ComingSoon.net has posted the weekend box office estimates, which show that G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra opened to over $100 million worldwide in three days:

The month of August kicked off with the long-awaited live action movie based on the popular Hasbro toys, comic books and cartoons as Stephen Sommers' G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (Paramount), starring Channing Tatum, Sienna Miller, Dennis Quaid and Marlon Wayans, took the top spot with an impressive $56.2 million (estimated) in 4,007 theaters, averaging roughly $14,000 per location. It takes its place as the fourth-biggest August opening of all time, and when one adds in the roughly $44 million grossed overseas this weekend, it makes "G.I. Joe" one of the top August openings of all time.

I was very impressed and had a blast watching that movie. I cannot wait for a sequel, they have so many places they can go with it. Good cast too!

The sequel should have Tom Hanks and be called, "G.I.Joe vs. The Volcano".

I liked it, but what was with the weird mouth on the Snake eyes costume?

The auful Cobra commander costume?

Should of been called fall of MARS.

How could you call it the rise of cobra with the word cobra in it twice or three times?

No Cobra symbols?

Fun ride but have some sort of resemblence to the source material.

was a great first movie and there was a cobra symbol in it on the side of cobra commanders sub and calling ppl names who like this movie isn't going to help any smart A$$ but if you think the movie sucked and you went to go see it thanks for giving it cash for the sequel that will really piss you off... HAIL COBRA

I am happy to see that the movie did great. I hope that all the advise from the people who love the movie and the ones that hate it make part two that much better. I think this director will hear us out. Plus part two of the Mummy was better in my view so I have the same hopes for this one.

PS and for all you haters go getsome help you guys take this movie thing way to serious.

i just checked this flick out a few hrs ago. and i have to say that it was a blast pure and simple! true it wasnt high on plot or drama, but what the hell do you expect from a movie based on a cartoon, that was designed to sell toys?
i suggest that you grab your popcorn and place you brain cruise control.......while you simply have fun watching a film like this.

YO JOE!!!! im looking forward to a sequal, nuff said.

I'm serious people are way to uptight about this. We all knew this wasn't going to be an academy award film. It is simple eye candy and enjoyable and laughable material to entertain us. I enjoyed it just because it didn't take itself way too seriously. People should take the hint.

Posted by: ben on August 10, 2009 at 06:11:25

terrible, just terrible, rachel nichols looked hot, and snakeeyes was cool, but the movie was just terrible

I'm glad to see it did so well, I enjoyed this movie very much, great cast and it was just alot of fun.
Can't wait for the sequal.

Look fools the movie was awesome you know if i, Cobra Commander, showed up to your house in my movie costume you would bow to your knees! so dont hate! Got to admit was so much better than Van Helsing!!! COBRA!!!!!!!!

Saw it. It was okay. It was definitely void of anything memorable, but it wasn't a bad movie. Definitely not memorable enough to get on DVD/Blu-ray.

I enjoyed the film, it had some great scenes and a very good cast. Loved all the battle scenes including the Paris chase.
I will be getting this on DVD, loved this film.

Mediocrity at his best!.....wow what a disappointment! and still there are people that said it was Ok ha what a Joke, i mean i now that the baroness was Hot, but what about Duke?? the worst casting ever!! Cobra was stupid Destro another Joke, i mean if a i wanted a could have stayed at home and watch a real battle in Star Wars trilogy a not underwater! What a Joke!

Posted by: The Tick on August 10, 2009 at 08:20:41

My honest opinion and that's all it is...if it wasn't for Snake-Eyes and Storm Shadow this movie would've stunk; however, with that being said it is safe to assume that a sequel is going to be in the works and it will be much better. A few things I didn't like about the movie was that you could tell when the CGI was being used it was almost blatant, and both Destro and Cobra Commander I didn't really care for them at least how they looked. One huge question is what is going to happen to the Baroness' storyline?

Fun movie. I really enjoyed it. The kinda of movie people used to enjoy without being a wanna-be movie critic.

Posted by: Wolverine_X on August 10, 2009 at 08:31:37

It's not better than Transformers. Transformers 2 was a lot Better. Actually it looks like a sort of the same movie concept like Transformers camera action.

I hope in the next one they make characers with different suits because Accelerators Suits look like Halo game and it's not GI JOe.

The best was Snake eyes but that mouth was so Awfull. Why they didn't do it like it was on the poster??? With no mouth??? If the guy doesn't talk then he don't need no mouth designed.

Posted by: Wolverine_X on August 10, 2009 at 08:33:02

And Sienna Miller has her little boobs all pushed up. The best was Snake Eyes not her eh eh

Posted by: doublej on August 10, 2009 at 08:35:01

The movie wasn't that good. duke talked like he's a ******. just like the tick said, if it wasn't for snake eye this movie would of sucked. duke and the barnoness, come on we all know the baroness had a thing for destro. the movie was a joke on us! it just shows, we don't know what a good movie is anymore.

The conversation between my eight year old son and I immediately after the movie sums it up for how we both felt about it.

My son: Best! Movie! EVER!
Me: Even over Star Trek?
My son: (Shocked and apalled.) NO!

I loved the movie. It was slick. It was cool. It was awesome good guys kicking bad guy butt. It was exactly what it was intended to be, a toy/comic/cartoon movie. The reviews that I read beforehand were dead on. If you expect Shakespeare meets Saving Private Ryan, don't bother. If you were a fan of the cartoon, you'll love it.

Best movie ever? No. Did it pick my son and I up and take us along for one heck of a ride? Oh yeah.

I thought the movie was great! I was sceptical at first, but was wowed. It's a good beginning to this franchise. I like the fact they kept cobra commanders roots as a mad scientist. Also Destto was the leader of the terrorist cobra before Cobra commander. The action scenes were flawless, edgy and fun. Hats off to Snake eyes and Storm Shadow. The idea of having no mouth piece on snake eyes further captures the mystery behind him(Code of silence). That was a fantastic mention right there. I'm a huge fan of Martial arts! They added the cheesy lines without overkill. Im ready for the sequel already. bring on Roadblock, shipwreck, Flint, Lady Jaye, Sgt Slaughter, Tomax & Xamot, & Serpentor. I'm reliving my youth . Yo Joe!!!!!!

the best thing abou tthis movie was the Baroness' ass and scarlett's smoking hot body! Cover girl was a huge bonus! the movie was just alright. nothing more nothing less.

Posted by: Byrdman on August 10, 2009 at 09:10:43

I thought the movie was entertaining. It's not rocket science, you go to movies to escape reality. And, GI Joe did that. Look at it for what its worth a movie with little story and great action. They did a great job on Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow. My only problem, I would like to see more of the Zartan story. Hope they make a 2nd movie

Hey it's great to see Hollywood bringing back my childhood memories to life. The movie rocked and snakeyes was badass. It was pure fun and to me had more explosions than transformers 2. I can't for the sequel.

and knowing is have the battle!

I love film, and movies...

This was exactly what one should expect from a summer move made by a toy company about army toys. It was allot of fun, it had tons of Hasbro product placement :) and it was action packed.
I enjoyed it with a large Dr. Pepper and some pretzel bites...all you arm chair directors/writers/film-makers need to chillax and stop taking yourself, and fluff movies so seriously.

( and because I haven't seen "Serpentor" post here in a minute..I gotta say " THIS I COMMAND!!)

wow, i've seen some idiots on here but you the Spoiler take the cake, and I dont even care for GI JOE.
