Green Lantern to Shine Six Months Later
May 6, 2009
With no lead officially cast in Martin (Casino Royale) Campbell's take on the DC Comics superhero Green Lantern, Warner Bros. has decided to push the Emerald Knight's big screen debut back six months to June 17, 2011 from its original scheduled date of December 17, 2010.
No word whether this will affect the plans to start shooting in Australia in September or whether the move is to give Campbell more time for post-production and special FX.

Don't mind considering the amount of special effects needed.

i'm not surprised at all. a movie like this should be released in the summer. this movie could be so good if they do it right.

yea i said this on the boards if production is sept or nov start date, the normal amount of 4-6 months of shooting and then another 5-7 for post/reshoots/promotions would seem to be good amount of time for the film. But release dates change all the time and who knows if production runs smoothly or starts sooner maybe the dec release could come back.

I thought it would work better as a summer movie anyway.

pushing it back allows for better production, plus it makes people wait longer which may lead to them really wanting to see it. may not be for this since its relatively ow hype except on these sites.

Thor comes out May 20, with Green Lantern coming out 28 days afterwards.
28 days is enough time for Thor to slaughter the box office like so many Frost Giants.
Comic book fans than can move on to some sweet Green Lantern action.

makes more sense from a financial standpoint. wouldn't they want a big-budget superhero movie as one of their summer tentpoles instead of opening it in small Oscar-bait December? summer + superheroes = big box office bucks.

I think the delay was due to these factors:
1.) They haven't cast the right guy for Hal Jordan.
2.) The amount of time rendering the effects for the movie. I theorize this film will almost be similar in scale as what the ILM did for Transformers : Revenge of the Fallen.
3.) The story/screenplay. They should hire Geoff Johns to write / or advise the screenplay.

well if they announce that one dude from yes man and nip/tuck as green lantern..keep pushing this film back.. i wont b seeing it

This would be very logical given the amount of F/X needed for this movie.

yes please hire Geoff Johns and while your at it let him do a flash script also. please. its about time.

I think this will be better for the fact of this movie being a summer smash hit. we all saw how poorly Punisher Warzone did and my opinion Warzone was more comic related than the one before. my point is I think because the movie came out in december thats why it didnt make enough and for Green Lantern to come out in December is really a slap to the face to Green Lantern he deserve summer smash status.

I think that this movie would do well in any season, but will surely soar higher in the summer. Was looking forward to major superhero release later in the year next year though. This means no DC movie next year whatsoever :( either way, im psyched about it getting made. GL has always been my personal fave and with Campbell on board it's gonna be money. Now they need to sign an actor! I Liked Chris Pine better than Bradley Cooper
