Producer Peter Billingsley on Forging Iron Man's Future
Source:Scott Huver
June 2, 2008
One of the advantages of maintaining the youthful looks of his child star past is that it makes it easier to spot Iron Man producer Peter Billingsley in a red carpet crowd – even one as distracting as the one at Spike TV's Guy's Choice Awards amid unarmored eye candy like Marisa Miller and Tila Tequila. But spot him ComingSoon.net/Superhero Hype! did, and we managed to unbolt a taste of the plans he and director Jon Favreau have for the 2010 sequel to this summer's smash superhero hit.
CS/SHH!: Are you guys already working on your plans for the next one?
Billingsley: Absolutely. I guess that Marvel kind of controls a lot of that stuff and they seem to have a plan about these things and how they're laid out. I think "The Avengers," now that we can speak publicly about it, will be coming out as well. So we're just thrilled at how much people are loving the film and how well it has done.
CS/SHH!: Any "Iron Man" storylines from the comics that you're primed to adapt for the sequel?
Billingsley: Nothing has really been decided yet, but I'll tell you that there's just such a wealth of great stories. We tease The Ten Rings in the first one for all the comic book fans, so there MIGHT be something there. There's so much to take advantage of, but the most exciting part is that, always, when he's in the suit it's going to be great, because you've got the technology to do it and with Robert and this cast there's so much we can do when he's not in the suit. So I think exploring Tony Stark, his father and sort of more of the dark side of Tony, it's a great opportunity.
CS/SHH!: Jon has said previously he'd be interested in directing the "Avengers" film that's planned for release after the "Iron Man" sequel. Have you started down that road at all?
Billingsley: No. There's been nothing officially discussed. I think that "Iron Man" would be a pretty fun thing to do again and there's really a lot to do with that title. And having Robert and that great cast, Gwyneth [Paltrow] and Terrence [Howard] – there's really, really a LOT to do.
CS/SHH!: Watching this phenomenal success happen for Robert, seeing him embraced by the public and the film after such a long and rocky ride – what's that been like to witness?
Billingsley: It's pretty great. I think he really is THAT guy. I think he's been around for a long time and it couldn't happen to a nicer or more talented guy, and I think we've really just seen the tip of the iceberg with him now. He's in "The Soloist," he's in "Tropic Thunder" and everyone in town wants him. He's just as good as it gets.
CS/SHH!: Are you working on anything else with Jon and Vince Vaughn? You guys have been friends since the early days, the pre-"Swingers" days.
Billingsley: I'm producing "Four Christmases" with Vince and Reese Witherspoon now, which will be out Thanksgiving Day weekend. So a lot of fun stuff going on with that. It was awesome, a lot of fun. Reese and Vince have a great chemistry and it's a big, funny, romantic comedy Christmas movie.
Iron Man 2 is scheduled for an April 30, 2010 release. Marvel Studios is targeting a July, 2011 release for The Avengers.

If they intorduce War Machine in the 2nd movie, does that mean he'll be in The Avengers flick aswell?

LOFL RJ- like that guy that tried to shoot Iron Man! He shot his eye out too! I had no idea it was the same guy.
I think the next villain should be Scott Farkas!

...i only HOPE that War Machine is NOT in the second part...i'd really love to see him in the third movie...the second one should be about Tony's alcoholism problems and demons throughout the movie and maybe a hint of some other easter egg for a cameo of an Avenger...and then at the last arc of the movie, Rhodes comes to the rescue of his friend donning the War Machine armor...so in the third movie, we can have both of them tagging along and breaking loose...

Scut Farkus? Nooooo!!!! That was funny but I am glad to see that he is doing so well and not going down the self-destructive path that so many child stars have gone down. I am happy for his sucess and look forward to his work on Iron Man 2 and maybe some other Marvel movies

thats a really nice read. I'm so happy that Marvel is doing really well with ironman :)
its just exciting to know that superheros are actually being done right now on the film screen. I hope the new hulk film is just as successful and makes a ton of money too :)
go go HULK!!!!!

"If they intorduce War Machine in the 2nd movie, does that mean he'll be in The Avengers flick aswell?"
Nope. They're saving him and Wonderman and Hawkeye for the "West Coast Avengers" movie. J/k

Jon Favreau did a great job directing Iron Man. But I don't know about him directing the Avengers film. Might want to go with someone who has a bit of a darker style of film making for that one to make it work proper.

