I think they should have taken a different approach with this and made it more realistic...like a Saving Private Ryan Style. Would have drawn people in.

This movie is too much like the comic book style movies out there now (not that I am against them personally). Yeah, I know it was a cartoon but it had a serious tone.

But what do I know, it may be serious...

The more I see, the more I'm kinda excited to see it. Honestly, it's really because I don't have much of a bond with these characters. I watched the cartoon and had some toys back in the day, but that's it. So however the characters are portrayed I'll probably be fine with (although, I do agree with most that Cobra Cmdr's look right now sux).

Unlike, Transformers, where I know every character, feel more connected to the TF universe, and really want a great story to come out of the movie (which I don't felt we really got this last time around...wasn't horrible, but not what I was hoping for)

@ culvi

You thought the cartoon has a "serious tone"? Really? I don't remember it that way at all, I remember a cartoon where nobody ever really got hurt, the good guys always won, and people had crazy names like Sgt. Slaughter! And I hope the movie follows suit!! Yo Joe!!

I think it looks great. Love the Kid Rock song over the preview. Looking forward to it.

@Ripfart

you obviously don't hang around military folk in the field. call signs tend to go in that vein.

Looks Awesome!!!!!!!

That second trailer is the best one that they've had so far. It almost makes look like this movie won't totally suck...

Make an assessment!

Posted by: Ron Burgandy on July 14, 2009 at 12:31:34

I don't know about this movie....smells kind of fishy!

Posted by: Rod Pecker on July 14, 2009 at 12:31:52

As a story, GI Joe will be better than Transformers ROTF. But it will not make as much money because the fanboys aren't totally behind this one.

Posted by: NeoSamurai on July 14, 2009 at 12:44:12

@Rod Pecker

not necessarily. There was huge fanboy rage for when the first Transformers hit the screens and people saw the initial designs.

the problem is that 1)GIJoe was never as popular as Transformers and 2) movies aimed at making military look good are not postive in the public consciousness right now.

this is a POPCORN FILM! why is everyone going crazy that it wont win any oscars. this is gonna be a really fun movie to watch in theatres and the BluRay will be very fun to watch.

its not taking it self seriously which is a good thing, i mean these are based off of TOYS! so dont gimme the History behind this, same thing with TF. THEY ARE TOYS!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: NeoSamurai on July 14, 2009 at 13:03:44

"popcorn film" is no excuse for crap quality--not saying this is crap quality. neither is "summer flick" "not intended to win oscars" is no excuse for shoddy work.

neither is the excuse: "They're based off toys!". if that's the case, why put millions of dollars into the project in this economy.

it's a crap argument. there's low expectations and then there's "we'll eat our own crap if it has a bright shiny package."

Looks great, I am really looking forward to this film, it reminds me alot of the animated series.

this looks awesome cant wait to see it and you hater take your *****ing somewhere else

Posted by: John on July 14, 2009 at 13:55:42

Were people really expecting a serious, dark version of GI Joe? Does anyone remember that show? It was marketed towards 5-10 year olds for heaven's sake.

This is like people getting upset that the Power Rangers movie wasn't more Blade Runner than the series itself.

Posted by: Metallic Blue on July 14, 2009 at 14:10:14

This movie looks a lot of fun. I will be there opening day!

Posted by: Anton Ego on July 14, 2009 at 14:41:40

I'm a hater. This movie will blow chunks.

Posted by: the ButnakedAvenger on July 14, 2009 at 15:05:02

that looks like a whole lot of nutty, action packed fun. that second trailer was definitely the better of the two, probably the best yet.

If Duke actually headbutts him as a reply in the movie, i'll be a happy man.

I'm ready to see **** blow up.

Posted by: COLE8.7 on July 14, 2009 at 15:36:52

^^^then you should see my mind every time someone says this movie looks good...BA-BOOOM!!!

ps. Yes, I am a hater...(of bad movies)

Writing a G.I.Joe live action movie based off the original DIC and Sunbow cartoons is just ridiculous. The cartoons yes geared for young boys was campy and satiristic. Definitely not the route to go if you want to attract a broad audience spectrum. But when you look at the trailers, you realize it's not based off the original series. It's based off the laughable and wholly unsuccessful Sigma 6 series. Set in a supposed future with futuristic gear and weapons. They've taken too much from the cartoons. The comics, even DDP's take on Joe are a much better jumping point for a live action.

I have no problem with a few creative liberties here and there. But this one has gone too far. They've even added an interracial love affair between Ripcord and Scarlett. Why? So they can draw in one more minority crowd. But Scarlett and Snake Eyes did have a thing in the past, but they don't make great mention of it in the script. More of a passing thing. Appearantly Duke and Baroness are ex-lovers and can't pull the trigger against each other in the film. Baroness and Cobra Commander are siblings. But she doesn't know he's still alive and is in the Cobra organization disguised as a "doctor". Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes are brothers, but there's no real drama between them.

If all or any of these spoilers end up true. Then this is going to be the worst comic adaptation ever.

It's a pretty big accomplishment for a movie to be the worst one of the year, considering how bad Wolverine, Terminator, Transformers and Dragonball were, but if any movie has heavy odds in it's favour it's G.I. Joke. Everything they show looks worse than the last. Spy Kids 2 meets Street Fighter bad.

Posted by: IGC on July 14, 2009 at 16:35:04

Come on now Hex. The Original Street Fighter movie wasn't that bad. At least everyone knew it was going to be the way it was. RoC wants to be a serious movie.
