More Dragonball Photos Scanned
July 6, 2008
DBtheMovie.com has posted more scans of Dragonball photos that have appeared in an international magazine. Opening April 10, 2009, the James Wong-directed adaptation stars Justin Chatwin, James Marsters, Jamie Chung, Emmy Rossum, Eriko Tamura, Joon Park, Chow Yun-Fat, Texas Battle, Randall Duk Kim and Ernie Hudson.

I am a DB fan. My last post was born out of another post where people with negative comments were attacked. As for I being a moron... "I mean, the movie comes out in April 2010. That's 9 and 1/2 months away people."? Do I really need to ask? Is this some kind of new math? Do you have a time machine? Then you follow up your holier than thou plea for people to stop attacking one another with ..."(don't see how this gives self esteem to anyone but true losers)" and "I know that may be hard, but let's just try to grow up a little and quit being huge douche bags". Great way to lead by example. Furthermore, again, I am a fan of DB and DBZ and all things Goku but when I see these early shots that are scans of material released to someone by the studio without any real intention of putting something online that vindicates their choices for cast and production design, yes, I do get a little peeved because I fear this is going to be like other films that either strive too hard to look like the source material or ignores key elements in character and plot.
So...Space Monkey, I suppose you saw Wanted and loved it for the breakthrough in storytelling and plot? I just feel this is another in a long line of possible disappointments that is going to cause the Hollywood machine to start second guessing where to mine source material. Everytime a great cartoon or comic gets turned into a not so great feature, it takes two or three movies of the same genre to bounce the studios back into favoring said material.
I'm happy you're going to wait in line and see this movie but if the movie ends up being crap, remember who you called a douche bag and then realize that he had more forethought than you.

BTW, I see I hit a nerve with the whole, seeing it with your girlfriend (mom), line. Great way to subtly defend your choice of date.

Despite most comments get a negative reply, a punch in the face or both here I just figured I'd post my two-cents stil. I'm not gonna say "this movie is gonna fail" or "oh **** this is gonna be great" I'm gonna save my opinion for when the trailer and actually movie comes out, though I am doubtful that this movie will have alot of success. I'm not saying that , I'm only saying this based on how Hollywood/America's job at remaking movies or comics from other countries have been lately. Lately everymovie the US has tried to remake has sucked greatly making it look bleak for Dragon Ball's success.
Secondly the only other thing that somewhat turns me off about the movie is Chatwin not because of some etheticy thing but just because I do not believe he is all to great actor nor fit the part. I believe he was just attached to the movie so there was some random pretty boy in the mix, though as far as casting goes Chow Yun-Fat as Roshi is probably one of the smartest things they could do.

My hopes for this movie were dashed the moment I saw Goku's ridiculous hair. It works in the anime but here it just looks like he got caught in some hairspray tornado.

I hate to jump on the hate band wagon but i got a bad feeling about this movie and i'm usually right. i don't doubt that the film is going to be entertaining like hancock or forbidden kingdom but when you make a movie about something that epic and that touched 2 generations and has a fanbase that could make a human latter to the moon and back 10 times. you can't just change the story and make a whatever you want of it you have a duty to the fans to stay true to the manga they should have followed LOTR's footsteps making the movie epic 3hr films starting from the beginning as a boy what they are doing now feels like superman returns: just raping the story make lois a mom and superman a deadbeat dad oh yeah and lex a grandma raping WRRRROOOONNG! screaming lunatic
we'll just have to see the storm trough as always maybe our kids will get a decent DB movie.

oh and I agree with perceptor Man the hair is hideous they should have gone with the gohan hairstyl or if they wantd so much his hair like goku's they should have made a wig another indicator of bad choices. and the marketing sucks
usually movies are whores since they are made by corporate vampires they advertise and advertise so if they don't there must be a reason and what i think is that theyre waiting for the last minute to not alienate people to much so there going to go see it in mass since the movie is so mysterious so even if the movie bombed they will make a profit.

ok people stop commenting on how crappy this movie is every body please go to dbthemovie.com u can see all the movie scans there and maybe it will change ur mind a little, on top of that they just so happen to pick the crappiest pic out of all the pics
Posted by: ¿uoods on July 7, 2008 at 03:02:37
Yes, as an admitted fan. This thing looked like a trainwreck from day one.
Dragonball is such a weird choice for a movie, and all the uninspired changes they've been making to this thing just spelled disaster from the beginning.
Posted by: j0n3s on July 7, 2008 at 03:09:52
sry for the spelling im german! lol
but all you ppl say its gonna suck, i dont get it? you cant judge a movie only by seeing some scans or set pics. i know its gonna be made 70% in postproduction. but look at sincity its was made 100& in post production and it was very cool. i remember times when the first infos about hellboy came out, there was no trailer only pics! all the ppl said, WTF is this, this movie is gonna suck as hell. and it became a blockbuster. now in the db movie, dont forget that the orginal inventer of dragonball akira toriyama is producing this movie. and i thing he will not let James Wong make a bad movie like DOA or Mortal Kombat of it. and James Wong made some very cool movies to. like: the one, final destination and the very first episode of the xfiles witch was one of the best tv shows i ever seen!
even the cgi is made by some of the ppl who worked on the matrix, aliens and LOTR!!
so pls think first and then post... and give this movie a chance. as posted on dbthemovie.com thers a teaser coming soon. so lets wait and see! and then judge :D

