Nicolas Cage in Talks for The Green Hornet

July 20, 2009

Columbia Pictures is in early talks with Nicolas Cage to play the gangster villain in The Green Hornet, reports Variety.

Cameron Diaz is negotiating to play a reporter and love interest in the Michel Gondry-directed film that stars Seth Rogen as the masked crime fighter.

The picture is moving full steam ahead for a fall start date, even as the studio looks to replace Stephen Chow, who was going to play sidekick Kato. Rogen and Evan Goldberg wrote the script and Neal Moritz is producing through his Original Films.

The Green Hornet is targeting a July 9, 2010 release

Good casting, I think this will be good, and remember people, it's a movie based on a campy TV show, not a real comic book, so stop with the hating, "oh I hate how they do this, I hate this person" cry me a river.

Gah. This is getting worse by the day.

Seth Rogen's role as Green Hornet in this film pretty much makes any other additions worthless in my eyes. Not that Nicolas Cage gets me very excited about seeing a movie in the first place. Nic's been on a dry spell since The Rock and Air America.

I just lost all interest in this movie. Cameron Diaz? Really? Don't even get me started on Nicolas Cage. He's like King Midas, only everything he touches turns to crap.

Posted by: carnage63 on July 20, 2009 at 23:26:26

What about Robin Shou from Mortal Kombat? I think he could be good as Kato.

T Bone, the series wasn't campy. It appears that way now because it was done in the 60's. For it's time, it was more pulp/serial stuff. I think people who voice negative opinions here share the same concerns I do; even if it were being done as a campy ode to the original material, Seth Rogan and Nicolas Cage don't inspire much faith. That, and no one wants to see a bad movie. I'm certain the Wachowski Brothers had the best intentions and were paying homage to campiness when they made Speed Racer. If you've seen it, you know why most people avoided it like the palgue. It was a horrible movie, regardless of what they set out to do with the film.

Clearly, I can't spell PLAGUE.

Are you freakin' kidding me? For the love of God, I think I would rather chew off my own foot than see this abomination that mocks a wonderful legacy... I can't stand Nicolas Cage! Bad enough he ruined Ghost Rider, why does he get to kill the Green Hornet movie, too?

Posted by: Toastjammer on July 20, 2009 at 23:31:39

Mark It Zero got it right. I dig Diaz, a little, but Cage? Marked for Death. Maybe he wants to see how many comic-movies he can bring down. Today, Ghost Rider and Kick-Ass. Tomorrow, the world!

who cares?

Posted by: T Bone on July 20, 2009 at 23:32:59

I am all for this movie, I loved it when I was a kid watching the reruns in the 80's, grant it, it could do without Seth, but still

T Bone. From Van Williams to Seth Rogan. Enough said.

Posted by: Van the Man on July 20, 2009 at 23:33:58

And clearly I can't spell Rogen, lol

Posted by: Owen Fletch on July 20, 2009 at 23:34:12

This whole green hornet movie, i just don't really have any hopes for it. I like Rogen as a funny guy but as the straight man action hero, i just don't know..........

Maybe they couldn't get Travolta. A sure sign your movie is crap is if Cage is in it. I wonder if they have to negotiate separately for his wig.

Why is Inspector Clousea's Korean man servant a superhero?
Burk Kwock, the original KAto, to reprise his role.

***snicker***

This project makes me laugh. And not in a good way.

@T Bone

You should do some research. The movie is based on a character that has been around since the thirties.

The Green Hornet was created by the same people who created the Lone Ranger. So much so that the Hornet is the Great Great Nephew of the Ranger.

Also if you go back to the watch the 60s shows you would find it wasn't anywhere near campy. People just say that because it was done by the same people who did the Batman show. Watch the GH show. The story lines were serious and well done for the time and the budget they had to work with.

I would have been a lot happier with the headline Nicolas Cage replaces Seth Rogan as the Green Hornet. I have a bad feeling Rogan is gonna kill any good qualities this movie might have had.

Posted by: Tarran on July 21, 2009 at 00:19:06

I have no problem with any of the actors. Cameron Diaz can be charming and a decent actress. Nic Cage has his moments, too; though in his defense to all the Ghost Rider nonsense, that movie would have sucked hard no matter who was in it. And I can see Rogen doing a more serious action role; he was already getting in shape for it months ago.

We don't know if this is going to be campy or not. Maybe it will have some genuine humor. Maybe it will have a more serious tone.

So whatever. We'll see when it comes out. :P

I can see it.......but then I worry I won't be able to take it seriously.

Posted by: zillaman on July 21, 2009 at 00:34:10

just a popcorn flick, no more than that like everything else. you like it or you hate it. can't like it or hate it if you haven't watched the movie right? do you cry baby's have to trash talk on everything? and as if you could do better, right! sure some wanabe brainiac will put his two cents in. but i don't care this post is full of idiot's. on to the nex topic cry baby's whhhaa whhhaa whhhaa...

Posted by: Mark It Zero on July 21, 2009 at 01:03:52

I hope you're not trying to build a house with that all straw man in your post.

Posted by: Steve on July 21, 2009 at 01:03:55

Just a matter of time before they cast John Cho as Kato.

Posted by: Get a life please? on July 21, 2009 at 01:07:55

Wow, can't believe how much you people take things so seriously. You're wa-wa-wa-ing about Nicholas Cage and Seth Rogan in The Green Hornet, but I think you're forgetting: It's The Frickin' GREEN HORNET. Is this Shakespeare??? No. It's a guy in a mask, chasing bad guys with ANOTHER guy in a mask. Get a life people. When I come on here to read headlines, I always dip down a bit to read your senseless posts, because SOMETIMES, I feel a bit entertained at your fanboy nonsense. But seriously: grow up, get a life. It's a hero flick, not a remake of Ben-Hur.
