Update: Green Hornet Pushed Back 5 Months

Seth Rogen's movie based on the pulp and television hero The Green Hornet has been moved from its original date of July 7, 2010 to its new date of December 17, 2010, according to Box Office Mojo.

No reason for the move was given, but one can presume it's to give the movie more time for post-production--principal photography hasn't begun yet--and to get it away from Robert Rodriguez's Predators relaunch.

Currently, Sony had set a Dec. 17, 2010 release date for the 3D Smurfs movie, which one assumes will be moved itself, since currently, it's up against Warner Bros.' animated Yogi Bear movie.

UPDATE: HitFix.com has gotten in touch with Seth Rogen for a reaction/explanation of the delay, and Rogen told them that he and his creative partners Evan Goldberg and director Michel Gondry are "relieved and psyched about the change" because it does give them more time to finish and promote the movie, including an appearance at next year's Comic-Con.

Just cancel this already. Don't get me wrong, I'm actually excited to see this movie. Or at least, was excited to see this movie. I like Rogen, I like Gondry, I like Stephen Chow, but it's like one thing after another with this picture. Kevin Smith's in, then out. Chow's out, but still in. Chow's totally out. Rewrites. Delays. Next they'll say they can't shoot it due to a Flight of the Conchords sequel or something.

I'm still excited for it - I think a 'Dragnet'-like approach for the Green Hornet would be awesome. But really? Will we ever see this movie? And, if so, will it even be remotely close to good?

I'm done with this.

Smurfs and Yogi Bear movies?

DAMN YOU HOLLYWOOD!

Can anyone actually write a movie anymore? Everything is a re-boot, a re-launch, or a re-do that's going to make me regurgitate.

Posted by: Darkseid on August 29, 2009 at 20:58:45

It didn't get pushed because of the Yogi movie. its now competing with it in December because of the move. I was never excited when i heard about this movie but it sounded like something i might want to see. With all the issues they have been having it wouldn't surprise me if it doesn't come out after something else goes wrong

Shocker.

Someone please explain to me why in the hell should any Smurfs movie be in 3-D, let alone on the silver screen? I mean, c'mon, what was once a fad in the 1980's will not hold up today. These execs are banking on the nostalgia factor, which is hardly there anymore. It's the reason why movies like "Leave It To Beaver," "Dennis The Menace," "Speed Racer," and ever the current "GI JOE" film do dissapointing box office -- THERE IS NOT AN UNQUENCHABLE HUNGER FOR THESE FILMS TO GET MADE!

And, seriously, "The Green Hornet"? Who's the genius that decided to green light this? "The Green Hornet" can either go two ways --

1. It can go the way of 1996's "The Phantom" in which nobody knew who or what the character was, and the original fanbase was either too old remember the character or dead. The movie tanked at the box office because it was decades late. The same I fear will happen to "The Green Hornet."

OR --

2. "The Green Hornet" can go the way of "Iron Man" in which a non-household name superhero is in a really good movie that people want to see not becuase of their love of the character, but just becuase word-of-mouth on the film is positive -- In short, people just want to see a good film regardless of what it's about. EMPHASIZE: GOOD FILM.

This movie just needs to go away, Rogan is a fat slob and will kill this movie. Why they are making it is beyond me. ****, Rogan is not even close to Van Williams!!! You need a suave person to play this part.

They might as well just hire me to direct this film. It still wouldn't make a difference. Anyways, back to drawing my "Batman vs. Bin Laden" comic book *draw, draw, scribble, scribble*

They're making a Yogi Bear movie? When the hell did this happen?

Posted by: OrangeRush 2112 on August 29, 2009 at 22:56:40

biggest mistake out of all of this was the fact that rogan even thought he could make this movie - second mistake was the douche that greenlit this pile of steaming shiiiiiit.

rogan - please go back to your comedies with the same ensemble cast that you are always attached to and the same observational jokes that permeate your movies.

Predators.....what's this? A Predator relaunch maybe sounds better then green hornet. Just leave the damn aliens out of it already!

Posted by: purewitz on August 30, 2009 at 01:19:05

Screw The Green Hornet, its all about Yogi and The Smurfs. I hope the title of the Yogi movie isn't just Yogi Bear, cause Boo-Boo should get equal billing in the movie too. Where would Yogi be with out his life-partner, Boo-Boo?

Posted by: Fanboiii on August 30, 2009 at 01:22:48

Seth Rogen is too lame to ever play a hero.

Posted by: Anicent Fanboy on August 30, 2009 at 03:05:58

I knew it. I just knew it. They kept saying they were starting soon and haven't even got the damn movie underway yet!
I honestly don't see this flick being that strong. I could be wrong but this just too risky.

Your ridiculous last time i checked there senorashish G.I Joe made over 25 million dollars which i highly doubt warrants a failure douche bag

Posted by: Jeffrey on August 30, 2009 at 06:39:18

250 million dollars i mean

Just another sign that at least someone at the distributor has a clue of how bad this project is actually going to turn out. Come on, moving it to avoid movies that haven't even began production yet, simply on title and director?

I truly hope Rogan takes the hint. Unless Uwi Bole does a "My Pretty Pony" adaptation, there's very little that *NOT* going to outshine the abomination he's trying to make (apparently now, simply out of spite). If he walks now and he's the just "that jackass that failed making his joke of a movie and went back to movies he could make".

But if he dosen't he's very much in danger of being the "jackass that made a box-office failure of a joke-movie..." and Rogan dosen't have the box-office record to bounce back from that.

It shouldn't be pushed back. It should be CANCELLED definetly. This movie will be a stinky comedy or something that won't make it good or it will be a DVD direct. I can't believe how stubborn they are with this project. If you want to see Green Hornet, see the Bruce Lee's show and that's enough.

Posted by: IT'S NOT A TUMOR on August 30, 2009 at 08:54:01

This is one of those 'why bother?' projects. I agree with Wolvy X. Cancel this one. Sounds like another Hollywood blunderfest. Like Starsky and Hutch!

Posted by: gunner on August 30, 2009 at 09:52:36

this really just need's to stop!!
at this point why bother anymore?