It's OK to hate Speed Racer but a least Speed Racer is faithful to the anime. Here, and that's the thing that piss me off, it's not looking like "Dragon Ball" beyond some lame gimmicks and some names. It's like doing a random Fantasy/Kung-fu movie and the brand it with a fresh new sticker of Dragon Ball. Like those crappy Resident Evil movies.

lol i love the people offended by the fact that Goku is being played by an American. He's a ****ing alien. I don't think his nationality means anything.
movie looks kinda stupid but no more stupid than that show already was
Posted by: Emilien on July 7, 2008 at 03:45:16
One more thing, I keep reading here and there that people are stupid to hate the american cast. That every manga/anime doesn't necessarily need an asian cast because not every character is asian. True. BUT, the truth is that 90% or more of the characters in manga are japanese. Beside, Dragon Ball is about a chinese legend and even if Dragon Ball is set in a imaginary world, that said world is based on Japan (they read japanese, eat japanese food, make japanese private jokes that we can't understand...) and by the way "San Goku" is a "great" american name while i'm sure there are many japanese kids called Kevin, Brandon or Justin.
Dragon Ball should mostly have an asian cast ( yes, it should get use to it) with some non-asian for other/secondary/foes characters (I'm not agains't Marsters as Piccolo for exemple).
One last thing, if in manga there aren't mostly asian then in comics there aren't mostly american...Good we can ask Marvel to choose Jet Li, Tony Jaa or Jackie Chan for the upcoming Captain America or even Thor. And Eriko Sato should play Marvel Girl .
Posted by: Emilien on July 7, 2008 at 03:57:05
OH and of course San Goku is an alien so he can't be looking like a japanese. Yeah... and Superman just happen to look american. Goku is a japanese character for Japanese readers, like Spider-man for americans, Tintin for europeans

did any of you even read my post?? omg noobs. stop judging this movie only by some scans and production stills!

omg, you sound like a 12 year old kid that has nothing better to do. grow up..
Posted by: blackhat on July 7, 2008 at 04:41:52
this movie is gonna suck bigtime , hopefully the real goku wil come out of the tv and kick the directors butt for making a crappy movie,

I don't like it.

Those scans are butch, but the rest of the site is ok. I'm of a huge fan of the anime, and not very excited for this film. After reading a lot of it, they are screwing it up, and Americanizing the crap out of this anime. I'll end up seeing it tho, like everyone else, but I doubt I'll enjoy what they're doing.

ALot of people on here keep trying to knock down the Dragonball movie, I think its going to be great. Alot of people assume too much, I believe the movie is going to be great, alot of people will really have there thoughts when they first see the first trailer, which I'm hopeing it will be around October or November. So for all the true Dragonball fans, just stay positive and believe, because most of the actors in the film, I think they will make sure it becomes good!

@The ButnakedAvenger
I dont know about Goku since he is from another planet but most of the other characters dont look anything like japanese people. How many japanese people have blue hair?
I think people should know that this is a hollywood movie mostly intended for american people. It doesnt really matter if Goku is japanese or whatever. The kids will want to have something they can identify themselves with(It is a hollywood movie so in this case its mostly white people, Im sure but thats just the way it is :/).
@Tarran
Way to put it. Im sure everybody is gonna respect you after speaking that way to people. It makes you seem very mature and people take your opinions seriously Im sure.

For those who insist on saying "Remember Super Mario Bros.?"
Do YOU? Do you remember WHO wrote it? Who directed? No? Well, look it up, but here's a hint: It wasn't no Stephen Chow! You can't compare a movie with that many elements going against it to this! I haven't seen anything to suggest that they made a twist like making Mario's Mushrooms into Funghi, or turning a vibrant, colored overworld into Lizardtown, NY.
Honestly, man, the critiquing act of saying something "sucks" or "will suck" is far overused here. Overly simplist review/preview?
People just like to blast that like it's nobodies buissness, and on account of a picture or too.
Now, in comes the devil of comics/cartoons to film: Make it too close to the original source and it looks stupid(I.E. Goku's Hair). People, fans espescially, will say your movie looks stupid and it "sucks". Try to ground such elements, and then people will complain it's not faithfull and "sucks"(i.e. Bulma's hair). Come, on, man! It's an unwinnable battle!
I'm personally no the biggest DB fan, but I do look forward to this movie. Seems like the kind of fantasy/martial arts film that is right up my street.
Posted by: garange on July 7, 2008 at 10:57:01
I've said it before and i'll say it again. As a mega DBZ fan I realize this movie is not based on DBZ but looks to be more of a bridge between DB and DBZ. I am very happy with the fact that FOX has enough faith in the franchise to bankroll what would seem to some as an unpopular story-arc. Instead of just throwing a bunch of muscle-bound freaks on the screen to play Super-Saiyans, they seem more concerned with telling a good story.
Count me in on this one!
