Aaron Eckhart on Two-Face

SPOILER ALERT!: The following article spoils certain aspects of The Dark Knight. If you have not seen the movie, turn back now!

Yes, it's true. Aaron Eckhart says goodbye to Batman. At the press day for his upcoming indie film Towelhead, ComingSoon.net/Superhero Hype! talked to the actor who portrayed Harvey Dent/Two-Face in The Dark Knight. He told us he's definitely not signed on for another film and confirmed his character is dead.

Eckhart laughed about how he tried to ask if there was a chance he was coming back and was good-humored about the deadly fate of Dent.

CS/SHH!: Is Harvey Dent alive?
Aaron Eckhart: No. He is dead as a door nail.

CS/SHH!: So he's not coming back?
Eckhart: He ain't coming back baby!

CS/SHH!: I was hoping he would.
Eckhart: No. I asked Chris [Nolan] that question and he goes, "You're dead" before I could even get the question out of my mouth. "Hey Chris, am I?" "You're dead!" Alright, cool.

CS/SHH!: That's not a problem in comic book movies. You could still come back.
Eckhart: I think in contract negotiations it's a problem.

CS/SHH!: So you were never signed on for another film?
Eckhart: No, I'm not coming back. I think unfortunately, Heath [Ledger] was supposed to go on and that didn't work out. I'm nobody. I'm a cog. I have no say over this sort of stuff. I'm sure that there's so many other characters that they could whip together. I heard Angelina Jolie was going to be Catwoman or something like that. I thought that was a great idea. I'd like to be in that one.

CS/SHH!: It must be gratifying that so many people responded to your character.
Eckhart: Yeah, I dig it. Write your Congressman. I like that for the first time in my career I'm getting fan mail from kids and 8-year-olds. "My name is Bill. I really liked the film." I've never had that before. I think that's fun. I think someone told me they're going to be Harvey Two-Face for Halloween which is cool. I said to two kids the other day, "Did you see Batman yet?" Then I come to find out like two seconds later they've seen it four times. People are really going back to see it. My parents saw it I think 12 [times] so far. They're sick that it's going out of the theaters.

CS/SHH!: Do they normally see your movies 12 times?
Eckhart: I don't know about 12, but they like to go see the movies. They like to go see the audience. They like to tell people that I'm in the movie like popcorn people.

They should do two face again. And don't do any other bad guys. YOU ONLY NEED ONE!!!!!!!

Posted by: Kerchakone on September 3, 2008 at 21:42:22

Oh and seriously, batman should be the coolest guy in his own movie. Robocop with a helmet and bath towel cape man is NOT COOL.

Posted by: dontfearmereaper on September 3, 2008 at 21:44:30

Chris Nolan won't bring people back from the dead. He's too much of a realist. And, in that realist world, a man with a face like that couldn't survive for long. Let it be and move on.

This is a real disappointment.

Posted by: X-Fan#1 on September 3, 2008 at 21:46:55

damn, i wanted to see more two-face

Posted by: gdw on September 3, 2008 at 21:47:39

Damn, they really could have done so much more with his character.

What they did was great, but to leave it at that is REALLY underusing him.

Posted by: Wolverine_X on September 3, 2008 at 21:48:29

Two face = Venom. Two great characters that the directors killed. Too sad. And they both have in common only a few minutes on each movie. Why kill them??? The question remains...

Posted by: DONNIE on September 3, 2008 at 21:49:16

I liked what they did with the character. It was what two-face was meant to be. I hated the make-up job with Tommy Lee Jones. The dark knight did an excellent job. They should bring back Eckhart as a main villian and let his character evolve further.

Posted by: kyle on September 3, 2008 at 21:52:26

Aw, there would have been more Joker for sure?!? dammit Heath why'd you have to go and die?

Posted by: JoeTorre on September 3, 2008 at 21:52:54

Uhh, Two Face isn't like Venom AT ALL. Venom is a crappy, wayyy overrated character that for some ridiculous reason has a huge fanbase. Two Face has a back bone and some depth, and what was done with him was done. Great job by Chris Nolan with that character...

