Liv Tyler is the New Betty Ross!

Actress Liv Tyler is having a busy summer with not one, but two movies from Universal being released in the next couple of weeks. When ComingSoon.net/Supehero Hype! talked to the starlet for Bryan Bertino's horror thriller The Strangers, we were just as curious to find out more about her portrayal of Betty Ross in Marvel Studios' relaunch of The Incredible Hulk.
Tyler didn't have a lot to reveal about what to expect from the relationship between her Betty and Ed Norton's Bruce Banner, but she told us that she did go back and watch Ang Lee's The Hulk to check out how Jennifer Connelly played the character, though that's not to say that the new movie will be very much like its predecessor. "There's nothing similar about the story or even really the characters in a lot of ways," Tyler explained. "I mostly went back and watched the television show, which was one of my favorite things my mom and I used to watch all the time. I would say that the essence of that image of the lone figure of [David] Bruce Banner walking down the street alone with his little backpack hitchhiking, the misunderstood hero having to move onto another town was more of the overall feeling for the film but the story is completely different." (Oddly, Betty Ross wasn't in the original television show at all.)
She couldn't really elaborate on what she hoped to bring to the role either. "I didn't write the screenplay, Edward Norton did, and I was really very happy, because I was actually offered the part and had to decide if I was going to be in the movie before I ever read the script, but it was really well-written and he wrote a really great part for me. I'm a scientist—which I know is unbelievable—and I had a lot of good things to do that I was excited about."
There's been a lot of gossip and rumors about the acrimony between Norton and the film's producers especially when it came to the final edit but Tyler didn't really see any of that while filming the movie. "No, this was a real collaboration for everyone and Edward wrote the screenplay and they agreed to his story, and he was really involved—as were we all—It was a real collaboration the entire time. I think where real misunderstandings happen, if at all, was just in the editing. Edward released a statement talking about it. I can't speak for them, but I think that basically at a certain point, Marvel just decided to put together or edit a movie that they wanted to, and I think possibly Edward disagreed with some of those things. It's really not a big deal. It's the same movie. There's nothing crazily different about it. I'm not really sure why all that happened, to be honest."
Having been a fan of the original show, Tyler was disappointed that she missed the visit to the set from the original Hulk Lou Ferrigno. "He came to set one day and I believe it was an amazingly, one of the only days in the three or four months where I had half a day somehow, because I was working constantly, and I didn't get to stay to meet him and I really wanted to."
You can read more with Tyler, talking about her new horror movie The Strangers (opening on Friday, May 30) over on Superhero Hype!'s brother site ShockTillYouDrop.com. The Incredible Hulk opens on June 13.

I hope in the end both Marvel and Ed were happy with the end result of the film, I can't wait! oh and LIV TYLER IS F***'N HOT!!!

This has got to be one of the worst castings ever. Liv Tyler really shouldn't even be in films. She's not an actress.

I beg to differ. I remember watching her in That Thing You Do and thinking she was beautiful and talented. I look forward to seeing her in the Incredible Hulk. Connelly did a good job but they changed the cast so we'll see how it goes.

Liv Tyler is FAT???....Where do you meet your dates?..the Betty Ford Clinic special wing for anorexics?....The girl is HOT!....and, she's a fairly decent actress too.

she looks like that guy from aerosmith
wish she'd walk this way

She is so damn pretentious and full of crap. She talks about her "inspirations" for films in such a Hollywood manner it's hard to stomach.
You just know she finds out about all of these fantasy based material the very day she receives a script for one, then walks around like it's been a fascinating part of her childhood/life the whole time. She's such a poser... and she has "man hands".
Regardless, The Incredible Hulk movie is shaping up to be a good.

Why is everyone saying Liv Tyler is hot? Although I agree with Paradox, saying she's fat is MENTAL! But I can't see Liv Tyler as... well, hot! Megan Fox is hot. Kate Beckinsale is hot. Ali Larter is hot! But Liv... Liv is beautiful. She has an angelic beauty about her that you can't say she's hot (well, at least, I can't).
I like Jenny Connelly a lot in the previous Hulk, but I wouldn't mind at all that Liv is replacing her.

mmmmmm, Kate Beckinsale... in a tight leather all-in-one, mmmmmmmmmmmmm
Did you know her dad (Richard) was in a british sit-com called Porridge? He had a funny name, Godber.
mmmmmmmmmm, Kate Beckinsale...

Spider, you haven't seen a Night at McCool's then. Check it out...it's good for the hormones.
Anyone else get the impression that Liv just reads the script and does as she's told? I mean, her 'research' for the role was to watch the TV series. If you were really trying to get into Betty's mindset you'd read some source material..at the very LEAST you'd watch the cartoon show or something (although she was pretty 1D in there.)
I'm sure she'll do agreat job in the film, but I really don't get the impression she gives a flip about Betty Ross.

oh, and as far as Liv goes, you wouldn't kick her out of bed for farting!
peace

How come Banner never had any oter girlfriends, he so commited to one woman crazy. Also I wonder why Betty Ross, was never in the TV show even Thunderbolt Ross. Was this due to budget although, the TV show was cancelled before the 5th season could be made trully a gripping TV show of its time.
The Leader has to be the next Villain then the U-Foes.

I'm a fan of Jennifer Connelly, so it's sad to see her not reprise, but Liv is a great choice. I've really like her in her roles, and I'm really not sure why the hate gets thrown her way, but that's just life. The whole Norton/Marvel beef was jsut some cooked up ****. He wanted the movie cut his way, from an artistic perspective, and Marvel didn't...they cut the checks, and it's there property...wtf more is there to beef over? The movie will be a hit, and he'll be asked to rinse and repeat for Hulk 3...end of freaking story.

Ladies and gentlemen, this sounds like FUN!
I just hope they throw in some kind of homage to Jack Colvin's character, investigative reporter 'Jack McGee' into the mix!

you guys are right. she is not hot! only the hottest women are scientist. liv won't cut it she's beautiful but that's not enough. i want this movie to be realistic in some aspect despite an 8 ft green goliath is the main attration.

Didn't Zak Penn write the script... with Norton only editing parts of it... or at least that was what the WGA has decided...

Zowies!! She's a looker!!
Posted by: sanjuro on May 29, 2008 at 08:51:59
Well, she's definitely more beautiful than Haggie Gyllenhaal.
Gwyneth Paltrow can look really nice sometimes. I think Hulk got the best girl this summer.
Posted by: gtrman on May 29, 2008 at 09:07:03
God, she's beautiful.
Posted by: Make Mine Marvel on May 29, 2008 at 09:57:55
oh yeah batman could have definitely did better then Haggie. If I was him, I'd let the joker keep her.
I didn't hate the cast of the first hulk movie and would have like to see eric and jennifer reprise there rolls in this movie. i think norten and tyler are great actors but the characters for this hulk movie don't seem real to me, i'm going to see this movie mainly for the cgi hulk.
