Sam Worthington Talks Green Lantern
May 13, 2009
ComingSoon.net talked to Terminator Salvation and Avatar star Sam Worthington about possibly starring in the Martin Campbell-directed Green Lantern.
"I've been talking to (director) Martin Campbell about it," Worthington said when asked if he had been approached about the role. "It's one of those things where they're still doing the script. I said, 'Give me a script. Let me have a look at it.' I like Martin a lot. I met him on the Bond stuff, and I like his work, but the second step is, 'Is it a movie that I'd go and see?'"
Warner Bros. Pictures is eyeing a June 17, 2011 release for the comic book adaptation.

Wow, he's getting some attention lately.

Once he "sees" the finished script I'm sure he will figure out it damn well is a movie he would go and see. The GL film going to be mindblowing and I think Worthington is pretty much a lock to be cast as Hal Jordan. He would be a solid choice also. He is certainly on the rise! This interview practically says he is this close to being cast IMO.

yeah, he'd be awesome.

finally. a movie about me. I deserve it after all of these years. I just hope they don't screw up my story the way they screwed up Wolverine's. it's a shame what they did to the old canuckle-head. what with the werewolf bullet thing. that would be like them saying "I know how to get rid of Hal Jordan's memory... we'll shoot him in the head with a yellow nerf dart." I'll power ring them into next century with a big-ass green fist if they do that crap to me! by the way, anyone see arrow use a kryptonite ring on the guy attacking clark the other night? I better see a royalty check for that one.

wow. lots of spam on this board..! This is somewhat old news, but I don't really know much about Worthington - what's he done?
Posted by: Prozac-Pedro on May 13, 2009 at 13:09:04
@him
I believe he's got a part in the new terminator movie. But before that... ?

This movie would be a blast, and of course should be done by a director who has had success with large block-buster type movies, because that's what this would be. There's been lots of talk of who could play this role adequately, but my personal opinion is that it should be played by one of the following:
Adrian Grenier
Ian Somerhalder
Ryan Gosling
David Boreanez
Bryan Austin Green
and the best pick of all:
Drew Fuller
Seriously, that last guy is really good!
I know, I know, no one will listen to little 'ol me, and they'll choose some loser like Gary Coleman.

The thing about GL is that they will need to cast someone in their mid-twenties. He is a fighter pilot in the AF. If they cast to old (mid to late 30's), it won't work. By the time your in your mid 30's in the military, your an old man, you are high ranking and you have a desk job.
Posted by: Jayce on May 13, 2009 at 13:39:14
Really? Bryan Austin Green? Really???
Posted by: Hooey on May 13, 2009 at 13:39:21
I could see Sam as GL. I could really see Sam as Damon Baird in the Gears movie haha.

I like this news... this movie has lots of potential.

I am trying not to get too excited. Dark Knight and cartoons aside, WB does not have a good track record with mainstream DC characters, and with Watchmen performing poorer than expected I see this as a time when bloated corporate types are going to meddle and ruin any hope of a quality GL movie.
Posted by: Oi on May 13, 2009 at 14:07:41
People bring up Watchmen and they never think about the following: A nearly 3 hour long Rated R superhero movie that was designed to be more of a drama than an action adventure. SO don't bring up watchmen because it's so different. And at least Synder tried and put in effort, unlike Wolverine or any Fox movies.

this sounds good. if it's anything like batman begins, we could be looking at a great potential franchise!
i also agree w/ martin's choice in sam, he could pulloff hal, and hopefully have some good chemistry w/ bale if they ever make a justice league movie..haha
Posted by: unreal101 on May 13, 2009 at 14:12:18
and by chemistry, i mean bale and sam squaring off against each other... brain power vs. will power

Casting aside, I really fear we do not have yet the technology for the special effects needed for the ring, either it'll be cheesy looking, or he'll use the ring for 10 minutes in a 2 hour movie... or worts, he'll use the ring as a laser... meh, anyway... I know I'll buy a ticket for sure
Posted by: Lobo on May 13, 2009 at 14:38:02
God i hope he is cast.
Posted by: Sinestro on May 13, 2009 at 14:40:34
Hal, your arrogance offends me. All should know that no matter who they cast as the Green Lantern, I will steal the show as the Joker did in The Dark Knight. This movie will be about ME and the fearsome power of the yellow ring.
Posted by: Hal on May 13, 2009 at 14:50:51
pfffft. whatever, sinestro. at least the joker was scary. even though he didn't look like the real joker. what with the scars and everything. but really, who feels threatened by a dude with a little pencil mustache? who are they going to get to play you? errol flynn? vincent price? I have the hollywood A-list elite trying to get a role as me!! i mean, someone earlier mentioned bryan austin green!! now THAT is a force to be reckoned with. by the way, in case anyone wants green droppings... eat a whole lot of boo berry cereal. really, it works. lantern out!!

NATHON FREAKING FILLION! Although I guess I can live with Sam as GL, though I need to see Terminator First.
Posted by: Honest Fan on May 13, 2009 at 14:58:51
@Jayce
I'm not saying that's my #1 choice, just that it's been talked about.
Posted by: Vance Astro on May 13, 2009 at 14:59:17
He's not going to do it. He poked fun of the film in another interview I read. He made it sound like it wasn't very likely he'd take the part.
Who knows? WB has a great track record excepting Superman Returns. I'm sure they can dig up a better actor than Sam Worthington.
Posted by: Honest Fan on May 13, 2009 at 14:59:49
I'm sticking with Drew Fuller or Gary Coleman.
