I have a 1:1 scale replica of the Terminator skull (from T2) on my desk at home. Today his eyes glow a little less brightly. Stan will be missed.

Terrible loss to the movie industry. He was without a doubt one of the, if not THE, greatest special effects men ever. RIP Stan and thank you for all the wonder and enjoyment you gave us all your life.

This is very distressing news. He was involved with literally every single sucessful movie in the 80's and 90's (and some still today). He was a genius and an incredibly innovative man. He will be missed a great deal. (i dont think anyone can fill his shoes)

He will surely be missed. He was one of the greatest FX artists of our time. Hopefully Stan Winston Studios will continue to carry on his legacy.

Wow truly a sad day, he was a major contributor in the 90's and had his hand in some kind of magic from Aliens, to T2. He will greatly be missed
My only question now is, will McG issue a statement due to the fact that Stan was involved with T4? And will his passing affect any of the production?

I wasn't aware of his body of work until Iron Man, where Favreau refered to him as as legend.
Seeing now all the movies he's helped give us, this is a sad day for hollywood.

I don't believe that his legacy has been lost upon his death. He has definitely raised standards in Hollywood FX that will be slow to denigration. He was excellent. But not the only one anymore, when at one time he was the only one. Sad loss for sure. But FX are not lost. That is an extreme statement.

The man was and still is truly a legend. His work on Jurassic Park, Terminator and Edward Scissorhands is masterful. He created some of the most realistic, beautiful and breathtaking pieces to ever be featured in cinema. Not to mention the life and excitement he and his crew breathed into Iron Man.
He will be missed. RIP Stan and thank you for all the movie magic!!!

MarvelZombie88, all talent is dying off. Death is an inevitablity in this world for everybody. You, me, the whole world. Brace for impact! Great artists have come and gone, and will come again. Calm down.

Rest in Peace, Stan. You were, and are, loved and respected.
You were the best. My prayers are with the Winston family. Thank you for sharing such a wonderfully talented man with us for all those years.

I saw an interview with James Cameron where he said he based The Terminator on a dream he had where a metal endoskeleton was coming at him through fire. When he got approval to produce the film it was Stan Winston who recreated the robotic skeleton as a villain that would remain in the public eye for for over 25 years.
Stan Winston didn't just craft the stuff that dreams are made of, he literally made dreams come true.
He will be missed...
