The Hulk Smashes into the Box Office

With some surprisingly tough competition in M. Night Shyamalan's The Happening, Marvel Studios' second in-house production The Incredible Hulk (Universal) won the weekend, opening at #1 with an estimated $54.5 million in 3,500 theaters, which is somewhat lower than the $62 million opening of Ang Lee's previous movie back in 2003. Based on the estimates, The Incredible Hulk is on par with other Marvel-based movies The X-Men in 2000 ($54.5 million) and Fantastic Four in 2005 ($56.06 million), but with a production budget of $150 million, it has a ways to go before it might considered a worthwhile endeavor to relaunch the character.

I bet with the strong word-of-mouth, it will (hopefully) have a similar to run to "Iron Man." Granted it won't make anything near $300+ million like "Iron Man" will, but it will hopefully only drop 30% every weekend like "IM" has been doing every weekend. This movie definitely needs a sequel and can't wait for Hulk to be in "The Avengers."

i enjoyed the movie , worth the price of admission, hopefully it will make more than the first movie

Word of mouth killed Ang Lee's film. Now word of mouth needs to raise this one up. I think Lee's Hulk still lingers in the minds of many people and it will take some convincing to get them back into the theaters. Not everyone pays attention to forums and movies websites. Many have no clue this is a reboot and not a sequel.

GREAT MOVIE, SEEN IT TWICE NOW AND IT KEEPS GETTING BETTER. MY ONLY PROBLEM WITH IT IS THAT IT ENDED. WISH IT WAS A 3HR MOVIE. HAD LOTS OF ACTION, DRAMA, ROMANCE, THRILLS, CHILLS YOU NAME IT. INCREDIBLE....GOING TO WATCH IT AGAIN NEXT WEEK.

Think this will go the opposite of the Ang Lees movie, word of mouth will save it.

Great flick for sure! With Iron Man Marvel hit a home run and a triple for sure.

just like batman begins, it is being effective with the previous movie.

An excellent movie that I will see a couple more times.
Lets hope that people wake up and see the crap out of it.

Okay opening weekend but it will jump bigtime in worldwide gross. It will beat ang lees worldwide gross.

People who don't give a damn about comic book movies aren't going to go see it after work during the week. Get Smart and The Love Guru will further hender its "legs" because fanboys already saw it. Just like AvP-R, fanboy complaints equals a lesser follow-up to appease.

I thought Samuel Jackson was also going to be in the Hulk movie? I thought it would have been cool if, at the end of the movie when the person asks,"who else have you got?", the same person leans back, so you see Fury sitting next to him at the bar.

Hulk fans, this is the movie we were waiting for, but it made less than the "Galactus as a giant space cloud" piece of crap Fantastic Four sequel. Get out there and into the theaters. Support the Avenger Initiative!

I thought It would have done better, hopefully strong word of mouth will get enough people to see it to warrant a sequel.

I really loved this movie for what it is, but Marvel didn'tpromote this movie remotely close to what they did for Iron man

Posted by: Harish on June 15, 2008 at 20:16:10

I saw it again today, and I feel like I got more from it than Iron Man. It definitely deserves to get a lot of income. Great film in its own right. After my repeat viewing of this, I honestly feel like it's my favourite Marvel movie. Great all round job. There's room for improvement, but I can't deny my enjoyment of it.

Look forward to the Norton cut.

Posted by: FanBoiii on June 15, 2008 at 20:27:47

Let's support Marvel and get more of our movies made! Spread the word around to see Hulk. Let's give this cash cow a hulk out!

We are legion. Fans for movies for fans.

Go HULK!!!! And by the way I heard the happening was so bad that people walked out during the movie and where telling people not to see it. Hulk rules and will continue making money as the days go on. Kids are out of school now for the summer so they will see it.

Posted by: SuperDude on June 15, 2008 at 20:31:36

One more thing, Ang Lee's hulk made a lot because there was nothing like it before it. A full CGI character that looked real wasent realy around before then. Now that type of CGI is all over the place. This HULK is way better and will make a ton of money over the next few weeks and months.

Hey considering Batman Begins only made somethin like 48Mil on its 1st weekend and it too was a reboot back in 2005,BUT look how much its loved and referenced now,so I think that there's still hope 4 the Hulkster in the long run, just wait & see!
Btw...LOVED IT!!
