Source:Jeff Rago
April 6, 2009
ComingSoon.net/Superhero Hype! talked exclusively to Justin Chatwin, Emmy Rossum, James Marsters and Jamie Chung about starring in Dragonball: Evolution, opening in theaters on Friday, April 10.
In the big screen adaptation of the popular Japanese manga created by Akira Toriyama, Chatwin plays the heroic Goku, a powerful warrior who protects the Earth from an endless stream of rogues bent on dominating the Universe and controlling the mystical objects from which the film takes its name. Rossum is Bulma, a beautiful woman intent on retrieving the mystical Dragonballs for her own reasons; Chung is Chi Chi, a young martial artist who captures Goku's eye; and Marsters plays the villain, Lord Piccolo.

still on the fence about the movie
Posted by: ARTaylor on April 6, 2009 at 02:38:25
On the fence? Still? I'm skipping this entirely. Pretending it doesn't exist, like Zombie's Halloween or DOA: Dead or Alive.
I'll stick to the show that I fell in love with and not give them one cent of my hard earned money.

It's really great to see how the cast more or less knew the source material. It's a damn shame that they weren't given a proper script or film staff to back up the movie and bring it to greater heights though. Shame.

James Marsters is the man! Looking forward to this movie.

Posted by: Nick on April 6, 2009 at 04:46:33
I saw this movie online tho i aint from japan and this movie was a piece of **** dude literally... and its more like a 7 year old wrote this script... james wong is by far the worst director who ever lived and should be fired and hung for directing the best cartoon into a piece of **** movie that ever lived real talk

why do people do this? Why do they feel that they have to make it extremely life like action? This story could be told so well on the big screen in cgi or even just somehow meshed real life with heaps of effects like in 300 or something. owell.

IS ALL THIS THAT HARD? I MEAN, DO THE "POWERS THAT BE" SET OUT TO MAKE MOVIES THAT STRAY SO FAR FROM THE SOURCE MATERIAL? IS IT THAT THEY WANT TO GIVE THEIR TAKE ON IT? IS THIS ABOUT ARTISTIC EXPRESSION? IS THAT IT? AND IF SO, WOULD WE DO THE SAME? HOW TRUE WOULD WE STAY TO WHAT WE KNOW IS THE TRUTH? IT BOGGLES THE MIND TO THINK THAT SOME OF THESE PEOPLE WHO MAKE THESE MOVIES HAVE THAT LITTLE INTELLIGENCE OR THAT MUCH NEED TO FEEL FULFILLED BY CHANGING WHAT WE LOVE SO MUCH.

Just saw the movie and i suggest ppl listen to these suggestions.
Dont go to watch this movie alone, i suggest u go with a bunch of friends drunk so u can actually enjoy this movie by making fun of it.
Loyal fans of dbz plz do not watch this movie because Fox has completely butchered dragon ball because of these reasons..Spoiler alert...
Goku doesnt have a tail and transforms into the oozaru (which is only 7 ft tall compared to the 100ft monster in the manga) and he transforms because of an eclipse not from the full moon.
The oozaru apparently is piccolo's henchman...wtf...why
Goku landed on earth on a meteor not on a space pod..he also doesnt have a tail as a baby.
Gohan is alive and is killed by piccolo not by goku's oozaru form like in the manga.
Yamcha doesnt even fight once in the movie.
Bulma carries guns (but she is hot)
Chi chi is a horrible actress and a high school slut
The kamehamaha wave was such a dissapointment
Piccolo is still alive after the movie which means the sequel will be based on the old piccolo still not the young piccolo
goku has brown hair and goes to high school where he gets picked on
fighting scenes sucked, cgi sucked
master roshi dies in the dumbest way and gets wished back to life from the dragon which doesnt speak, looks childish and corny, doesnt make the sky dark, and goes away in literally 5 secs.
The movie is an hour long and they rushed through that ****. Mai was stupid, that was a dumb idea to have a shapshifting mai who can ALMOST kill goku with a ****ing gun

...Well those of you who have not seen this movie... go and feel free to watch it... but don't expect to this movie will give you your moneys worth...
the next time they make a dragonball movie should be in cgi like what they did in ff7 advent children...
'hope wolverine does not dissapoint like this... I've seen deadpool shoot optic blasts... from the trailer and thats so not him...

it was a waste making it

he just looks like spike painted green and a deeper voice

Oh, and another thing (I just watched this interview now), James Masters is wrong about Piccolo. He's not the same Piccolo as Dragonball Z "only angrier". He's his father.

Whenever I thought of Goku I always thought of Justin Chatwin. Now that I look back, all the drawings I did in middle school of Goku look exactly like Justin Chatwin, and he wasn't even famous then. Whenever I dream I'm in the Dragonball Z world Goku looks exactly like Justin Chatwin.
I bet when the creators designed Goku they had Justin Chatwin's future adult self in mind. They were like, "let's pick a random white kid and make this cool Asian character look like what that white kid may look like in the future. Then when he gets older let's cast him as an Asian."
Bottom line, Justin Chatwin was born to be Goku. I cannot wait for this movie, and for next year's Oscars when I know this movie will win all 9 of its nominations, including best actor for Justin Chatwin. Hey, if Robert Downey can play a black guy, Justin Chatwin can play an Asian guy. He's just as good.

HAHAHAHA I needed that laugh. Can't everybody tell from the commercials and footage online that whomever wrote and made this movie:
a: Didn't have the fans in mind
b. Doesn't know the story
This is akin to someone making a Batman movie, and then Batman shows up in a yellow and red cape drives around in a dune buggy, and people say, "Oh, I can't wait for this movie, it looks so cool!'
What a joke. Fox should be ashamed. Go make $10 million, take a loss and never touch this material again.

Things like Dragonball and Power Rangers are what happens when Pokemon reaches the awkwardness of puberty.

God, Emmy is pretty. Too bad the movie isn't any good :(
Posted by: mojojackson on April 6, 2009 at 10:33:22
Which actor is playing Pikachu?
Posted by: Alex Trebek's 'stache on April 6, 2009 at 10:36:17
