Iron Man should win this one

Nice, hope they all are in the running for it.

Two-Face WAS pretty gruesome.

iron man? bah gimme a break. nothing challenging about rendering metal.

gonna have to go with hellboy even though it was a mediocre film.

I don't know if the more effects you have the more you deserve it. They were all good.

But I'm going with TDK.

yep hellboy all the way!!!

mengele is clearly not a visual artist.

Iron should win this hands down. The visual effects in Iron Man made the movie. The Dark Knight was made by the acting. And Hellboy was made by the makeup and beasts.

TDK

howard the duck all the way!!!

Ironman had great effects but you could not even tell what was a special effect in the Dark Knight, except for Two-Face.

Another great TDK effect - the entire leap off the building and flight into Lau's office.

I gotta admit being pretty damn impressed by Howard the Duck when I was a kid.

Posted by: mengele on January 6, 2009 at 16:34:34

ahaha... how very wrong you are. as a matter of fact i do work in visual effects - and metal is standard fare. it'd be embarrassing for them to muck that up.
now organic materials is the challenge when the scope of the movie is similar, for example Hulk is far more of a challenge than Iron Man which is why they obviously have a tough time selling green skin.
Two Face's charred face was better than anything in Iron man.

Hellboy! Hellboy! I hope Hellboy 2 gets the Oscar. This would bring more attention to this film.
***I still don't get why it was released one week before TDK. Universal should have stuck to it's original August date. Oh, well!

I dont know if its Hellboy or TDK ...

The thing is Hellboy had very creative, gorgeous CGI..

TDK had CGI that looked extremely realistic and is unnoticeable.

I am happy as long as either one them wins..

Ironman had good CGI too...but again..rendering metal isnt too hard. BUT IT WAS VERY WELL DONE..

Benjamin Button will probably win for SFX. That was nothing short of extraordinary work.
But if I had to choose...it would be Hellboy 2 which 3 times more sfx work than Iron Man and DK put together.

Posted by: Fanboiii on January 6, 2009 at 17:01:02

JLanphear obviously doesn't know what visual effects are. It's not just CG.

Even if they'd released Hellboy 2 in August, TDK would have still swallowed it up. It was #1 for over a month. HB2 was good, don't get me wrong, but TDK just dwarfed everything in the theaters this year.

I'm with RIPPER. Benjamin Button should and will probably get the Oscar for best SFX.

You are forgetting not just the effects that looked good in iron man during day and night scenes, but the intricacies of the actual armour was incredible. TDK most effects are done in the dark where its easier to sell, and two-face didnt look that good. Hellboy's CG work wasn't great either, but make-up was excellent/.

I live in Gotham City, so of course i vote for TDK. However Hellboy deserves it.

Posted by: batfan on January 6, 2009 at 17:58:45

The Dark Knight is a great film, yes, but Visual effects? Let's not get carried away ... There were movies with much more impressive effects this year.

Posted by: prozac-pedro on January 6, 2009 at 18:01:54

Hey Harrish! I also enjoyed howard. Especially the female duck bathing. Being a kid in the 80's rocked!!

Posted by: paper.klipd on January 6, 2009 at 18:02:45

honestly, i love TDK to death but did they really use that many visual effects in comparison to Iron Man and Hellboy? just a question...

Posted by: Optimus Cole on January 6, 2009 at 18:06:06

Just give it to Transformers 2 and call it good...cause that is going to be amazing...let Dark Knight win everything else. However, Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk and Hellboy2 were all good movies...it was a good year for the superhero movie...
