Hulk Opens with $21 Million
Source:Box Office Mojo, Fantasy Moguls
June 14, 2008

Early estimates for the opening day of Marvel Studios and Universal Pictures' The Incredible Hulk, starring Edward Norton, show it making just over $21 million on Friday in over 3,500 theaters.

That's just below the amount made by the first Fantastic Four movie three years ago and less than its sequel Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer made in the same weekend last year.

It's still a respectable opening that points to a three-day weekend in the $55 million or higher range, which would put it in the mid-range for a movie based on a Marvel Comics character.

Check back tomorrow for the final studio estimates for the weekend.

Hopefully, when word gets out about how awesome this movie is, people will go see it and support this iteration of the franchise.

138th?

Not bad, I was hoping for more. But like Batman Begins which opened in the $40 million range, it had to overcome the negativity of the previous movie. It'll do well and if it gets a sequel, it will do much better.

just like iron man, it needs word of mouth if we want it to succeed :)
cos i personally LOVE marvel, but didn't have any intention to watch ironman til the second week.
BOY was i wrong.
the same case might be for TIH.

Hope the movie ends up making more than the first Hulk. This movie was alot better and I really enjoyed it. My friend and I couldnt stop talking about how awesome it was when it finished. The last fight scene is seriously jaw dropping. HULK SMASH!!!!

Posted by: Honest Fan on June 14, 2008 at 15:55:51

I'm a big fan of comics, and thus, comic movies. I had high hopes for TIH and I was still blown away. The only negative feedback would be the editing during the fight scene wasn't "flawless". But heck, it was absolutely... well, incredible. For all the critics I've been reading that say Hulk looks cartoonish and that the movie is predictable, all I can say is, "are you kidding?" Please, please, please, do not take the critic's word for it on this one. The movie is really, really good! The acting is perfect. The casting is as good as Iron Man, easily. The CGI is awesome - (you just can't compare the CGI in Iron Man to TIH, because you're dealing with easier subject material with Iron Man... How in God's name can they make a 9' green guy look any more real than they did? - people are just waaaayyyyy too critical). Go see this movie now, it's worth every penny and we need Marvel to know that we want more of THIS.

Don't worry I wont tell.

WTF? That's not Hulk's opening. 21 million is just for the first day the "Hulk opens with $21 million" is wrong title.

Posted by: The Watcher on June 14, 2008 at 16:00:51

When I went to watch it again for the 2nd time last night the cinema was 60% empty.

I still enjoyed it, bring on the Blu-Ray releases of Hulk & Iron Man now I say.

Posted by: K-Mac on June 14, 2008 at 16:10:00

Went and seen it last night and in my opinion it is by far the best marvel film to date the only complaint I could have is that I have to wait so long for a part 2 it was an amazing movie and I hope people will go see it.

Posted by: Mark on June 14, 2008 at 16:10:38

It does have the stigma of the last one to overcome, so it seems to be off to a decent start.

Gotta say though: there's a pile of "revisionist history in the press right now about Ang Lee's film. There's a lot of "flop" and "bomb" recollections by the press.

Disappointment, I get. Mixed reactions, I get. But "flop" and "bomb" implies heavy money loser.

A film that cost $137 million and turns a profit because it earned $245 million worldwide at the box office and then sells another $200+ million worth of DVDs doesn't a "bomb" make, in my eyes. Unless my definition of BOMB (a movie that costs far more to make than it earns) is not the right one ...

These are only projected estimates nothing in stone yet. Don't I think it will do better..

Way, way better than the first try.

Can't wait to see it again!!

Posted by: jbroce on June 14, 2008 at 16:14:05

i thought it was pretty good. I think i kinda ruined it for myself by seeing all those clips ahead of time. my brother came out extremely giddy because he made sure not to see anything ahead of time. Overall i thought It's as good as you can do with that character. Ill be ok if they never make another hulk movie but i would love to see him in the avengers movie, either as part of the team or as a bad guy also. And whats with people saying he looks cartoonish? Ang lees looked like shrek on steroids. maybe people forget that the hulk is a COMIC BOOK, so if we get him 3d rendered in a movie thats definately a few steps up in my book

Posted by: Spy on June 14, 2008 at 16:19:50

The incredible hulk was exllecent directed. My only hope is that more people go see it. The Marvel company is doing the right thing in taking its time with these awesome characters. To me they so far have not dissapointed. Excellent work Marvel...
