Tim Blake Nelson on The Leader in Hulk Sequel
November 25, 2008
Tim Blake Nelson, who played Dr. Samuel Sterns in The Incredible Hulk, tells Ain't It Cool News that the plan is for his character to become villain The Leader in a possible sequel:
Quint: Great well what about a potential HULK sequel? Gale Anne Hurd's been going around talking about how you might be The Leader and the main villain of the next one.
Tim Blake Nelson: That's the plan. That's what they tell me, but I don't know when that's happening or what the details are but I am eager to do it and I hear that's in the works. I would tell you if I knew more, but I honestly don't.
Quint: Yeah, but you haven't played a comic-book villain yet right?
Tim Blake Nelson: No, but I had a great time doing HULK, so if they want me for HULK 2 I'm there, it certainly was the plan going into HULK 1. When I met with them they said this is where it’s headed so I'm eager to do it.
Marvel Studios has not announced whether it will move forward with a follow-up.

Bleh, hulk was only okay. Granted, I don't know much about the Leader so I don't know how that will come off. But, I'm not that excited about this one.

Forget the leader, lets have the Fantastic Four come in to take on the Hulk.

spill the beans much? most superhero movies try to keep the villain a secret at least til their in production...

Well technically this would be Hulk 3 and the last one was Hulk 2...
bleh wo cares it was good that's all that matters. I look forward to some Leader action.

@scarehuman.... technically no you are wrong. this was a reboot unrelated to the one a few years ago.
just like batman begins isn't "technically" batman 5 cuz it's a whole separate thing.
it is confusing when they're so close together though. reboot every 3 years! :)

no, it would be hulk 2. The Incredible Hulk is a reboot so Hulk never happened

nvm, speedracer beat me to it

The Incredible Hulk was a good movie, what are you people talking about?
Oh yeah some of you are too busy waiting for that Iron Man sequel that will end up blowing balls because it's just going to be an action flick.

So I really loved the incredible hulk movie, I thought it was about as good a movie as you can make with the Hulk. It was the hulk movie Ive been waiting for. Granted, some aspects of it weren't exactly perfect, but I dont know any perfect films, so whatever.
In any case, I am kind of against the Leader being a sequel villain. Hes a terrible character to try and bring over to the movie version of the marvel universe. The Hulk, like superman, NEEDS A PHYSICAL THREAT to be an interesting movie. Abomination provided that by using the same technology as the hulk. The Leader is gonna do what? build his hovering robots to send after the hulk? Come on, that is going to look horrible on screen and you all know it. What else could the Leader do within the confines of the Hulk world? I see 3 possibilities. He can either de-hulk banner, so he CANT hulk out. Thatd be the smartest move on leader's part, but kind of makes for a boring HULK movie, if we see hulk even less than in the first one. He can spring abomination and have abomination fight him. Thatd make the most sense, but didnt we already just see that movie? Ive already seen hulk beat up abomination, i dont need to see it again. Thats not bringing something new to the table. Lastly, he can start infecting others with the gamma rays the same way. Maybe he infects samson, who might want revenge on banner. Or maybe just an army of mini hulks.
So really, I think the best hope for this one is for te leader to corrupt samson and make him the physical threat, but have banner and him find a common thread and team up against leader. Maybe leader will push it too far and put betty in harms way, thats sure to set off samson. Then if they do a third one they can have samson as a full blown ally.
But seriously, Id hate to see the hulk franchise dragged through the mud in a sequel, Id honestly prefer to wait to see hulk again until the avengers.

well since the Fantastic Four,Silver Surfer,X-Men and Spider-Man and Daredevil are not the possession of Marvel at the moment then why not have the Hulk sequel and go ahead and introduce Wendigo,Leader and since he is in Canada at the end of the first one(yes I don't count Ang Lee) then introduce members of Alpha Flight.
Since it is logical to assume that since the Gov't tracked Banner to Sterns lab then Sterns is probably in custody along with Abomination. No reason why he can't orchestrate a breakout that leads to other super powered criminals being released and maybe this will help set up the Avengers. I want the Avengers to face super villains not an Alien invasion unless the Aliens are Kree or Skrull(but the Skrulls were part of the package to Fox along with FF,Surfer and Galactus).
With Alpha Flight- I think everyone would like to see at least Puck(maybe Peter Dinklage actor) and Sasquatch and Shaman if not also Vindicator,Snowbird,Aurora and Northstar.

