Charles Roven on the Next Batman Film
Source:Heather Newgen
January 8, 2009

Superhero Hype! caught up with The Dark Knight producer Charles Roven on the red carpet of the 14th Annual Critics Choice Awards in Santa Monica, California.

The film was up for six Critics Choice Awards and took home two - one for Best Action Movie and Heath Ledger won for Best Supporting actor. Christopher Nolan accepted the award on Ledger's behalf and said, "He will be incredibly missed."

We asked Roven the status of the next film and he said, "Right now even though I'm the producer of 'The Dark Knight' I'm kind of like everybody. I'm waiting to see what Chris [Nolan] and David Goyer come up with and if they come up and decide if there is something worthy of making another iteration of Batman and 'The Dark Knight'... The most important thing right now like we did with the last one is that we want to make sure there is a reason to make it. In other words feel like we can do something different than we had done before. We felt we had accomplished that. If we find that again, then I think we'll come back to the floor. If we don't, I don't know what we'll do."

We asked him if he personally thought there is a story for a third film and he told us, "I would certainly like to see one get made."

People relax... The Dark Knight was such a good movie and it was executed very well, We don't want to Rush it and end up having a horrible Batman Franchise like....Joel Shumacher's Bataman Version.

Nolan is a perfectionist and a realist, and aren't we so happy that finally Nolan has given us THE FANS the Batman that we deserve?? so cool it...I'm sure they will make another one, it made Half a billion and more all over the world..so I'm sure the sharks @ WB wants another one.

Besides even if Nolan decides not to, TDK's ending was enough to satisfy the Batman franchise...it was just perfect!

Right???...

I'd like to see what Batman has learned from his battle with the Joker in terms of his strategies to keep Gotham safe -- is that sonar device he built in TDK to find the Joker just the beginning of how fascist he'll become?
It would also be nice to see what villain in Batman's rogues gallery would fill the vacuum of leadership in Gotham's gangs since the Joker's in 'jail' and all three of the main gang leaders were killed in TDK. (I'd say Two-Face would be a perfect fit if he wasn't killed off in TDK)
Or, even cooler. What if they had Batman face off against fellow billionaire Lex Luthor? How cool would that be??

I want more nipples!

Posted by: jono on January 9, 2009 at 01:55:26

all i want is nolan 2 tell everyone yes and who is the new rogue please take me out of this hell nolan

Posted by: bruce is TDK on January 9, 2009 at 02:00:53

Haha I feel you Jono, I too cant wait wether he'd make another Batman movie.

I tell you this though, if he's not in the next Batman project, it's gonna take a lot of convincing for me to even see that movie...that's if..

in the meantime, we just have to be patient. TDK's been winning in awards such as peoples choice and critics choice awards...awesome just awesome.

It's gonna take maybe another three years before we see another Batman movie.

3rd films im all franchises usually suck. ie superman 3, spider-man 3, batman forever, x-men 3, blade trinity, ect... i hope they dont make another.

@ Bruce is TDK...that was seriously the best post I have EVER read on SHH. Thank god there's someone out there with a brain.

i had a dark knight story for you... what if we had a villain such as ClayFace but without the power(his full force) just his shape-shifting abilities where he could enter as anyone while batman tries to figure out who he is now. The plot maybe for ClayFace to soon become President of America another villain would be catwoman (i hope its jessica alba) who would fall-in-love with batman (vice-versa) and would try to convince batman to go to the darkside...

Thanks Barber23.

I really appreciate that.

Let's all hope 4 a great 3rd Batman.

ok, the issue isnt IF they will make another one, by they I mean WB. Its money made, so WB WILL make another batman movie. The problem is that they will make another one with or without nolan and company. We have seen batman challenged on a physical level in the first film, and on a moral level in the second, I really want to see him challenged on an intellectual level in the third, for which, naturally, I think the Riddler is best to accomplish. but getting any old director to sit in for nolan if he doesnt want to do it, just creates B3, as in, X3. Or forcing nolan to take things a certain direction, ala spidey 3. We are going to get more batman. The question is will it live up to the batman of the past two films, and will the same creative team be involved.

Kramer as riddler and Jason Alexander as Penguin...and Elaine as Cat Woman ... jerry to revamp Joker

I feel like if the only reason keeping Nolan, Goyer and Roven sceptical on a third installment is that they feel like they cant bring anything more the story, why not push for The Dark Knight Returns (something many fans have always wanted to see on film). Possibly (maybe slightly unrealistic) timing it with the hopeful success of the rumored Superman restart. A dark knight returns film would be phenomel, and allow a way to bring the Joker back without being bound to the late Heath Ledger(as the character would be nearly twenty five years older). My personal aging Bruce Wayne hopeful....Daniel Day Lewis. It would require some reworking of the story, as Harvey is dead. But I see it working, and an easy way for WB to weave Nolan's Batman universe in with other DC heroes and their film franchises. Sort of the opposite of what Marvel did. Introduce several DC heroes in The Dark Knight Returns, get them some hype and publicity, then spring them off into "prequels" (Green Arrow, The Flash, Green Lantern, Superman, Wonderwoman).

Batman 3 should be Bruce rebuilding and taking a short break from batman, when he realizes that Gordon can't keep the city clean on his own anymore the bat returns to vindicate himself from the events of TDK, Harvey has taken over the mob and Gordon is at a constant battle with the ex DA, Harvey seeks revenge on batman and batman seeks to rehabilitate Harvey, mean while freaks such as the black mask/roman sionis challenge Bruce in the boardroom and in the streets and toughest of all a puzzle crazed murderer named Edward nygma terrorized Gotham under the guidence of the incarcerated joker...Bruce deals with all of this while at the same time is being courted by a leather suited woman who won't take no for an answer...a lot going on but I think it works....

$$$$$$$$$

I think there will be a third Batman, now who ends up directing it, is another question. if after the re-release, it manages to sink the boat, then you know WB will want another movie. and if Chris Nolan takes too long to decide what to to do, then they might get someone else to do it. all they want is product and profit. if TDK makes over $600 million, then the next will and the one after that and so on. as far as story line, it would be interesting to see what happens. i also read somewhere, i don't know how true this is, both Aaron Eckhart and Maggie Gyllenhal are signed for the next Batman movie. but as far as the the next one, with Batman on the run from the cops and having to protect Gotham City from the villians, it would make a great storyline.

@ metallica. a lot was going on in spidr-man 3. too much in fact. that was what was wrong with it. a lot going on may not be the best route to go. rember batman and robin?

Posted by: DoughBoyMontez on January 9, 2009 at 03:34:03

i hope they take their time and let nolan do it when he's ready. there's no doubt that there is gonna be a third film.

Posted by: hulk smash on January 9, 2009 at 03:35:52

if they do another i would like to see his intellect challenged. the riddler and bane would be perfect. but bane would have to be done right. he is super smart and i was so upset with his portrayal in BandR. it took the joker years figure out he was bruce wayne. it took bane A DAY.