He was a great character, but there are plenty of others for a third film, and plenty who have never been on the big screen. Killer Croc, Black Mask, Clay Face, Harley Quinn.

And does anyone else think they're gonna make Gordon's son Robin? Seems like it to me.

YEa its a bit disapointing to hear he isnt coming back, now when i saw the film i thought he was dead. But then people where talking different theories and he could be alive if they wanted to. But yea there is so many other characters that should be done like riddle/peguin/catwoman, or maybe a character who never been done in live action like mad hatter, clock king, scarface, etc..

maybe he'll be back, we dont know yet, its just a stragety to see how people react about this and think where or how to go with the story i still have my hopes, anyways whatever happens ill be ok

Posted by: cattimus on September 3, 2008 at 21:59:48

I couldv'e sworn in the movie Two-Face was not "DEAD" and that batman simply took the fall so that Harvey's reputation would not get ruined, and that the funeral was just a cover up. But whatever.

Posted by: THE SHADOW OF THE BAT (2010) on September 3, 2008 at 22:02:03

LMAO HAHAHAHA thats right black knight no everyone wants everything darker lol

Posted by: Ivan on September 3, 2008 at 22:06:25

Man I had to post after reading this. Two face is one half of why the movie was so great... Absolute shame....

Posted by: Josh on September 3, 2008 at 22:07:18

This really sucks, I want Two-Face back at least one more time. And to have him work with another villain like the Riddler would just be badass. Nolan, rethink this, Two-Face is awesome, he deserves one more movie before this franchise is finished.

Posted by: Melies on September 3, 2008 at 22:08:28

Whatever...you guys are gonna pissed 'till you hear who the next villains are.

Then you'll be pissed when you hear who's playing them 'till you see a trailer.

Then you'll be pissed for other reasons...

Nolan proved us he knew what he was doing. Just shut up and wait 'till you see the third movie.

Unless Nolan dosen't want to do it and WB hires back Joel Schumacher...then you're allowed to critize.;)

Posted by: Melies on September 3, 2008 at 22:11:26

Oh and By the way...for those who compare Venom's death to Two-face's death : you couldn't be more wrong. It's in NO WAY the same thing. Raimi didn't know Venom, didn't wanted him to be in the movie and sucks at making movies. Nolan CHOSE two-face, knew the character and killed him as a CHOICE, so that the heroes could grow out of it.

Posted by: i believe in harvey dent...and batman on September 3, 2008 at 22:13:31

Nolan likes to keep a certain amount of secrecy when working on films. How do we know Eckhart is telling the truth?I believe in harvey dent ...and I want him back !Second, think about it.Why would you tell your characters' fate a month after the movies' release?Seems to me that we have ourselves a coverup. No, I am not a conspiracy nut,I just don't like to see a character with so much potential go to waste.

Posted by: i believe in harvey dent...and batman on September 3, 2008 at 22:14:47

Hence the name.

Posted by: awesome 1 on September 3, 2008 at 22:20:01

I think if they make another they should use hush.

the other characters don't transfer to film well.

killer croc...no way Nolan would use him. penguin is just stupid(to me) and the riddler i find to be a bad joker off shoot.

catwoman is dead to me.

I have spoken.

Posted by: Suspicious on September 3, 2008 at 22:21:30

Unless they are being really cryptic and literal in saying Harvey Dent is dead, but Two Face is actuality alive. They've used a simliar ploy like this in the comic books.

Posted by: gtrman on September 3, 2008 at 22:23:08

Please no Catwoman, I don't care who the hell plays her. I had my doubts about Joker until I saw Ledger's performance, but okay, cool, a villain was redone, enough. No Riddler, no Catwoman... Bring in Clayface for gods sake, like with today's CGI it couldn't be done? How about ANYONE from the wealth of bad guys in the YEARS of Detective Comics and Batman books.

Posted by: Beldor on September 3, 2008 at 22:23:41

If true, it's just stupid. First of all, Two-Face had so little screentime in The Dark Knight that he definitely deserves more in a sequel. Second, he never dies in the comics.

Once again, stupid.
