AMC's SciFi Scanner blog talked to J. Michael Straczynski about his script for the Silver Surfer spin-off that Fox was planning after Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

"Whether or not it ever gets made I don't know because they were kind of disappointed in how 'Fantastic Four 2' did," Straczynski said. "And given how this will be a subset of FF2 in terms of the marketing strategy, I think there is hesitation there about putting it forward. The script is pretty good, I like it, but whether or not it goes into production, I have no idea."

He added that the movie was to "pick up literally the next frame after the FF2 movie, where you find out why Silver Surfer was there and what happened to him. We would have seen Galactus, his home world, what happened and him trying to get back there, because now that he's betrayed Galactus, he's concerned his home world might be in jeopardy."

Asked to explain how we would see Galactus, he said, "In the script I come up with some ways to visualize him that are true to the original, but take it one step further using the current CGI technology that we have. So we would have seen him as a character on numerous occasions in the second movie, not inconsistent with the first distant shot of him in that that's just a way of concealing who and what he really is. Believe me, he would be not at all silly looking."

Fox destroyed the FF franchise. Those movies were horrible. It's they're own fault if it did not make them any money...

Oh i would like a Silver Surfer movie, it would be cool.

Or else, sell back the rights to FF and **** to Marvel, so they can include FF and Silver Surfer to the Avengers movie, maybe Galactus being the villain :)

why is this being related to FF2 damnit! This movie should be an inredibly different tone than the jokey campiness of the FF movies. If this ever gets made, it better at least be serious enough to watch without laughing, like FF. And i don't think this writer really understood the question, when he was asked what will galactus look like, it was meant, will we see him as more than a giant tornado, not, how good will the cgi be.

They could've been sooo much better, IMHO.

I personally think the Fantastic 4 are a little cheesy anyway. The "superhero family" thing just doesn't work today. The Incredibles worked because it was a comedy/parody. The only God thing about FF is Doctor Doom. It's not Fox's fault the movies sucked. They were never going to be good.

unbelievable, a real silver surfer movie without all the naffness of ff but the philosophy of the comics would have been the ultimate marvel movie in space, now we have to settle for a lame representation on celluloid of the most christ like figure in marvel mythology. Ff 2 sucked, there's an old Richard Gere film called breathless, his character is obsesed by the surfer, that film is more true to the mythology and true story of the surfer than that waste of 2hrs ff2, give the surfer his own film ! he's stan lees favorite character as well !

Even Spiderman was pg-13, how much can they do within a standard PG rating like they had for FF2 that would equate to cool anyhow? I'm certain if they bumped up the rating to PG-13 and exploited that to its fullest potential they'd have made significantly more money through a lot more fans. These people who try and dumb down superhero movies are trying to overstretch their demographics ultimately making all the fans unhappy.

Let's hope for a "do over" on the FF films... I think Marvel, taking more control over their properties would go for it.

And PLEASE better casting. I love Alba, but NOT in this role. The only decent casting was Torch. Story was a BAD choice.

I'd rather them not make a SS movie. Then, when Fox' license expires or whatever, Marvel can make it and it will be awesome.

I wish Marvel could have just made all of their own movies from the beginning. Hulk and Iron Man have proven that that is the way for them to go. Now they just have to get the rights to the other movies back!

FOX didn't ruin the FF movies. It was fricken Tim Story and the writers. Tim Story said he was a fan of the comics. MY A!! A true fan is loyal since their youth. This guy only started reading the Ultimate FF and dubbed himself a fan. Bullst!! What the hell does music and club dancing have to do with FF? Too much unuseful material in such a rich and bright universe which is my childhood loving for FF. These movies sucked. If they plan to do a 3rd, .......FIRE THE DIRECTOR AND WRITERS!!!!! Or. Just redo the whole series altogether.

I'm a huge Marvel Comics fan,and I am never let down by any of the Marvel films.I grew up watching the FF animated series,and I was so happy when they made the first FF movie.I'm a huge fan of the first FF movie,and I'm a fan of the 2nd FF movie.I guess a lot of people just expect too much out of films.Every frame of film in the FF movies are good.I can't wait to see the Silver Surfer movie.Either way,I'll always be a fan of the Marvel films.

Count me as one of the few who actually enjoyed both films. I liked the lightness of them. I thought the casting was great too (yes, I agree that Alba wasn't the best choice for Sue maybe, but I thought she was fine in the role. We can't blame her for being more hot than maternal. It would be hard to find someone to bring all that together.)

spin-offs are never a good idea (with the exception of wolverine) venom and silver surfer? banking on characters we've already seen? that's a big risk. truthfully, i don't want to see a supporting character in his own film. that's why he is called a supporting character. i just don't find it appealing seing a silver guy on a silver surfboard traveling through space and meeting galactus(wasn't he a cloud by the way?) nothing about FF or SS has ever attracted me. thank god i have never seen the FF movies.
