October 17, 2009
Ain't It Cool News is reporting an interesting rumor that Jackie Earle Haley, who played Rorschach Watchmen and stars as Freddy Krueger in the upcoming A Nightmare on Elm Street, is the frontrunner to play Green Lantern villain Sinestro.
Not only that, but the site says that Superman may make a cameo appearance as well!
In case you're not familiar with the character, you can read all about Sinestro here.
Green Lantern, to be directed by Martin Campbell and starring Ryan Reynolds, is targeting a June 17, 2011 release date.

When the headline said he was the villain, I thought of Hector Hammond and it made sense, but Sinestro's even more interesting. Never would've thought of it, but yeah... that's awesome.

i am totally down for jackie for sinestro if he is selected. Not one of the many guys most are thinking. But this isnt official yet. As for superman cameo that has been known for like a yr now the first draft featured a cameo of clark kent. But with the ongoing lawsuit battles, and from DCE pretty much saying superman isnt in development/they have no direction even picked if they were doing something. I doubt the kent cameo would be kept. When it could easily be replaced with some other DC character not in any intanglements.

I can see it.
I know he's a bit short but then again I am sure they can work around it.
He definitely could pull it off.
Oh yeah...I too am shocked though.

I don't see where this 'douchbag' image of Ryan Reynolds come from. Only from fanboys, I guess because Ryan is a fellow nerd too. And I can't see why anyone thinks he's not at least entertaining. Must the narrow minds of some, thinking that Ryan will be playing Van Wilder as Hal Jordan. Pfft.

i think timothy dalton would be a better choice, but whatever. as for superman showing up, i doubt they will do that. atleast not in the same manner as marvel has done. i got a feeling it will be similar to how a news report mentioned gotham in superman returns. he'll probably be on the news just to get the point across they inhabit the same universe. no actual interaction between them though.

Im kind of shocked sinestro is the "bad guy" in the first one. I kind of expected mongul or hector hammond or something. I was expecting sinestro to be the mentor in the 1st one, Leave the corps in the 2nd, and be the enemy in the third. Thats how I'd have done it. But at the same time, I guess you want to open with your best foot forward on a franchise? Just seems like if they try to cram all of sinestro's arc into one movie, itll be trying to do too much at once. That has trilogy written all over it.

@ Kyle Rayner: I think they are married. And Trinity was a good movie. Not the best in the trilogy, but good. Why is everyone hating on Trinity?
@ Deadfox: Rayner's right. Your a douche. Though Reynolds probably inprovised some lines, they were written for him. And he was funny as f*** in that movie. The Stuff between him, Triple H & Parker Posey was great.
Other than Nathan Fillon, I can't think of another actor to play Hal Jordan besides Reynolds. it for me, just like Liam Neeson doesn't for the A-Team.)
Everyone hating on Ryan. He played an awesome Wade Wilson, till someone prison-raped Deadpool in the second-half of XO-Wolverine. He was a fantastic Hanniball King. And he will be an incredible Hal Jordan.
Would have made a better Wally West though.

And if you don't believe me about Ryan as Wade, check his XO-Wolverine character trailer.
That bleeds Wade Wilson.

Jackie Earle Haley is a good guy and I applaud his interpretation of Rorschach in Watchmen. That being said....he just doesn't have the physical presence or innate condescending elitist nature that is needed to portray Sinestro as the evil and flawed ex-Green Lantern and former mentor to Hal Jordan. I could see him rock out as Guy Gardner but then that physical stature thing pops up again. No offense to the vertically challenged.
