Anvil to Rock Out for The Green Hornet!
Source:L.A. Times, Superhero Hype!
October 9, 2009

In a story about the official start of the Oscar push for Sacha Gervasi's documentary Anvil! The Story of Anvil, L.A. Times reporter Pete Hammond mentions that the band recently shot a scene for Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg's take on the pulp hero The Green Hornet, currently shooting with director Michel Gondry at the helm.

There's no mention whether the band will be playing themselves, but the scene they filmed has them playing in a club before they.... SPOILER ALERT!!

"literally explode."

Of course, the appearance of Anvil does raise a lot of questions about the time period in which the movie is set, because the original Green Hornet mainly appeared from the '30s through the '60s on a series of radio shows, film serials and a television show before disappearing, and the band's music would seemingly indicate a more modern approach to the character.

In fact, it's rather apropos for Anvil to be involved since they themselves fell off the map in the mid-'80s only to have their career resurrected in a big way when Anvil! The Story of Anvil premiered at the Sundance Film Festival last year and after a successful tour across the country earlier this year in which the band played a short set following a screening of the movie, the band was asked to open for AC/DC on their recent summer tour, including a show in front of tens of thousands at the enormous Giants Stadium. Anvil's 13th record, "This is Thirteen," was rereleased by VH-1 Classic Records on September 15 and the band is about to head out on their own headlining tour.

As far as their most recent movie appearance, you can see how it all turns out when The Green Hornet opens on December 22, 2010. Meanwhile, Anvil! The Story of Anvil was just released on DVD earlier this week and you can order it from Amazon.com.

Let us know if you've seen the Anvil doc or seen Anvil play live and what you think of their inclusion in the already quirky "Green Hornet" movie.

I have seen the Anvil documentary and I don't think a band is more deserving than them. They show the true meaning of heart and dedication to a dream. They fought hard and should inspire a lot of people in music to never quit and never day. I would say don't take their future success as pity success. They have fought hardand worked so hard to make it possible to get to the next level. It is now happening for them and paying off. They will only make the movie better for their appearance, not worse.

I just saw the movie on VH-1 the other night. I'm glad good things are happening for them.

Saw them on a talk show the other night. I'm glad things are going good for them, they've got a lot of heart and have earned their chance. That being said, I wasn't crazy about the music.

I am looking forward to the film either way, and REALLY hope it doesn't bomb.

This is the first admittedly cool thing I have heard about this production--to give Anvil a chance to get some extra exposure is pretty admirable, however the movie turns out.

Saw the documentary followed by a performance, they rocked man, it's awesome their included. The movie should have it's own time frame rather than using the previous one.

This is great.
I saw ANVIL years ago and they put on a hell of a live show.
I am glad they are finally getting thiers.

Anvil is awesome and more than deserve great things to happen for them. Am I the only person that saw footage of the Green Hornet where they accidentallys wrecked the car. The police squad cars used in the scene were present day. They even said that it was a stuntman getting out of the car the police car that was hit. So unless there is some time-jumping going on, this movie takes place in present time. You'd think the writer of this story would check on something like that. I bet the joke is going to be that Anvil finally makes it big and is at a large show only to get blown the hell up. Could be comic genius.

Great for Anvil. It was awesome for Conan O'Brien to have them on his show on Thurs. These guys are gonna be huge too!

Posted by: Film Ninja on October 11, 2009 at 18:08:22

Well, Anvil certainly couldn't make this flick any lamer. I've seen the documentary and I give Anvil all the credit in the world for sticking together for their dreams but their music sucks.

THE GREEN HORNET somehow just keeps sounding worse and worse with every news update. :(

Does any-thing about this Movie sound Good????
Glad I am NOT paying for it....Reminds me of Wild,Wild,West with Will Smith,,,,

Awesome, I love Anvil and they are going to be in the movie. I love Seth Rogen and I'm looking foward for The Green Hornet!!!

I saw Anvil open for AC/DC last summer. Man... They sucked...

Dudes,

this is just another tactic on Sony's part to try to make you forget how completely miscast Seth Rogen is. Don't believe the hype.

Wanna see a REALLY good film December 17, 2010? Go see TRON LEGACY!!!

Posted by: DireHavoc on October 14, 2009 at 09:14:56

Seth Rogan in control of a Green Hornet film.
...sigh...i guess anyone with money now a day can do whatever film they want, especially when it's not going to be a true take on the character. This will just be Superbad with masks. Waiting for Jim Carrey to come back as Plastic Man or something.

Posted by: Steve the Dude on October 14, 2009 at 10:58:56

Right you are DireHavoc, yet we are supposed to think this will be good because of Political Correctness! We Green Hornet fans know this will be crap!

December 17, 2010 ALL HAIL TRON LEGACY!

Posted by: HAVEN on October 14, 2009 at 11:44:17

good for them... except no ones heard of em. (not saying theyre bad) if you want a rock band from the 70s? why not pic def lepeard, or acdc, metalica? with the exception that they arent huge like them.. but wouldnt you think it would be better if they picked a bigger, probably better, band for the movie?

Really?
