G.I. Joe Filming Update

March 11, 2008

The Prague Daily Monitor has posted an update on the filming for Paramount's G.I. Joe, to be directed by Stephen Sommers and starring Dennis Quaid, Channing Tatum, Sienna Miller, Ray Park, Rachel Nichols, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Said Taghmaoui, Marlon Wayans, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Arnold Vosloo and Christopher Eccleston:

The shooting of the U.S. high-budget action film GI JOE will start in Prague's Barrandov studios in May, Barrandov spokeswoman Dusana Chrenekova told CTK Monday.

GI JOE is directed by Stephen Sommers who in the past shot another film in the Czech Republic - Van Helsing (2003).

"The film, based on a strip cartoon, with a 170 million dollar budget will be premiered next year," Chrenekova said.

You can read more on this here. The studio is planning an August 7, 2009 release.

First!

Here's hoping this movie is good. Considering how Paramount did with Transformers it should be good.

The big trap will be modernizing and making it relevant to the times. It still has to be badass though!

Wow, didn't know the budget would be THAT big. Nice.

Man...I cant wait till pics of the characters are leaked...I cant wait to see how snake-eyes and storm shadow will look. And damn 170 million dollar budget...SWEET! Latinoreview.com gave a script review of G.I. Joe, it didnt stay on the site too long because Paramount told tthem to take it down...but they were raving about the script, and gave it an A+_

to: ObiWanCon....if you mean whos play Duke, its a young actor name Channing Tatum. he was the guy in the first Step Up movie. But forget that...Ray park is Snake-Eyes...that was excellent casting.

I've never really been into G.I. Joe, but the movie sounds really interesting. It's got a lot of good stars and I might have to check it out when it hits theatres. I hope it ends up looking good.

Posted by: TheKillingJoke on March 11, 2008 at 19:51:17

movie is gonna tank..all actors involved are just okay...quaid hasnt made anything relevant in a decade, tatum cant fufill his potential, gordan levitt is another one who isnt fufilling his potential, sienna miller is the kiss of death, the only actor worth watching is adewale...long live adebisi...the movie is up there with Justice League...no one should see this...not even people who did like g i joe

Marlon Wayans stinks up every film he's in. He's the first of two anchors around this movie's neck. The second is director Stephen "League Of Extraordinary Gentleman" Sommers. Why they gave this hack another gig after that Van Helsing trainwreck I'll never know.

GI JOE movie.....sounds cool. Just as long as Snake Eyes and Snow Storm are in it. Those two characters are one of the reasons why i use to watch it back when i was a kid....

Snake Eyes & "Snow Storm"? What the hell cartoon were you watching? The character's name is Storm Shadow...

I hope at teh end of the movie, they have one of those "kids stay away from fire" warnings like they did in the T.V. Pure gold!

"The shooting of the U.S. high-budget action film GI JOE will start in Prague's Barrandov studios in May"...

Why not shoot the U.S. high-budget film in the U.S.? Is there something wrong with filming here?

Posted by: gtrman on March 11, 2008 at 21:49:34

Oh yeah, and since Marlon Wayans is a comedian and not an actor (at least if he is to be judged by his actual acting ability), I can safely guess this movie will be pure comedy genius!

WHO THE HELL IS COBRA GONNA BE PLAYED BY????

Ive heard hes only gonna appear at the end of the movie but Im not buyin that bullsh**!!!

Posted by: Kamenrider J on March 11, 2008 at 22:12:59

This pic should be worth the price of a ticket.I mean Ray Parks as Snake-Eyes...that alone is goin to get asses in seats. Then you get to see Storm Shadow and him kick the **** out of each other. Everything else should'nt matter.

gtrman,

the film IS shooting in the US right now. But the film will span the globe, hense other shooting locations.

Also COST has a lot to do with where a film will lense. LA is expensive.

Posted by: John on March 11, 2008 at 23:45:46

Cobra Commander isn't Cobra Commander until the end of the film.

But Joseph Gordon-Levitt is playing a character called REX who eventually BECOMES Cobra Commander in the film.

He is a villain in the style of Emperor Palpatine in that he pulls the strings.

Destro is the Vader of this film, along with Baroness.

Does anyone know who is playing Cobra Commandor

Posted by: B. Trask on March 12, 2008 at 00:39:56

If one more person asks who's going to play Cobra Commander, I'm going to embark on a killing spree the likes of which this world has never seen.

TheKillingJoke said '' Stephen 'LXG' Sommers '' as one of the reasons GI Joe would be rubbish. It was actually Stephen NORRINGTON (of Blade fame) who directed The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, not Sommers.

Sorry TheKillingJoke, i miss quoted you. I was referring to a comment by Bad Monkey. My apologies
