Cheadle is Replacing Howard in Iron Man 2

Don Cheadle is stepping in to replace Terrence Howard in Marvel Studios' Iron Man 2, says The Hollywood Reporter.

In the first film, Howard played Col. James 'Rhodey' Rhodes, Tony Stark/Iron Man's best friend and future armor-clad hero War Machine.

The trade says Marvel had no comment, but sources close to the deal said negotiations with Howard fell through over financial differences, among other reasons.

Marvel, which had wanted to work with Cheadle, then decided to take the role in another direction and approached the actor, who is shooting Antoine Fuqua's Brooklyn's Finest.

Justin Theroux is writing the screenplay for Iron Man 2, coming to theaters on May 7, 2010. Jon Favreau is returning as director, and Robert Downey Jr. is expected back as Stark/Iron Man. Gwyneth Paltrow also is expected to be back as Pepper Potts.

i never really like it when this happens. kinda screws with continuity for me. but cheadle is an awesome actor... i just dont know if hes right for a military type role, with his thin frame and such. howard actually looked like he could handle himself in a fight.

Sorry but Terrence Howard was real ***** in Iron Man...Go for it Cheadle..I'm convinced he can pull it off. Terrance Howard didn't seem like he wanted to get in the suit. If he did he'd return for the 2nd film...

he was the perfect fit for rhodey and already established his character really well but who know cheadle could be better but he needs to get buff to fill that suit well

That's what Marvel gets for signing to much A-list talent. Their salaries bring down the budget, so no A-lister can receive to much cash. So when someone (*cough* Howard *cough*) holds out for more cash, then nothing can be done to accommodate them...

That is really lame. I like Don Cheadle as an actor, but how can you replace Terrence Howard as Rhodes, do they not think people will notice a difference? Like in Dark Knight having Maggie Gyllenhaal replacing Katie Holmes as Rachel Dawes, sure they're both annoying, but at least Katie is hot and doesn't look like a blood hound. I hate Hollywood Execs, greedy mofos.

Terrance Howard was kind of feminine in Iron Man 2..I probably just didn't want to be RDJ's sidekick. I don't blame him...
Go for it Cheadle!! I think he'll kick a$$ as War Machine..Doesn't War Machine have more balls anyway?

this is GOOD and BAD. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Howard...and I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE Cheadle...but the effing with "Continuity" does blow...at least they got an actor on par, if not over, than howard. As a fan I am sort of pissed off but it won't keep me from the sequel AT ALL!!!

If I wasn't still on a high from having watched Underfist again, this news so would have made me punch a hole through a child.

I guess the paycheck for Iron Man 2 wasn't going to get Terrence Howard his yacht fast enough.

Wow did not expect howard to leave the series, sucks he left and it was likely about money issues. Hopefully cheadle will do good in the role. Though i hate when these things happen in hero films.

im upset a trade was made, because after seein howard great performances in the first, i felt like he was war machine, and no one else could take that away but cheadle has, who knows a new cast memember might be what the franchise needed its worked for the dark knight lets hope it also works for iron man

This doesn't make sense... Why would you replace Cheadle (a man who doesn't even fit the physical appearance of War Machine, no offense) in place of Howard who SEEMS like he has the build to be War Machine? Recasts suck indeed. I just hope this isn't true.
