G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra Reviewed
Source:Superhero Hype!
August 6, 2009

Superhero Hype! got a chance to check out Stephen Sommers' G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra early and we've posted our review. Here's a clip:

Overall, "G.I. Joe" might be admired as one of the more fun and entertaining movies of the summer, especially if you're able to put your brain in neutral and enjoy the action and spectacle Sommers brings to every scene without expecting any sort of depth or intelligence. Fans of the "Real American Hero" will probably get slightly more out of it.

I'm checking this out, how bad can it really be? Regardless of the reviews, this is a fun popcorn movie.

Saw this movie with no expectations and i have to admit.. it was cool dude.

Come off your high horse, grab a brew, chill in your lounge chair, and enjoy life.. ya dipstick.

action is good - acting is bad and the story is predictable.

YO JOE!!!! ROCKS!!

Nobody cares what you say either.

I've been hearing good things. I think I'll check it out. I definately have more faith in this than in Transformers 2, which I refuse to see. The first one was bad enough.

Posted by: Drunkalete on August 6, 2009 at 13:40:18

Nothing can be worse than X-men Origins. I'll gladly see this

Posted by: yo joe - blows! on August 6, 2009 at 13:41:35

transformers - don't even get me started with the 2nd transformers movie. those gangstafied twins did it for me. what was michael bay thinking?

Posted by: Philvis on August 6, 2009 at 13:43:36

I'm not getting the internet reviewers I have read so far. G.I. Joe gets a pass for bad acting, story, overall cheesiness, and it is spun to be a no brainer type movie that is just fun. Over a month ago, however, Transformers 2 was ripped to shreds for the same thing. What am I not getting?

A few friends and I will be seeing this Saturday. It looks very good and the reviews have been very positive, I'm very much looking forward to the film.

didnt expext it to be great, hoped to see some good action w/snake eyes. but ill wait for dvd for this one

Just because it's a summer movie doesn't mean you have to throw all standards out the window. It's like comics, some are good, some are not. Just because it's a comic doesn't mean we have to enjoy it. Likewise just because it's a popcorn flick doesn't mean you can't dislike it or any aspect of it. I'll be waiting for the dvd myself.

I've more or less lost my respect for Sommers with The Mummy Returns but i'm always willing to give a movie a chance.

Posted by: Ranting Jaromir on August 6, 2009 at 14:10:30

I keep trashing this movie, and I know that to some degree that I'm right, but I am willing to give this movie a chance and will most likely view it on a Sunday night or something. But if I'm wrong I will come on here and eat my own words.

What the...?! One week ago everyone and their brother was slamming this movie as the stupidest thing on earth...now everyone is like "well, it looks pretty cool!" Just goes to prove that all those "critics" don't always know what the hell they're talking about, huh?! GOOD!

Posted by: Fart-bot on August 6, 2009 at 14:24:21

Fun doesn't necessarily have to be stupid. This kind of thinking lowers the bar for everyone.

Unless you're happy being stupid, then that is your right.

GI Joe was my favorite toy as a kid. Now my son is getting all into GI Joe because of the movie. So we will be checking it out together. And for me that's what it's all about.

I'm a senior Citizen... JOE ROCKS DUDES!!!!!

Posted by: Honest Fan on August 6, 2009 at 14:56:43

I liked it and got out of it exactly what I thought I would. It's not Schindler's List and it's not going to win any Oscars, but it's better than many of the 'popcorn' movies we've been fed recently and it was exactly what I expected.
Bring on Iron Man 2, Green Lantern, and Different Strokes: The Movie!

Posted by: Soto on August 6, 2009 at 14:56:55

I really am looking forward to this. Before I was against it, but now when I think about it can't be all that bad. If what I hear is true about JUST THINK AS IF YOU PLAYING PRETEND AND YOUR CREATING A BIG MOVIE SET OUT OF ACTION FIGURES WHEN YOU WERE 8 is true, then I'll see this in theaters full price. Hell we all need a good mindless action movie, and hopefully this is the movie for the summer. We'll see, YO JOE!

Posted by: Cullenprime on August 6, 2009 at 14:57:55

Andrew K you are an idiot. Transformers 1 and 2 are way better than GI Joe. Although I haven't seen it yet, just by the previews I've seen of GI Joe I know it's nowhere near the Transformers movies

heManofBronze if you don't like this site then don't come back to it. Don't worry we won't miss you.

To: Yo Joe Blows:

It's based on a cartoon why wouldn't be predictible. It is a popcorn flix. Your not solving the misteries of the universe. With things as srtessful as they are right now i think a nice predictible and uncomplicated entertainment is right up some of our allies. I for one will enjoy the escapism this weekend. And knowing is half the battle! Yo Joe!
