Another part -- one for Stark's assistant Natasha -- is still open.

The project is eyeing a spring start in Manhattan Beach. Paramount will release the movie May 7, 2010.

Rourke is playing Whiplash and Crimson Dynamo. I guess he's making up for all the years he was collecting dust on the shelf.

Whoa. That would absolutely rule if Mickey Rourke joins. 2 powerhouse actors in Downey and Rourke going at it. This movie will be EPIC.

Awesome, Mickey Rourke will fit in perfectly with the cast.. he did an amazing job in The Wrestler and I know he will bring great chemistry between Robert Downey Jr. and himself.

Think about it! Mandarin? How the heck will you make that cool in a movie? shooting lasers and **** from those rings? I find that lame for a movie. I want real fights.

Great to see Rourke join the cast, if he is playing Crimson Dynamo, he will make a nice contrast to the first films villian Iron Monger, Crimson Dynamo is much more a brawler and fits Rourkes roles of late.
Also interesting to see Justin Hammer added, the head of Roxxon Corp.
Movie is shaping up nicely.

Well it was cool they didn't pick the Mandarin, otherwise it would've been a sorta weird movie...Crimson Dynamo would've made a good choice Villain. Glad they picked him.

Mandarin is going to be in the 3rd film. Thats the plan i have read for months anyway.I could see Natasha being black widow now that he has the SHIELD connection but making her his assistant seems a little weird unless she was at one point

"deadly, technologically enhanced coils" That only sounds like Omega Red to me. Are they trying to make Omega Red become Crimson Dynamo, or the other way around? Also, Omega Red's name is Arkady and I don't think there was ever anyone named Ivan donning the Crimson Dynamo armor.
Maybe one of the reports is wrong about who Rourke plays?

I think some researcher accidentally got Omega Red mixed up with the Crimson Dynamo when looking up Russian super villains, so I think we can safely forget about the coil reference.