so SAYS THE LEADER!!!
Posted by: hypestyle on November 25, 2008 at 11:18:19
there should be a Hulk sequel for real- include the Leader, Bi-Beast, some more monster-foes, also have giant robots and various mechanical adversaries for the Hulk to fight against.. the Leader must hatch a scheme to take over the world..
Posted by: Avenger Hawkeye on November 25, 2008 at 11:21:00
Hulk and Sasquatch= fight along with Puck and Alpha Flight then team up to throw down with Wendigo and other infected(via bite or scratch)Wendigo-ites(is that a word?)
Leader towards the end orchestrates the prison break of super villains: Absorbing Man,Abomination,Wrecker,Whirlwind and to be continued in the Avengers or Avengers II

Nelson will make a great Leader. Dr. Sterns was ego driven, miniacal, inventive, and power hungry..... so with GAMMA Power He will be awesome!!!
And get off of HULK as a bad guy. HULK is good! This is the theme of Lettier's HULK. So no fighting other good guys.
strength and honor lads.

What about Norton?
Posted by: Adamantium Rage on November 25, 2008 at 11:31:21
@speedracer216 and Dr Doom, The incredible Hulk was not a reboot. If you look at the definition of the studio, it was something like a retelling of the some of the story, which they sort of did during the beginning credits of the Incredible Hulk.
If it was a reboot like Batman Begins they wouldn't have continuted where The Hulk ended. The Incredible Hulk was a much better movie than The Hulk, Ang Lee's version sucked, well moreso the story was just stupid. I like Edward Norton and I hope he gets attached to any subsequent films.

I still think he should play Delmar.

OK...SERIOUSLY, CAN WE GET SOME KIND OF PATISSION GOING!? I REALLY REALLY ENJOYED THE LAST HULK MOVIE. INFACT, I LOVE IT JUST AS MUCH AS I LOVED IRON MAN. (SORRY ABOUT THE CAPS..I'M TOO LAZY TO CLICK THE BUTTON RIGHT NOW)
I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THE LEADER. WELL THIS IS WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE HAPPEN, THE LEADER TAKES WHAT SAMPLES ARE LFET OF THE HULK BLLOD AND CREATES HIS OWN "PERFECT RACE" THEY DESTROY UMM..PROBABLY NYC AND FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASON YET..THEY WANT THE HULK EITHER DEAD OR ALIVE...OH AND YEA.,..BRINGING BACK A-BOMB WOULD BE KILLER...DON'T GET TECHNICAL...I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT THE NEW A-BOMB..I JUST LIKE THAT NAME.

I hope they make another Hulk movie, they're fun.
I just doubt Norton will be back, and that kinda sucks, because they'd have to recast and it would feel like another "relaunch" of the franchise.

I loved the latest Hulk. Did a great job on it. Too bad it didnt make enough money. I guess people really only know about the original series. People were actully gettin mad at how strong the Hulk was because they dont read the comics. Oh well, if they can make sequels to crap like the resident evil franchise or crank then we should get another Hulk.

Dude, the first one did OK at best at the boxoffice. It was a decent movie. not in the same league as Iron Man or The Dark Knight or even Hellboy 2 for that matter. but it was worth watching and some what enjoyable. Point im trying to make is if there is a sequel it needs all the buzz it can get. They need a hellava marketing campaign and what better way then to say who the villain might be, thats what most fan boys wait to hear about a comic film anyway and then the word of mouth keeps going on.

have the hulk be the..... villian in the avengers....... sorry chilipalmer..... but yeh the hulk is a good guy but still is a threat in many peoples eyes in the marvel universe. This is how the avengers should end..... hulk is beat down buy the avengers and sent into space by stark and the general...... The Incredible Hulk 2 Planet hulk. Well??

I'm with Keith Kappal and Hypestyle on this one. The Leader would make a GREAT polar opposite to the Hulk provided they give him a legitimate purpose.
Samson seemed very in favor of using Gamma radiation to enhance human life, so the earlier idea of the Leader creating an army of mini-Hulks, along with reviving Abomination and maybe even creating Bi-beast would all work well in the sequel.
Fingers crossed Marvel gets it right by first GREEN-LIGHTING another Hulk flick with the same cast and director...

There really is a lack of good villains for a sequel unless your pulling from other marvel titles imo. The leader is just to bleh, i mean you can use him but it cant be him alone, got to toss in absorbing man to and maybe something else idk. I want to see him facing the likes of thanos, rhino, juggernaut ect.. tho im sure there are alot of legal problems with those ideas, would like to thank fox and others for putting a nice gap in the marvel universe :P Unless they can come up with something to top IH,and im not sure they can, should just leave this alone till after avengers or just tie him into one of the other 3 movies befor avengers is out.
