Green Lantern to Film in New Orleans?

The Times-Picayune is reporting that Warner Bros. may shoot the Martin Campbell-directed Green Lantern in New Orleans. The production was recently pulled out of Australia due to the rising Aussie dollar:

State film production officials issued their standard no-comment this morning (Oct. 19), a habit that speaks to the fragility of luring feature film productions, which aren't considered a sure thing until cameras are on the ground. But an official at New Orleans' fledgling Second Line Stages said he has been contacted by producers and that "Green Lantern" production offices could be set up in town as early as this week.

"The rumors are correct," said Kevin Murphy, the manager of studio operations at the Lower Garden District facility. "We are working out the details, and we have a nonrefundable contract" to rent stage space to the production.

Murphy said his company's contract with "Green Lantern" producers calls for the production to occupy Second Line's sound stages in December, at which point crews would begin building sets. Principal photography would then begin in March and to continue through July or August.

There's no word if this is just for a few scenes or the entire production. Warner Bros. also shot Jonah Hex in New Orleans.

Green Lantern, starring Ryan Reynolds, is scheduled for a June 17, 2011 release.

I Hope that some filming does happen in New Orleans. I only live 45mins away and would love for a chance to be an extra in the movie. After all GL is my favorite DC hero.

Martin Campbell is the ONLY hope for this movie. FACT!

As much as I love coming on to this site for info, I'm really sick of the ignorant comments and the profanity that is being used here. This site is being ruined by the garbage that some people feel the need to post. I'm sure my post won't change a thing but to you real comic book fans, hang in there. I think New Orleans would be great. It will bring jobs and more attention to a city that is still rebuilding. What better place for a iconic Hero to be!

I still cannot let the fact that Ryan Reynolds is playing the Green Lantern sink in. is it too late for him to drop the role and get Bradley Cooper or Chris Pine for Green Lantern?

I think it would be only too appropriate for the hero who rebuilt a city in the comics to help rebuild one in the real world. New Orleans: The City Without Fear!

Kudos to 2 brilliants ides pointed out here: Chris Pine as Hal Jordan/Green Lantern and Hugo Weaving as Sinestro. I also say Michael Madsen as Kilawog.

Good idea actually..kind of a correlation to the comics as well: just as the Green Lanterns helped rebuild Coast City after the Sinestro Corps War, the Green Lantern movie will help rebuild NO's economy..smart move in my opinion

I always wondered about David Boreanz (Angel, Bones) to play Hal Jordan. He provided the voice for GL in New Frontier and I think he would pull it off the live action Hal as well...too late though.

New Orleans needs the business. Good move.

KnightRare! why are these things awesome.

The green lantern will be filming in new orleans that is great news.

I wanted Chris Pine as Hal Jordan too!...he looks more the part than skinny Ryan Reynolds

i live in new orleans. i will go be an extra if this happens.

As long as they actually make GL i don't think any "fan" should complain. Just be glad its getting made.

Posted by: ptff on October 20, 2009 at 16:19:44

I don't get people.

Jenna, How is Ryan Reynolds skinny? After Blade Trinity and his beyond, he is one ripped dude.

@ Everyone that cries over the current Green Lantern production

Seriously, this is what I hate about fanboys -- the only actors they want to be cast in comic book movies are the ones that look like their comic book counterparts, acting and characterization be damned. I mean, this is the same thing that happened when people wanted Adrien Brody or Crispin Glover as Joker in "The Dark Knight." The ONLY reason fanboys wanted those two was becuase they were tall, skinny, had oblong, crooked noses and an angular face. In short, they looked like Joker, but would have played the part straight.

And now, we have the same thing with Hugo Weaving being tossed around as Sinestro. C'mon! Get someone with acting chops to play the role, then in makeup, they can make him look like Sinestro all they want. You folks do know what makeup is, right? It's when they take someone that does not look anything like their character and make them look like their character. Hollywood magic, eh?

And what's with the constant harping with Reynolds as Green Lantern? Hal was about 28 when he got the power ring, and Reynolds is spot on for that age. And why do people want short, "it"-boy Chris Pine? This is not the Dawson's Creek version of Green Lantern. And people are still insisting on Bradley Cooper?! WHAT?! The guy is too old and has such a severe tan that it makes his face look like a sunburned leather bag.

And Ryan Reynold's is skinny?! HUH?! Just GOOGLE "Ryan Reynolds shirtless" and you'll see that this guy is beyond ripped. The guy's practically an athlete.

Posted by: David Boreanaz for Hal Jordan on October 20, 2009 at 18:14:57

David Boreanaz has the look, voice and physique of Hal Jordan. I think Ryan Reynolds is a fantastic actor and does a great job in any role he takes, but...he's not Hal Jordan. With his personality, he'd play a better Flash. I'm still wondering how Marvel is even letting this happen considering he is also playing Deadpool righ around the same time as Green Lantern.

Posted by: DeadFox on October 20, 2009 at 18:24:42

If Ryan Reynolds doesn't start with his lame Dane Cook attempts to be witty and funny (Blade Trinity & X-Men Origins: Wolverine) This has a good chance to be a solid entry for Green Lantern. But nonetheless I still preferred Ryan Gosling for this role.

It could work. Also Jackie Earle Haley for Sinestro.

Posted by: Warner Hater on October 20, 2009 at 18:49:07

This movie will never be made. A lot of talk for months but Superman or Batman isn't in the title.