Peter Billingsley is a class act. I hope he and Fav are at least highly involved with all the Marvel films that have Ironman it even if producing and directing is done by other parties. And I ask the same Question as our Ass Grabbing friend, and if War Machine is in the Avengers, will it be a cameo or a full out role??? Only the future will tell.
p.s. My vote for the villians in the sequal is Titanium Man and the Crimson Dinamo in the Octagon at Mandalay Bay!!!!!!!

I don't think War Machine will be in the Avengers movie. They already have a handful of characters in mind. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see War Machine in the Avengers but too many characters may not work even if their character development occurs in their own movies.
RDJ is the man!!! I love seeing him in Natural Born Killers. As I stated on other topics, Marvel should sign Jon Favreau to make more that just Iron Man. Give him the Avengers, Captain America and Silver Surfer. Please do that Marvel. I would hate for people to label him as a comic book director but when you have a good thing going...keep it going.
We need a reboot of Elektra. She is an amazing character and has great stories to be told. IMO.

Hmmm...what more can we discover about Howard Stark...interesting.

War machine will be on irnman 2 and the avengers as well.

Iron Man was a really good movie, not the greatest comic book movie of all time but close to the top. I really hope that for the next one that they stay grounded in the realistic themes and tones we saw in the first one. I jus dont think that out of this world goofy storylines would work for the next iron man movie, but i believe they would work for the avengers movie as the heroes are a little more eccentric.
Now as for the villians in the next Iron Man, how bout Justin Hammer, Spymaster, Titanium Man or Ultimo.
Anyways its good to read an interview with "Ralphie Parker", im glad he is doing something with his life and not ruining it like most of the other child stars.

I agree about keeping the Avengers roster small. Too many characters and it might just be a big mess like X-Men 3. I hope War Machine is in the next Iron Man and I'd love them to go against Mandarin. Cimson Dynamo and Titanium Man are too similar to Stane's armor.

"Demon in a Bottle" is obviously one of Ironman's most popular storylines but I'm not so sure they can go that route in the 2nd movie. People talk about having Rhodes take over and then stark return to the suit for a third movie, but the avengers movie will be coming out after the second movie and you know that Marvel will want RDJ as Ironman for the Avengers film. So unless they can wrap up Stark's whole arc (fame, getting drunk and losing it all, rhodes taking over, stark changing his ways and gaining back his company and reemerging as Ironman) all in the 2nd film they will probably hold that off for the third film and have the second be about Mandarin

Can't wait for the 2nd one and remember "you'll shoot your eye out kid"
Posted by: Nick on June 2, 2008 at 17:01:28
they should have titanium man as the villan and at the same time tony's other problem would be the tony's acohol problem with the demonic part of it
Posted by: jake on June 2, 2008 at 17:11:01
c'mon ralphie, convince jon to adapt "demon in a bottle!"

i don't know about a dark film style for the avengers...they're a bright team, just look at their colors. darkness wouldn't suit iron man and especially captain america who's the focal point of the team. i think it'd be awesome to have the hulk as the villain in iron man 2 and have iron man and war machine take him out
Posted by: kungsta on June 2, 2008 at 17:19:32
That's good all in all ppl always want the same guys to work on the movie as soon as they f*** it up they get pissied saying he's the wrost...two good ironman flicks that's all u can hope for...

At first, I was all for the Demon In A Bottle storyline in Iron Man II. Now I'm more for building it up in II and doing it in III. I'd love to see Jon Favreau do the Avengers.
I was absolutely floored when I found out that Ralphie was producer. A Christmas Story is such a beloved part of my childhood and seeing how well Peter Billingsley has come in his life is awesome to see. This was way cooler than when I realized that Scott Farkas (Zack Ward) was in the Transformers last summer.
Peter Billingsley to Tony Stark:
I WANT A RED IRON MAN, FULLY FUCTIONING, REPULSOR RAY, ION PARTICLE, SUIT OF ARMOR, WITH A SHOULDER MOUNTED GUN AND A COMPASS AND A STOCK!!!
Tony Stark:
YOU'LL SHOOT YER EYE OUT, KID!!!
...You all know that when Billingsley dies, his obituary will contain the words "YOU'LL SHOOT YOUR EYE OUT".
...THERE ARE A HELLUVA LOT OF WORSE THINGS TO NEVER BE ABLE TO LIVE DOWN.
---Later!

Jon Favreau & Peter Billingsley HAVE TO work on the Avengers. There can be no other way. The continuity will be spectacular. And everything that made Iron Man dope will be 10x's as great.

they could turn Happy Hogan into the Freak and use him as a villian.
