Fantastic 4 & Batman Begins Box Office Update
July 10, 2005
ComingSoon.net has posted the box office results for the weekend and Fantastic Four opened much stronger than was expected:
Surpassing all expectations, 20th Century Fox's adaptation of Marvel comic book Fantastic Four opened strong in first place with an estimated $56 million from 3,602 theaters in North America. The debut is the third-biggest of the year and fifth-biggest ever for the month of July, beating the first X-Men movie ($54.5 million) and coming in behind June's War of the Worlds ($64.9 million). Spider-Man 2 holds the record for a July opening with $88.2 million. Fantastic Four, directed by Tim Story and starring Michael Chiklis, Ioan Gruffudd, Chris Evans, Jessica Alba and Julian McMahon, averaged $15,546 per location.
Third place belonged to Warner Bros.' Batman Begins, which collected $10.2 million in its fourth weekend for a total of $172.1 million so far. The Christopher Nolan-directed film, starring Christian Bale as the Dark Knight, cost about $150 million to make.
