SCI FI Wire talked to Green Lantern screenwriter Marc Guggenheim on the status of the Martin Campbell-directed comic book adaptation, which Warner Bros. Pictures has scheduled for a June 17, 2011 release. Here's a clip:

"In fact, I'm ... delivering another draft today," Guggenheim (TV's Flash Forward) said in an exclusive interview on Friday. "So it continues to move forward."

The film is expected to be directed by Martin Campbell, who stepped in for Berlanti, and is slated to begin production at Australia's Fox Studios in Sydney this summer for a release on June 17, 2011.

Guggenheim confirmed that his script will focus on Hal Jordan, based on the Silver Age DC Comics incarnation of the superhero, and how he became a member of the Green Lantern Corps.

I'll be pissed if they mess this one up.

The first thing I thought when I read it would be filming at 'Fox Studios' was "I wonder how long it will take for someone to post 'fox sucks!'" Faster than the speed of thought, there it was!
Man, it's a studio set, not the production company. It's clear from the first paragraph that Warner Bros is producing it. Besides, it doesn't matter who produces it, it's the Green Lantern, so it will probably suck anyway...

I'll be surprised if this film gets made.

great news!!!!!!

I like Cooper, but I still hope Jensen Ackles or Mike Vogel gets cast.

Also it would be cool to see John Stewart in the sequel as well as Kyle Reyner too

I Believe in Warner Bros.

Is Secret Origins:Green Lantern worth buying?

Sounds good. Can't wait to see who they pick for GL!

@$%# Bruno Cruz!

Can't Can't Wait Wait. My favorite character of all. With Campbell at them helm all is well, but I too am dying to know who will be wielding the ring. After Hangover's stellar performance WB might officially cast Cooper, but who knows. I just am so happy this is going to be made.

I think that guy from the hangover Bradley Cooper would make a good GL or even sam worthington from TS. I don't just a thought.

I hope they update the story and not base it back in jordans era...

This is THE superhero movie I've waited for most of my life!
Here's hoping they dont ruin it!

Al Pacino !!!! ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL Al Pacino !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, it's true. FOX DOES SUCK. THEY MESSED UP DAREDEVIL, ELEKTRA, FANTASTIC FOUR AND THE X-MEN SERIES.

I think I'm alone in the universe when I say that I prefer Kyle Rayner as the Green Lantern. But hey, go with what people know. But Martin Campbell is a very good director, so I think it should be at least an amazing looking film.

I will boycott this film for sure now. It is so typical of hollywood to use the old white character instead of the cool new black character who has way more depth. When they make the green lantern i want. Then i will be there and for those who will say i am just a angry black guy i am not im mexican.

Fox does suck, but the reasons have nothing to do with their movies.

Posted by: ultramagnus on June 15, 2009 at 13:20:06

Green Lantern will be awesome onscreen.. if they stay true to the mythos of the character..

Posted by: danDman on June 15, 2009 at 13:24:36

NO ******* WAY IS NATHON FILLION GETTING THIS PART,I WILL BOYCOTT IT IF SO. He is too old,not good looking,he looks like Willem Dafoe. NO ******* WAY!!!

Sam Worthington is also wrong for the part.

Either Henry Cavill or Chris Pine, the rest are rubbish.

LEEE - calm down. that sort of over-marketing is exactly what I do NOT want. I want a movie with NO John Stewart, Guy as Hal's attorney only... the circle of blue men, Kilowog, Salaak. Use Abin Sur's death, Sinestro's training, followed by Hal seeing Sinestro's planet, arguing with the Oans, and Sinestro's defeat. Use Hals' Emerald Dawn troubles on Earth as a result of the ring and so on.

First off, i am sooooo excited for this movie to get made,gl(kyle Rayner) is my favorite superhero.
i wish they would just make the story about kyle rayner, rayner is the gl of most of the modern era is, that is who a lot of younger fans grew up with. Hal should be in the story but only as parralax at first, then later in the story with a rebirth, and with the corps. and maybee in the future give him a prequel movie leading up to him becoming parralax, kinda lik the scorpion king and the mummy franchise.
and technicall has already has his own movie in GL: First Flight

as much as i like stewart he just isn't as prominat gl in the comics to justify his own movie. same with gardner

Now DC needs to get the ball rolling on Wonder woman, Flash and gettig superman back where he belongs. I think Sups can be fixed by keeping Routh, but not Singer. I think you can do a reboot with the same lead actor. All the other actors from the first can go, except maybe the guy who played Jimmy Olsen.

If this film is successful then 2011 will be The Flash/Wally West film directed by David Dobkin, proudced by Chris Blancato for Warner Bros and DC comics. Lets just hope WB pull through. If Superman Return's phucked up guarantee this my phuck up as well
